When love makes angels
Just for me,
They were made to fall from heaven,
As you had pulled me down to hell,
To be bored for all time
With all things sacred.

And my loneliness howls to your ears
Too loud to hear,
And every breath I take
Is a prayer for you to come back.
Noah Ducane Aug 2015
Quick as lightning
Cloaked in sun
Your words went away
Spent on every day
And I wasn't even listening

Burned in a bruised breath
The sting of every sound
From your lips
A million years grimaced
And caved in

For every drop of rain
In your blood
My very heart boils
With the memory of your every feature
Like musical notes
That took a future with you far away

Lions are majestic
Or, I was told so
Once they were majestic
Rampant beasts in far-flung savannas
Mythic lords of the dark continent

I didn't hear the lion roar, not even once
Everyone was disappointed
Even our pet cat wasn't so lazy

What a joke the lion is!
Sleepy from doing nothing
Growing fat behind it's bars

A million fingers pointing at it
Waiting for the lion's pride
They all laugh, and the lion waits for dinner

In sadness sunk
Raged, regret -
Firing bullets at the open air,
Spitting fire into the freezing wind,
Harpooned by every passing person,
And forced faceless fear into a trembling voice
A timid thing, half-wilted down.

To meet one given hand
Proud with patience,
Crowned by this glowing act
Of harmless help,
Though I were kissed by that kindness
Fast though it fled,
Fast as flame I hold it in,
Loved by a gesture
Pitied without a please.

Rewarded by grinning,
What gold to give
That is, gold in memory,
That heart, gilt in gladness,
That smiled selfless
On one so sunk in sadness,
Loved by a gesture
Of harmless help.
This is about a stranger's kindness.

A photo in a book once told

That things we held in youth grow old,

That in numbers we keep our time to count,

In the end a small amount.

One year I remember well in heart,

Ten years that keep us far apart,

In memory lighter than lightest air,

Long departed from thought and care.

A glass broken that is half-full,

Empty now that time will cull,

From wounds unhealed in setting sun,

That rise again and will be done.

Last of our things to say,

To think we had more yesterday,

And be still unsettled in our faith yet strong,

That time so short could seem so long.

At last, when those days are gone

Like the silence after a pleasant song,

Like pictures moving on a screen,

Things once felt and thought and seen,

Looking back you'll wonder, wonder if it was true

That he after all was really you.

A kiss, leave
A kiss lingers while it leaves
Leave and go, touch too much
And see,
I missed.

A flight of love is like the sea
Now you see,
To blow and go,
You were leaving while
We kissed.

All my love
Never added up
To more than zero,
And I have zero rewards to show for it.

All my love
Never gave me
A thing
But songs to sing
All by myself.

And all my troubles
Remind me of love
That sting so sweetly
And grow numb with time.
Noah Ducane Dec 2016
Allow me now to say,
That though the dark is deep
And blinds the light of day,
It's comfort crawls alone in sleep.

Hands that played now are stayed, cold;
Dark is the night, death is darker still.
But age does not make us old,
Youth in you time cannot ****.

And fallen, fallen, all the past.
You stand at the door, turn your head, and part -
Gone, now forever at last,
And stay the beating of that heart.

You who smiled gave a moment pause;
The mirror broken tells of a false face,
For every small and gracious cause
Bears the burden of this race.

Allow what will to be your life's brief end,
That betrays the memory yet lingering on -
From little faith sweet lies descend,
My friend, my family forever gone.
Another death

Roughed up a bit

Carrying memories to the new year

Holding these inside

Waiting for nothing

But passing through

Every hour

Smooth sometimes

Anguished others

Hoping to keep myself around

Waving at the world as it passes through a stream

Though it ages me

May the time come when my bottle breaks

And I release my soul unto a golden shore
Noah Ducane Jun 2015
When dark is the cloud my head still in the Savannah sleeps

