What splendour exceeds that of the ocean?
Could its grace by any at all be denied?
Far from city life fraught with commotion
the sea softly lulls with each passing tide

For where waves are boundless, with teal painted crests
naught but seabirds will break my reverie
On a draughty ship, catching winds from the west,
by this time tomorrow ‘tis there that I’ll be
The albatross once filled the skies
Cormorants watched silent, from the shore
These are echoes of times long ago
There's nothing here for them any more

The coastline littered with sunken ships
Villages full of ghosts
Empty buildings and empty lives
Where just the sea gulls act as hosts

Oceans away lads, Oceans away
Out past the breakers and out to the sea
Oceans away lads, Oceans away
Out on the Ocean, where my soul is set free

The cod stocks have dwindled
There was no need to stay
There's no catch of the day, son
From here to Gaspe'

The canneries shuttered
The landscape has changed
I may be a sailor
But, my life's rearranged

Oceans away lads, Oceans away
Out past the breakers and out to the sea
Oceans away lads, Oceans away
Out on the Ocean, where my soul is set free

The Grand Banks are empty
Our boats are in hock
There's nothing that grows here
Except depression and rock

While others moved onward
I'll stay 'till I'm dead
Now, I feed off the tourists
I work the casinos instead

Oceans away lads, Oceans away
Out past the breakers and out to the sea
Oceans away lads, Oceans away
Out on the Ocean, where my soul is set free

The salt air still calls me
The wind in my sails
The sound of the rigging
Heading off to Kinsale

The coastline is empty
Where Ghost towns now stand
It used to be vibrant
But now just sea grass and sand

Oceans Away Lads, Oceans Away
On out past the breakers, and out to the see
Oceans away lads, Oceans Away
I still am a sailor, and I always will be

TO HELL AND BACK FOR CAPTAIN JACK
her sails are set all hands on deck she's off by early light
her hull it dances on the waves like lovers in the night
she's on her way to nowhere it's a place she's been before
no latitude or longitude no charts to show the course
her cargo is a mystery her destination is unknown
she's sailed by men who long ago in some way lost their souls
her wooden hull will creek and bend till her sails they find a breeze
with grit and spit she rides the sea with a crew of broken dreams

Cause- to hell and back for Captain Jack be it devil or the deep
no man or sea shall take their ship they'll fight and die to keep
For captain jack old captain jack and the  schooner Albatross -
they'll brave the storms of unknown worlds no matter what the cost
Cause- to hell and back for Captain Jack be it devil or the deep
no man or sea shall take their ship they'll fight and die to keep

they're beggars thieves and highwaymen no place to call their own
they wear barnacles for britches with skin  leathered to the bone
summer heat or winter cold still they sing their sailors songs
as they climb the ropes take down the sails through the worst of storms
they tell their tales on bar room stools of maps and chests of gold
or sing their songs and drink their *** until they pass out cold
some nights they'll pay an ugly ***** so they won't sleep alone
but better men be hard to find who call this ship their home

Cause- to hell and back for Captain Jack be it devil or the deep
no man or sea shall take their ship they'll fight and die to keep
For captain jack old captain jack and the  schooner albatross -
they'll brave the storms of unknown worlds no matter what the cost
Cause- to hell and back for Captain Jack be it devil or the deep
no man or sea shall take their ship they'll fight and die to keep

As a boat takes to water,
I have taken to you.
I yearn to hold you up
and carry you towards
wild adventures.
Yet I feel as though
you are the sea
and I am just me.
I am blissfully lost
in your blue and rolling waves,
content to be shipwrecked
by you.
You have the power
to effortlessly crush me
in an instant,
but I would gladly sink
into your depths.
After feeling your hands,
I could never dream of
returning to land.
For now I delight
in all of the sights
of you,
dazzling and vast.
Tentatively, I have cast
my feelings to your waters,
waiting for a bite.
A sailor I must be,
content to wait for
the rest of my life.

We were like two ships
Passing in the night,
Fading with the
Waning light

Two glowing sparks
Extinguished
Before they could
Ignite

Two lines,
Perpendicular,
That met and then
Departed

The knowing
Of beginning's end
Before it had yet
Started.
Oh, the things that might have been.

Cars and vans,
Planes and ships,
They'd take you
Anywhere you want,
And then you'll leave
Or they will,
You'll realize
You don't mind
The amazing views,
All you want
Is their comfort,
The bumps, the plains,
The moving scene, the joy,
The journey.

