Lostling May 5
When my tears dry
And my sobs cease
Do not mistake it for me calming down.
I've simply realised that you cannot hear my screams
And will say everything but the words I need to hear

When my tears stop
And my sobs fall silent
Do not think I'm doing better.
It just means I've changed the locks
And will continue to break where your gaze won't wander

When my tears shatter
And my sobs lose breath
You will hear everything in that silence
For the ending will be laid out before you
In a casket that will echo my story
Just having a bad day. I'll be fine.

You and I, if only we could fly,
On sparrow wings, just you and I.
The sun would carry us through golden air,
And spin us silk from light and prayer.

To lands where no one’s ever gone,
Beyond the echo, past the dawn.
Behind the last voice of the last goodbye,
No one behind us, only sky.

You and I, if only we could fly,
Be stolen quietly, passing by
Like a drifting leaf on a breeze so wide,
Together we float, side by side.

A strand of sky in a world so blue,
The wind would rock us, me and you.
No place to land, no need to steer
Just us as one, and nowhere near.

You and I, if only we could fly,
On sparrow wings, no need to try.
The world dissolves, becomes the air
And we’re not here, and we don’t care.
No wings were harmed in this daydream. Only a heart light as a feather, heavy with want wondering what flight might feel like when it’s shared.

Can you hear it loud and clear?
Come closer, over here
It's screaming from within my deep hearts core
Can you hear my silent roar?

We danced in fire, we spoke in stars,
Our whispers rode on midnight cars.
Your laugh would bloom where silence grew,
And every dream began with you.

But now your words fall cold and thin,
Like echoes lost in rusted tin.
Your hand once burned to meet with mine
Now slips away, devoid of sign.

We used to kiss like time stood still,
Now even touch feels forced, uphill.
We shared a world, a sacred art
But this is a far cry from the start.

No storms, no fights, just quiet air,
And all the passion stripped to bare.
We smile on cue, we play the part
Yet love has slipped out from the heart.

So here we are, not near, not far
Two strangers orbiting one star.
And though you’re here, I fall apart
This love’s a far cry from the start.
This poem captures the quiet unraveling of a relationship, the slow drift from intimacy to emotional distance. It reflects how love can fade not through chaos, but through silence, routine, and absence of true connection

Cool aqua marine
Stillness sinking into blue
I wait for the sun

My fears sink down deep
The pool offers little warmth
I wait in the sun

Questions float in time
Waters answer in silence
I wait with the sun
After a painting of the same name, by Harold Knight, 1916. Now hanging at the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle.
Unwritten lines upon a pristine page
waiting for a hand to bid them speak,
muted wings of tawny hunting owls
swift soft and to feed a midnight beak,
a peal of screaming bells
which have no tongues to sing
is this silence, waiting to be filled
or is a nothing held within these things

There’s always one
unfinished sentence
in every goodbye.

A truth that catches
in the back of the throat
and never makes it out alive.

You smiled.
You nodded.
You let the moment pass.

But something in your eyes
lingered
like a name you meant to say
but swallowed.

And I’ve been wondering since:
Was it fear
that kept you quiet
or was I never meant
to know?

What is the thing you almost said, but never could?
We all have that one moment we replay, the words we didn’t say. This poem asks you to revisit yours... not for regret, but for release.

In the hush between heartbeats,
I hear the echo of your laughter
a memory not yet made.

You, a whisper in the wind,
me, chasing shadows of a smile.

If you feel this too,
leave a word behind
let’s write our story together.
Sometimes the people we miss the most are the ones we’ve never met, just imagined in perfect moments, half-dreamed, half-hoped. If this stirred something in you, say so. Maybe you’re the echo I was waiting for.