My heart like a native drum beats to the rhythm of the hours

The great hours flow like one dark river

My eyes in the heavens tell me secrets of the past

My ancient past and ancient feelings

A sick pale like moonlight on the cold leaves

My mind escapes like a wild animal into the grass

My mind with it's own heart racing

It's own drum beating quick to the quick animal breaths

In panic through the tombstone streets lit with souls

Strange dark of ancient days

The pounding drum in my every step

Lighter than the midnight air

And I took to the sky and flew away

Dancing madly through my dreams

Wicked dreams that go unpunished

Vile dreams slipped away into the bottomless chasm of night

My heart sank like a stone into that dark

And I was found panting

Out of breath

Marooned on dawn's naked shores
Noah Ducane Dec 2015
And again, but
The light hitting your face
And water in your eyes
And someone swearing
At you
And you think evil

The dishes in the sink are *****
And it reminds you of your head

And again she's crying
"save me"
And you want to help
But you're not there
To tell her save you

Black saints ropes
And heavy chains
Lost in the sea...

And the dark of dismay knock no more.
For the wider world's haunting,
Higher than the sky
My love in kingdoms hang.

For the sounds of thought call
out screaming
Not to be heard by wiser ears.
The fortune of our wrists will write our freedoms on the dividing wall.

And the dark of dismay knock no more.
For stronger tides have pulled back evil
That in our own dreams was imagined
And ought not be given shape.

For the worker, deadly at his plow
Bows to no one
And the money-god will not laugh.

And the dark of dismay knock no more.
When all is at the driver's wheel,
All in peace be sought out wanting
Nothing but his love's true deed.
His love's funeral,
His book of sins
And all is sought in the lover's knot;
A field of bones played by the flute.

For the signal of our strength is an untrimmed smile
Higher than the stars,
My love in legacy hang.

For the great war
From within and without
Our holy seed shone through
To bide time until chaos swam,
Free as the shade and the lights of our eyes;
Together look on into the end of all,
And the dark of dismay knock no more.

In Babylon she cries in red
In Babylon her stains of blood
And wine falls from fountains for us
In Babylon the streets are red

And Babylon she screams for more
Outside every shelter's door
And Babylon lifts her thighs
To the hot air and incense skies

Juvenile faces mixed in mud
How sweet our sorrows go
And Babylon today has wept
Tomorrow is on her feet again

And mark well, the faces in the street
The priest in passersby
And be gracious to everyone you meet
And we will love before we die
Noah Ducane Oct 2015
For you, my friend, I have a gift:
The endless, and the infinite-
and all that can come of them.

And if you'd like to like it, do so.
And if you don't, don't.
But it's all the same.

Life is one holy river, with ebbs and flows.
It comes and goes, and knows no time.

For you, my friend, there is no end.
But beginning will begin to see;
the island of days drifting into a sea of confusion.
Noah Ducane Apr 2015
They sneak away in plain sight
And leave with an empty stomach
Only wanting more

Best not to offer answers
When you must know
How many angels may dance on the head of a pin
There are no angels
But the answer is seven

Best not to offer answers
When death is made of dust
And no soul like a phoenix
Rises from those ashes

Best not to offer answers
But enjoy your time alive
That seemed but a moment
When you have moments left to breathe
Noah Ducane Sep 2015
Blood in my eyes
Tells me I'm wise
For letting go

But I was never there
To care
From the beginning

All my hope for love
And evil, too
Trusted to you
And you let go

My bones are broke
My wallet, too
There's a scar inside
And there's no cut deeper

Thank you for ignoring me
Thank you for insulting me
Thank you for making me want you
Thank you for making me hate me
Thank you for making me feel bad
Thank you for making me feel great
Thank you for giving me love
Thank you for giving me ***
Thank you for making me depressed
Thank you for making me desperate
Thank you for making me lonely all my life
Thank you for your kisses
Thank you for your forgiveness
Thank you for your evil
Thank you for selfishness
Thank you for your selflessness
Thank you for letting me love you

