The Future—never spoke
Three Minute Warning A messenger delivers A three minute warning As I lay in bed at 10:30 am (Resting in preparation for, not from, our oops, early morning hike). Breakfast will be ready in 3, Get your **** in gear or else It will be cold, I'll be mad, And you will answer to a Higher Authority. No problem cause I already know All I need is two. Splash water on my face Now I'm presentable enough to the human race, current company probably won't be happy, But I ain't telling her, are you? Shave! You crazed? It is a three day weekend, Every day a July Fourth, Celebrating freedom from the European tyranny, Of shaving smooth  every day! Splash water on my head, count with me, Five brush strokes as you can plainly see Is a classic case of overcompensating In my geling n' hair stylin' Brush my teeth, well, I hope 2 full minutes of rinsing with  CVS Green stuff, mouthwash, will have to suffice. Blast my deodorant both sides, Long and strong, wearin' now My bold blue *** husk of musk, Cause I am a very considerate fellow Who happens to really have stunk. Clean T- shirt and shorts, Yes, clean underwear too, Leaves me a whole minute to write this scribble. My flip flop noises coming down the hallway, Are the butler announcing our joint arrival, Me and my poem. Lest you think this is paean to men Another grand male boast, Be advised this ditty be writty By a man who, while no longer gritty, Just put jelly on his scrambled eggs And ketchup on his toast! Mmmmmmm there might be a poem Lurking in that too...

The Violent Storm by the Water (Do You Trust Your Imagination) was not unexpected but its fury was without compare, poet awake in semi-preparation living by water should be a human right for all, even a small room, overlooking, gives new meaning to perspective we blessed with a patio door, encased in a glass window big enough for a smallish elephant to come visit and play with children a storm is observed up close and personal as if one was in an IMAX 3D  theater, and the edges of existence were being redefined, sharpened by fury, tooled by tools untouched by mortal hands miles of bay illuminated with bass drum furious accompaniment stand before the screen, poets arms outstretched as a supplicant, the light of the lightening passes through him, yet , behind me, she still sleeps then the entire house shakes, reverberates, as if to say: ”tremble humans, cower, you are not permitted to watch my majesty, for such it was when created heaven and earth” bold poet window worshipping risky answers: “but who will know if even a poet cannot declaim sights no one else has seen?” ”true, true, but you must choose if poet truly, do you trust your imagination human, to prove that the powers of the heavens are limitless?” write of storms unseen and nature endless miracles ***”then you may call yourself a miracle too, a poet***”

The Violent Storm by the Water (Do You Trust Your Imagination)
Knights clad in paper armor Draw their pen-shaped swords In preparation for battle Against the dragon named Algebra All year they've trained for this day Poring over musty tomes Filled with archaic battle plans Entire armies have been lost In the dangerous search For the elusive variable called X The informants A and B Have consistently given Inconsistent information And the number line Has completely deserted them The numbers taunt the knights Mocking their puny calculators Confident in their unanswerable status Yet one by one The polynomials fall The dragon bows it's head The Knights have won the day.

Battle for the Final Exam
Day in, day out on the mind All comes down to competition Result of years of preparation. In those seconds of restlessness When the body can take no more Dream of a medal reassure. Will to succeed is eminent Breathes through each atom and cell To have what only a champion can smell. In the spirit of sportsmanship Fair play is to be endeavored The performance to be savored. Now is everything you pursued Aspiring in the end To proudly sing the national anthem. A steep climb to that podium Be the best that you can be And have what only a winner can see.

Only a champion
Dear Dad, That’s all I ever wanted you to be. A dad, my dad. I didn’t expect you to be a great dad, or even a good dad, but you never made any attempt to be anything close to a dad at all. You did try to be other things to me though. A dictator, a manipulator, even a ****** partner. You may say that I wanted it, you might even actually believe that, but I assure you that my compliance was not an indication of my enjoyment. Compliance was simply the only option you gave me. I saw the way you looked at me long before you ever put your hands on me, but you waited. You waited until you’d pushed me to the brink of insanity. You made me question my reality so much that I’d believe anything you told me. Then on top of that, you found a way to make everyone in our family question every word that I ever uttered in preparation for the day that I’d tell them what you’d done because you knew that eventually, I would. You planned out every piece of what you did so perfectly. Even after I’d come out with the truth you made sure that the walls around me crumbled before yours did. All I ever wanted was for you to be my dad, but you couldn’t even give me that.

Dear Dad
Even the idea was worthy of a fight and all too much preparation. We dolled ourselves up for alienation, even though the faces present were so familiar and etched into memory. Who are you Mr.Cool? If that is your real name. Whiskey breath and filterless smokes only impresses the girls in the movies, with scripts written by clueless men like you, who can't supply injury so they bring only insult. You are a secretary bird, a mime, and the copycat kid. Trying to be a bad boy and hide amongst the spoiled brats you claim. Keep on burrowing and severing ties, ravishing resources leads to ruin. You say you've heard rumors? Well, I've heard facts. I've seen facts! Your parasitic disguise will crumble under the weight of your genuinely selfish persona. While the company I keep will only know the side you wished to reveal in front of all the pretty boys and girls.

