my darling has
his keys in the car
and a hand on
my hip making
sure i don't slip.
cigarette in his
lips with the radio
down low as he
drives slow.
he asks me
where do i want
to go?
the streetlights
Illuminate his skin
and i squeeze his
hand tight as we
search out some
thing marvellous
and magical from
amongst a cold
winter night.
you have a
delightful diesel
infused smile.
where have you
been honey?
it's been awhile.

I remember the long drives
along the night skies.

We would sing aloud
surfing through the clouds.

As the night started to fade and
the lilac tones appeared.
We were not afraid.

We rolled down our windows,
pretended our hands were heroes.

High off the ecstasy of each other's company,
we became bubbly.

Finally allowed to be,
together by the sea.

as i drove by on the interstate
i looked outside my window
and i saw flashes of light produced by fireflies
but i could only see blinks of it for the speed wouldn't allow me to take it in
and it was then that i realied
i don't want to live life on full speed
i want to live life to where i have enough time to sit and take in everything
to not feel as though i'm running out of space to stand on the treadmill
where i have to keep running to live comfortably
i want to sit and admire the fireflies
i want to be able to spend hours reading and talking
i want to live life at my own pace
and not at one set up for me

Take a second to jot down a few words directly into the post box.
Be thankful for the moment you got away today and drove with the windows down to pick up pizza for dinner.
You didn't want to step away from your computer,
but your parents told you to, so you ran the errand.
Driving...
yeah...
hm...
What a nice relief.
Remember the music that played and how the wind brushing your arm reminded you of that liberating feeling when you would ride motorcycles in Estero, and it felt like nothing mattered...
You just drove and hummed whatever song made you feel the happiest.
yeah...

Okay.

Your procrastination is over, so seclude yourself out on the lanai;
brace for the long night ahead.
Maybe your friends will wish you a good night and it'll motivate you for the long haul.
It hasn't been too long since you last stayed up until 2... 3... maybe 4am, right?
Put on that playlist. (It will help.)
Let Son Lux provide that numbing white noise,
loud enough to keep you energized, quiet enough to let you type.
Maybe you'll stay out until you get it done.
Maybe you'll just get it over with tonight.
Maybe you'll want to stay out, to see the sunrise.
Maybe,
but for now, finish up your word doodles,
your little mindless rants,
so you can apply your mind to the "important things".
You'll make the best of it. (I know you will.)
Maybe you'll have fun with it.
Maybe you'll be proud of it.
Maybe you'll forget everything you've learned,
Maybe,
but for now, this is your time to write,
your time to prove yourself,
so you can tell the rest of the world,

"I did it."

What motivates you?

the shadows the sun cast when it rises,
way beyond down
there I am

stuck as a soul can be on a plane not meant for the unsure,
I grab onto other souls who know what to do with their existence,
and ask, is this for me too?

no, no
it doesn't feel right
breathing here doesn't feel right
every breath feels forced, just to survive, because i need to.
but they breathe because they've found it

the purpose of their souls,

I think mine was lost.

I'd like to stretch moments out.
In the way you stretch a sore back when dawn breaks,
to treasure just a few seconds more before your alarm wakes.
This is why I take a longer route when driving home; once the gas stops running through the engine I know it'll be over.

Don't you just love late night drives?
There's such a beauty about it
It's so much different than day time
It's when I can't remember my problems
Or anxiety
Or stress
Because instead of drowning in them
Like I usually do
I drown them out
With music.
And the carelessness
And freedom
Which only comes
With the night.
And the city lights
They bring me solace
Small tiny specks of brightness,
Of hope
That everything will be alright.