I wanna be your doll                                                                                                                                               You're alone                                                                                                                                                             We can be alone together

dead as the space between time I'm singing for my true love's kisses

they fill the air and sky

and only when I'm sleeping they come back

but they keep me angry

and I hear  no good sounds

but the trumpet calling out for my head

my body hung in a dead field

shunned even by the sinking sun

and thin black crows

I can't get back awake

I am insipid and my bones rust in the frigid wind

I yawn and midnight smiles for me

I feel the pressure of countless aeons

my death eclipsed by countless aeons

the weight of endless years

after my love slipped from my dying hands

Now I cry for no one

but howl back at myself

enraged at myself

for my feelings

left behind

a trail of blood

writing on the wall

that will not see the light of day

and scythes stuck in my whimpering chest

The hands turn
Not for time
But for your birth
Your laugh that once
Our first kiss
Our last kiss
My every morning
The hands of the clock turn
In my mind
I know they are mine to turn
With hands of my own

Not for time do they turn
But for her baby
But for your birthday
But for your kindness
But for your reasons
But for you

Cat
My cat had nine lives,
But spent every one with me.

Those eyes see nothing
But what's just in front of them.

He had this kindness you couldn't escape-
Not like human kindness,
Because there were no thoughts behind it.

Cats don't feel pain
But the pain of death.

Confess the words that are
trapped behind a stubborn mind
and every clause you conceal
because with every tear of light
and sailor in the night
ten million heavy hearts are breaking.

AND DON'T FORGET YOU AREN'T ALONE

think of all the computers
you sat and ate dinner not long ago
thinking you'd be asleep soon
but aha, you've got insomnia *******.

cheer up
for Christ sakes man
it's only a film
and you're at the center
maybe you'll look up some day
at distant stars and think
WOW we're just like that !

Deep in the earth my love forgot
Buried where flowers do not grow
Friends or passerby knowing not
The corpse of love does not show

Where weeds cover and rain beset
Whiter than clouds painted in the moon
All life and eternity to regret
The loss of young love gone too soon

This dead not buried in the ground
Like in the empty sky
But in my voice soft and loud
And the every blink of my eye

Antebellum;
Cotton blows in the black south,
Spitting soul from black Caesar's mouth.

Wind of song and wind that moans,
Wind that howls from buried bones.

Wind of truth and wind that rains,
Wind of dying in broken chains.

Your purple lips lapped
The white thigh drip,
Hot bit your simple smile
And the light read,

T U  E  S  F O R T U N A

How could love's own milk be sweet?
Your pink toes repeat,
Fast valleys in their oceans
Spun up and out.
Noah Ducane Nov 2020
When you are always going
On, where you once had known
Yourself
You are sealed by your smile
And feel so close to the cold
The wind behind the window
The voice inside the voice
Or the eye killed by the eye
Do not say nothing
But silence speaks loud
And can follow you down
or in silent dignity remain
Like life's last flowers
always growing
into the sun
on and on
on the going away
that is just passing for
a shadow
that falls into light
finally
forget the world and like the morning
sink to swim back up again

Do you hate the sounds you make when high?
Laugh, laugh!
That's the best bed med.

With a plumb whip and rosary,
Send another txt -
Names you've nailed,
And kiss treats.

Do you hate the way you speak?
But I hate it more,
And more and more,
Do not ignore,
Sneers and ***** stay.

I know you are the type
Who loves feeling sad
Who builds a temple out of sorrow
To worship your despair

I know you dream of death
Not real death
But escape
Like a love story
That ends absolute

I know you like the dark
And fear light
For someone might shine it down your well
And you won't be able to hide

I know you are the type
Who fears light
For fear of being burned
Who fears smiling
For fear of crying again

Faith will empty you

Strange, but true

And love I never knew

Still my love grew

When you were held in my dying breath

And angels I thought came down

Nothing feels quite like death

But you in your pity would drown

And feeling sick of mice and men

You took me and said, "but then again",

We talked, but that didn't matter until the kiss

You struck me, and never missed

Faith will empty you

Strange, but true

And love I never knew

Still my love grew and grew

The waters move,
The clouds move,
The wind blows back the trees.

People move,
The earth moves,
And mountains sink
into the sea.

Statues of marble
White as the moon,
Cold as the stones
Of the dead who are buried.

The lights are all stubborn,
Our backs bend low,
Our heads bend low
From the crosses we've carried.

All arrows we've fired
Hit the same ground,
Each of us friends
Who are friendless.

