Ins: This modern love by Will Darbyshire
Donielle Oct 2017
Our mouths are clogged with lazy abbreviations and shortened versions of intelligence.

Hands bound with all the cords needed to charge and sync and transfer data to our brains, empty of original thought.

Our storage is at max capacity with the lies we're fed and the senseless information we're expected to regurgitate to earn our badge of Respected Member of Society.

But you have an opportunity to do things with purpose. Don't jam your pockets with phone numbers and calendars and one hundred versions of the same picture.

If your pockets are heavy, may they be weighted with the rocks you find while you walk beside the river that calms you.

And if your eyes grow tired, may it be from staring into the distance at the mountains you were born to climb.

Dear Future Love of my life--

I will not wait around like I did with all my lovers before.
I will not be the girl who you talk to randomly for two days then stop.
I will not let you guide my heart in the wrong directions again and again just because I am caring and kind.

I will either be your everything or I will be your nothing.
It's simple.

Love always,
Your Future Lover

There has to be a better way
Working hard, making bets just to get some extra pay
Getting wrong when bosses' targets aren't being met
Forced to work outside through cold, the dark, the damp and wet

Back-breaking work and extra overtime
Just to keep stable and above the bread line
The pain of work, the dull, the strife
Just sacrifice your social life

To pay off a house you've remortgaged twice
You work from dawn, 'till noon and night
To wake for work feeling down and ******
Focus on the better things, live for things that make you happy
first poem ever written, apologies for structure.

Life is an illusion
Breath is naught but a game
Stealing thoughts to the manipulated mind
Exploring misery through coins
Taping madness so it runs in circles
Faking importance through copy and paste
Loathe for the humanity of pity taste
Losing faith and building fences
Picking choices from blurring nonsense

[Chorus:]
High above likes monarchy
Saving thoughts for industry
Society challenged euthanasia
Piece by piece owned by Wikipedia
Reality gave birth to stupidity
Education equals lunacy

Halo for heaven
They smiled down on you
Like the pieces of glas you're stepping on
Remember those you never heard
Laugh out your common phrase
Reputation of the guilty
Never destroy those unfilthy
Lunatic minds rules the world
Ignorance keeps the fools curled

[Chorus:]
High above likes monarchy
Saving thoughts for industry
Society challenged euthanasia
Piece by piece owned by Wikipedia
Reality gave birth to stupidity
Education equals lunacy

Justice fed by cannibals
News delivered from hungry animals
Cracking up the disobedience
Praying their lust for bigger audience
Coughing, bleeding, losing touch
Asylum is open for those prejudged

[Chorus:]
High above likes monarchy
Saving thoughts for industry
Society challenged euthanasia

Reality gave birth to stupidity
Education equals lunacy

She was drown to superstars
Shiny cars
Fast lives Slow hearts, materialistic worshippers
Loud mouths, voice yelling hand clappers
Just to get a point a across

Attitude filled reality stars
She idolized, visualized and internalized
Their lifestyles

Just to end up losing her own identity

Consumed by what she idolized she forgot to open her eyes

Blinded by perception, while dying to gain acception

A sparkle from afar
over the black ocean line,
and grows bigger
at every wet step.
Evenings she would rip
into the water
and fight the waves
until the waves gave up
and I could figure her out now,
more distinct at every second.
She spoke to me with a composed tone
which would hide something else. There is always
another side to her voice, almost two lines
speaking the same verse. The silky stretch
of water behind mirrored perfectly our shadow.

This world is so broke
The earth wrapped in smoke,
So I rapped just to cope
Throw glow to a soul,
Gave birth to adapt to the rap then I show,
Embrace my worth to grow l, then I sew,
Puffing this smoke blow away the fake hope,
Chasing my dreams til my dreams come home,
Spitting venom every sentence from a tongue of deception,
I question their method of self protection,
Adding dimension to this world I'm cutting tension,
Need a new invention for a cure to this infection,
I'm punching through-a-void, empty noise destroys,
I'm clutching to annoy so sing a-pray-a-boys,
people roun' me acting koi, like false raid on Troy,
actuality boy, shine the pain hide the joy,
so when I look right in the mirror I know I see me,
again, I took flight trial and error my guarantee,
I live daydreams writing schemes to be alone,
wearing baggy jeans no clean t, no phone,
a drone, figurines no family tree tired to roam,
singular road, my brains so fuzzy I'm bout to implode,
I'm the youngen in the runnin out gunnin,
I'm the one that's becoming too cunning,
I see your bluffing but your mind is numbing,
fallen in the system, it's your homecoming,
I didn't edit the lines, grammar doesn't count in rap ;). I decided to preach it through music. This is a verse I'm rapping on a collaboration with 2 American friends. The audio link will be up soon :). Hope you like my rhyme schemes ;)