The serenity, the peace,
the love of the water
You would never know how many ships
she so selfishly kept with her
held under her surface
to stay as long as their iron beings would allow
People mourned their losses of her historic companions
But they are not at all lost
They are found in her serenity, in her peace,

in her love

Sulim said, ‘’the moon rises on the sky like a child.’’
''The jeweler is going to come tomorrow to
Bring me jewels for those wanting their life to be styled.
Although I can't sell them, I want all her dreams come true, ''

Frederick said. She replied, ''I can't wait to choose them.''
''They are expensive, and it's hard to find customers.''
Sam said, ’’ increase the price when two eyes light on a gem.''
''I have to deal with the coast-men, who are expert smugglers.''

'' 'Twas another world, when jewelry meant a business.
I had to wear a lapel clip to be fully dressed.''
Sam said, ''to the jewelry theft, I'm an eye witness.''
''To protect this ship from pirates, I'll do my best.''

He kissed her, '' you're the most important jewel for me.''
She touched her womb, ''this fetus is the most important.''
''And I hope he will become what I want him to be.
I know he feels, even his feeling is quite dormant.’’

(After a few seconds of thinking, Frederick continued to talk with her.)

''Are you sure it's a boy? '' ''I am absolutely sure.
Moreover, he will be like his dad.'' The man held her
Into his arms, '' I'm strong enough this fate to endure.
Is he as beautiful as me? '' He played with her hair.

Dreamy and meditative, Geraldine told him,
''He's already a sailor in my womb.'' He laughed.
''Son, I want you to hit her a little in a gym.''
She exclaimed, ''he moved.'' ''He’s maestro at this craft.''

(Early in the morning, Frederick and Geraldine woke up. They used to sleep in the same bed, although she was pregnant.
She had to prepare the breakfast for the sailors, and he had to go to the nautical bridge to take back the control of the ship.)

''You'll stay at Lisbon for a few years because the child
Must grow up enough to be taken with us on the ship.''
''I do not let you roaming through the freedom and the wild.''
''I don't go, I stay with you, '' he whispered lip to lip.

''Are you afraid of losing me? He asked tenderly.
''I'm afraid that something bad is going to happen.''
''With five belly dancers around fashion'd slenderly? ''
''Imagine this! You're going to be a real captain! ''

He laughed. She gave him a pat on the back with her cushion.
''Do you see those five lateen sails? They dance in the storm.''
He wanted to make love with her, but she kept on pushing.
He immobilized her screaming ''Love me to keep me warm! ''

Ismail knocked on the door and told Frederick that the jeweler was on the ship.

Poem by Marieta Maglas
The clouds hid the red sky that day
Amid the wind and rain
No red sky meant no sailors warning
The waves broke high and hard
They passed the breakers and the kegs
They missed the red sky morning

The ships out on the water
From the shore to the Grand Banks
Were helpless in the coming storm
No choice to turn and run
The best bet was stay put
There was no port to get warm

The skies were filled with nothingness
the clouds like a sharks eye
Shades of black were all they saw
The icy waves of winter
Broke the calm of the early morn
For red sky in the morning is an unwritten sailors law

The Captain closed the bar down
On the Digby ferry crossing
The doors were being opened by each wave
They couldn't see the white caps
Only sky and see was all
And the souls he had to save

There were fifteen boats in transit
When the storm came bearing down
Most were halfway home or so
Now they all were stranded
In the journey between heaven and hell
Which direction they were headed only God would know

Turn sideways and you'd flip it
Just sit still and you were dead
You had to ride the water hellish ride
Hatches all were battened
Windows sealed and doors shut tight
Sailors tried to stay inside

Water spouts were forming
Off the stern and then the port
Navigate the safest spot and keep low
The door to Davy Jones' locker
Was opened and ready to accept
Any boat who made the choice to venture down below

On shore the coast guard were all scrambled
Planes were sent out just in case
More to recover than to save
Families awaited word by radio
The lines from all the ships were down
Some lost to a watery grave

Each year the ocean opens up
Mother Nature takes some back
It's just the circle of life at sea
Prayers are said at the Mariners Hall
Bells are rung for the dead
The sailors soul belongs to the water and it never can be free

Are you one that lives on water?
You know one day your luck will end
You knew this fact from the start
Sailors know the sea's a minefield
It's a war with God each day
You have to fight with all your heart

we live in a world of fantasy
we see what we want
we want what we see
sheltered away from reality

spurred upon the idea of escaping
its a narrow escape
and you can’t evade it perpetually
but we try
and try as we might
some run
some drink
some love

but it fades in time
cleverly disguised
as adrenaline,
alcohol
or roses
nonetheless
all in all

you are born
you are going to die
the rest is wishful thinking
i’m not going to lie

mouth agape
don’t be afraid
ships are bound to sink someday
so might as well sail it to your hearts dismay