The waters move,
The clouds move,
I look up above and it's endless.
Noah Ducane Sep 2015
When I hear myself,
I think bad thoughts

When I see myself,
I think worse

How many times have we been here?
(Don't answer, you might lose your head)

How many times?
More than 4

How sick do you have to be before dying?

When I correct myself,
I feel better than myself

Please don't think
Please don't think
Please don't think about it
Noah Ducane Jun 2015
Spare not my feelings

Sick of friends and rage at the wall

Cool words in silence bleed

And I'm stuck staring at the wall

Fire dance in the milk of life

Drunk and made by the sunlight

Spare not my feelings and ill regret

Wine in our hearts opened the windows of love
Noah Ducane Sep 2016
Four handsome angels,
Their wings like melting silver,
Fall from heaven,
Like statues toppling down.

Their porcelain faces,
Their thunderbolt eyes,
All dolls thrown down
With swords in hand.

And heads poised upward,
Down, down and down,
Like gentle beaming stars
Bleeding down through the sky.

Their hair is fire,
And their screams are hymns,
And slain they were
With their eyes to heaven.

And god, the father,
Said: "Thus always to traitors"
And scorn filled them
Like a thorn in the heart.

Four handsome angels,
Whose backs were turned,
Grinned like children
To the solid ground.

And how long the fall,
And how hard the ground,
But blessed four angels grin,
When the earth opened
And swallowed them whole.

Their hair was fire,
And their screams were hymns,
And slain they were
With their eyes to heaven.

Freedom to live,
freedom to die,
freedom american,
or fredom un-american.
Live as you like,
be as you like,
as all should be,
be as all should be.

Freedom is an act,
and love is no peace.
Live forever, die forever.

They call me expatriate,
and I go on living.
They say I should die,
and I go on living.

Freedom to live,
freedom to die,
I sigh,
I recoil,
"ah, must be a lie".

Freedom is no number,
death is no song.
Life is no art,
words are no truth.

Freedom is yours,
and freedom is mine.
No flag,
no country,
no truth.
Freedom is no lie.

I hate the bodies of skateboarders -
I am only watching from a distant window wishing
I looked as good as
a carcass to a hundred starving crows.

The naked day
sunbathing  -
I see from the shade,
cool and remote.
my chest is filled with cobwebs,

And I'm
thinking only of biting into an orange
or being the orange
some skateboarder
would bite into.

I am the beginning
And I am the end.

Between two hurricanes of light,
And the flashing muses dancing in
the Arcadian sun;
Between two deserts white as bone,
Between two furnaces, hell and heaven.

I am the one eye and the one body.
I am the one truth and gilded soul.

Of twenty-million royal days,
Of infinite stars dripping in the infinite void,
Of savage movements through the destiny of fortune,
Of ecstasy infernal in the marauding mind,
Of hauntings ecstatic through the inaudible gears,
Of arms of ocean and pillars of men,
Of mountains made dust by the breath of time.

I am oblivion without name,
I am the eagle perched on the dying elephant.

With height insurmountable,
With tongues of fire they speak for me.
With love beyond love beyond love,
They practice me.
They go, and I leave them.
They see, and I see them.

I am they as you are,
I am you through the abyss of eternal life.

Lord of infinity ten times twelve,
And the worlds collapsing and the world rebuilt,
One with all,
All patient and
All being.

I am in ad infinitude,
For deaths in ice
And paradise everlasting.

Hear what is said,
And live what is said.
Lord of infinity ten times twelve.

I am the secret of secrets,
Hidden where even truth cannot see.

All things collapse in me,
And rise again.
Awake and be happy;
I am the beginning
And                                                                                                                       I am the end.

Buddha's hand has five fingers,
And Jesus had five too.

We walk where dead men walk,
And we think with minds of ash.

Pyramids are built for gods,
But lord knows these gods had red blood.

We pray and pray and pray,
The world turns it's head.
The bullets fly,
And words too.
We pray and pray and pray,
The world turns it's head.

