My vision
seeks you
like an
escaping sun ray
through a grey
cloudy sky
clear
and bright

Since when you become
A voice inside my head
Half of me that's still missing
My misplaced puzzle piece
Fuel of desperation and need
A last ray of dying hope
Missing the magnificent.

Images in my mind so unreal
Images scattered like a puzzle
A puzzle that is impossible to fix
Yet in my hands,And I'm lost
What a shattered frame
All I see is a shattered frame

I'm questioning myself,more questions
I'm seeking response from within but none
Till a ray of light began to shine
Pointing somewhere like a path to follow
It wasn't just a ray,it was hope

My mind is no more on the shattered frame
Just then I realised,I am not the fixer
How could I possibly be the fixer
There is one superior to all
Knowledgeable of all,and more than able
One Able, who was and is and is to come

Now the ray of light  points in a path
The end of which I Can not see
Thats how far I'm meant to go
Thats how limitless I am
My abilities, the strength that lies within
And the frame in my hands is making sense
The picture is forming
Its a new image,It is hope

I found a little ray of sunlight
that was here the entire time.

It was shining right in front of me
and now I can call it mine.

It makes me wonder
how I hadn't noticed it before.

Maybe it was hiding--
it probably was.

But guess what?
I found it.
I found her.
It took a while, but now
we have all the time
in the entire ******* world.

A little ray of light.
My little ray of sunshine.

There is a strangeness in fog
that is palpable
and perhaps it is the strangeness in me
which responds

It is no accident I know
that I was raised
where fog is legend
and so remains
a cloying fact of life
for coastal Sunny California
is coldly blanketed each morning
six months of every year
in chilly dampness

What once was familiar
now changed
hidden within soft billows
of clouds brought to earth
the monotonous drip
from the leaves of the trees
the eaves of the roof
the rocks on the hillsides . . .
stars and planets obscured
only the mysterious moon
peeks through the diaphanous veil
lighting her shroud from above

now moving
now shifting
a glimpse of . . . something
caught
only to disappear once more
deep within the flowing haze

Yet where others find in fog
a thing to fear
I find in it a pleasure
seldom found elsewhere
for me familiar comfort
in the heavy grey mist
enveloping me
as a blanket of spirit
or ancestors

And perhaps it is this
the others fear
for the spirits of fog
can be cunning and cruel
hiding dangers
from those unwary
or disrespectful

But I miss the fog
laying low upon the cliffs
turning ordinary landscape
into otherworldly and strange

I long for the lonely cries
of the foghorn at sea
and should the sea monster come
I pray it finds
the love it seeks

This is one of my favorites, written about growing up in my native Southern California, with a nod to Ray Bradbury's short story "The Foghorn" (aka "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms") at the end.

The first time I read this poem in public, shortly after it was written, the conversation in the Oxygen Bar (Dunedin, Florida) stilled to the point that, by the end of the poem, there was silence but for my voice.  Having only begun reading my poems in public a couple of years before, that was an awesome experience, and having my boyfriend (now husband) there to witness it was wonderful.  This was a favorite of my mother's, who introduced me to the Bradbury story, as it was her favorite short story.

This is the first time it appears in print.

in each second that pass
loneliness chills my every bone
the bright silver moon did smile once
but only one sleek pale ray
it stole through my window
and almost filled my room...
what else should I say?
...I'm still lonely...
You can't lie like you used to
Your eyes do give you away
So your going out for something
On this bright and beautiful day
But I have known for a long time
Another heart has stolen you away
It grieves me so but what can I say or do
When you're making me feel so blue
And it hurts to see you lie to me
When once we were so close
So go . . . go on. . . now be on your way
Your heart sheds not a ray for me
The Sun burns the face of the moon
And leaves wasted traces of love
I'll be on the darkest side in grief
Where I wish the stars above

let me wish upon a star,
not to light up the entire universe,
just to cause a shimmer,
in someones pitch black life,
just to add a glow,
in a few tiny dreamy eyes,
just to give some warmth,
to any cold hapless soul,
just to cast a ray of hope,
to the seafaring men out there,
just to lighten an unexplored path,
to those in search of adventure,
just to reflect the hidden evils,
to those repenting souls,
just to brighten a few more lives,
before melting away to nothingness.......
amen.....

You may just be a ray of light,
But you are sunshine to me indeed.
I was locked in the dark before,
But your light has set me free.