His plenty health
The beating breath
Beats with his heart
Abounding

Born from bed,
The fountain of the sun
Bathes him

His majesty
In the tower sky
Unfolding fast
The blinding day

Love him,
The laugh of the world
King of tomorrow
And every day

Jenny killed herself
Because of all the things people do;
It's not much of an excuse,
But it's true.

Jenny's death was quick and painless
Life's pain dragged on too long;
And some people hate pain
More than others.

Jenny couldn't be bothered
To hang around
She was busy hanging
After all the kids laughed
And parents cried.

Jenny was a lover
And a love subject, too;
So many loved her,
If she only knew.

I am the sea
Make for me
Rivers in the sand

Flood the world
And come back to me
I am the sea
And the tide is me
And the sun swims softly in

I can reach
And you'll be there
And I'll pull the world in

I am the sea
Make for me
Rivers in  the sand

I could be made of gold,                                                                                                                                         and dance my life away.
I could glow with praise,                                                                                                                                         I could be lifted by the crowd.
I could charge by the hour,                                                                                                                                     I could make living cheap.
I could dine with kings,                                                                                                                                           or deny them the pleasure.
I could be outspoken,                                                                                                                                             even whispering my voice would be heard.
I could raise the sun,                                                                                                                                               I could command the stars.
Yet it would not make me happy,                                                                                                                          it would not make me sing.
Beyond you there is nothing,                                                                                                                               and no love of anything.
Noah Ducane Nov 2015
If for all things the sun shines,
How many years will clouded skies be;
In every breath this stubborn heart still beats.

If for all time the tide sways,
This our song is born a river ocean blue,
And one year between a word
be a mountain before the stars.

If one loss is one too many,
Death like desert secures a drought,
And laughless men dream in their chains.

Cold is the night before the day,
If for all things the sun shines,
The sky will clear for none but you.
Noah Ducane Aug 2016
If I can see the world
I can't imagine losing it
If I can love you
I can't imagine not loving you
But time and time again
My eyes close and I lose the world
As I have lost you
Both to death
I will lose the world
Eyes locked forever
As I have lost you
But after the first death
There is no other

If only you could see
behind the simple words
worlds waiting
for you to come play

If you unticked your time
to sail in rhyme
you'd see oceans waiting for you

If you breathed in
careful at the close
and savored each moment
like a full-course meal

If only you paused
at wordy pages
and welcome them in
like new friends

You'll find a place
a saving grace
from the world around
you'll built yours within.
Noah Ducane May 2020
If you looked even once,
If you turned to me,
If you touched me once,
If you said one word
selflessly.

Can youth suffer silence
Until youth is gone?
But silence is the worst kind of friend
When she is a companion constant,
And I cannot live like the dead
Until I am among them.

The most important choices are made for us,
And I did not choose to be me.

But if you looked just once,
If you looked at me
Like you could see nothing else,
Then there would be no clouds,
Then I could live in the blue sky again.
Noah Ducane Sep 2016
In the folds of the sea
That sneak about,
Like sheets blown
In a winter's wind,
From their ocean vaults
Where ghosts creep out;
Under the foam,
Tinged with sun,
Ten million years
Storm in the tide.

In the waves of the world,
Eloped in time,
I look at the clouds
Painted in the sky.

In the moors of the depths,
Driven mad with longing,
I hear the siren's call,
The sands of the beach stretch infinitely.

In the folds of the sea,
Held by the moon,
I see the ocean churned white,
Tinged with sun,
Ten million years
Storm in the tide.

Like a doomsday prophet,

I am waiting

Death is no solution, life is no cure.
Love is no escape
Truth is no salvation.

Just imagine what you freed us from
We're loose and unbroken.

Oh, play on!
We're drugs and truth and *** unpolished.
Unabolished.

Bashed the truth and killed the calf
Here I am
Sacrifice me so sullenly.

And dead to me this chosen few
Given breed this blood to few
My love for few and scorn for many
Seed to love is many in.

Little boats
Examine the time -
Their sails go shifting
As the wind goes searching,
And the world's out waiting for me.

With their bodies bright
As sunlight broken
From it's steely chains,
The doors of heaven gaping,
With the bottom of the sea shaking,
And the the little boats sink and rise,
Sink and rise again.