Party Night (Rumors)
In our fast-paced world, many things have become easier:    communication, information, food preparation, even study. We have the internet, smart phones, tablets, emails,    Google, Wikipedia, fast food, and instant coffee. But have we ever stopped to observe just how    things being easy make them seem more trivial, too? For the things we’re after, we no longer know    how to sweat, sacrifice, aspire, wait, persist, endure… Maybe it’s made us cease to dream as well    as everything is merely ****** upon us to take. We have lost the values that only hard work, toiling    and fighting through insurmountable odds can make. And even then we never seem to have enough of what we desire,    not enough sleep, time, knowledge, money, or power; We find no contentment in what we already possess    as our seconds, minutes and days are spent wanting more. Perhaps we need to re-examine where we’re heading,    take instruction from the numerous generations past. That it is only that which we strive for, that which we cherish    with all our hearts and everything we have, that can last. *(c) emeraldine087

This Day and Age
mommy loves you unconditionally even as you soar amongst the clouds searching for the perfect timing to come on down please, forgive my impatience i just have this undying urge to have you here in my arms, clinging to my breast as i provide you with life and you provide my breaths little one, shining so bright come to me only when you feel it's right the doctors tell me otherwise and my womanhood is of questionable might but i know you are as rightfully my child just as i am the moon to your night an infertile mother will forever understand why so many letters are written to our unborn with shaken hands why so many tears have fallen why you wonder it isn't your calling to be given a life of other plans but i know you hear me, little one and i know you love me too and i promise to better preserve my body so that it may be the perfect home for you until you are ready to bless me with your smile; the uniqueness that is true everything i do, everything i aim to be, every dream i work so hard to achieve i do for you so please, be slow and easy little one mommy needs preparation too just know this, when you've become tired of waiting; when you're ready for the world and you're journey has come to the point of passing through watch for flashing lights and smiling faces and tears of joy listen for songs of love because i'll be right there-- for i've been waiting too... just for you.

to my unborn
My ascent into adulthood was just that, an ascent. It has come slowly with little consistency and massive amounts of determination, stamina, and a reassuring trust in the universe. But the idea of adulthood has slipped its way into my expanding comfort zone with ease, which I think has come from the preparation I received throughout my childhood. The importance of perseverance and hard work in achieving anything at all was beyond emphasized in the parenting techniques of my immigrant mother and father. They sent the babies straight from their unemployed bellies into the best forms of higher education they could find because My achieving of adulthood was more of just a gradual shift in mentality and perspective that developed into my addiction to change and new experiences, distaste for dependence, and denial of my previous nostalgic tendencies. With more maturity also came a more logical understanding of the world around me. The more I understood the working ways of my surroundings, physical and psychological, the better I could feel my drive to achieve. The achievement I sought was not economic or career oriented in any aspect. It was based off of my ceaseless search for something new or for the rad or for the gnar or for swagger or for living a life that could inspire a minimum of 3 people including myself. The seed of this search was planted in me during my childhood by my five older siblings who all held within their bellies a fire of the same breed.

found grounded bird closed in ribboned-box and buried underneath a willow snapped back to finally relax to decompose and nourish by the lake in drooping shade the felled leaves pile candy wrappers gray snow in parking lot corners with pumpkin spice scented candles with charred letters skirling up the arm dropped to sizzle and puff out white beanies flannels leather boots and jangly bronze-leafed wind chimes I sit on the patio and listen to you speak the chill of your words perched like a squirrel barking on a fence top hibernation preparation and breeze the gospel of your autumn it’s lovely.

At the defense proposal I was convinced I would make it through The proposal in my hand, Months of preparation, mentally, physically, loaded brain... Well prepared I was for this judgement day A little over confident, perhaps.... In the life of a Phd candidate This is the true battle of Academia Whether you'd be at the top or you would be shot dead The honorable Panels will decide... The moment you utter a sentence or two.. Continuous attacks from the left and right endlessly..... till you have your head buried in the ground Again you wake up and strike again This is your war.... Defense is war.. the war of life the moment of truth the battle of a doctorate student everywhere Research Objectives, Research Questions, The Signification of research and the Implication, the contribution of this study SO WHAT? One by one was being detailed, scrutinized and questioned Dear panels, please be kind Was patiently coping with your brutal  attacks Head held low, head held high... Nearly had a stroke, But I refused to die... Thank you dear panels, my courteous smile for you... I'd be back, You'd see me again, When I counter attack....

Phd Defence Proposal
The pick All the stress that an orange has caused is painful. It is painful for the tree from which it came. Snatched away with promises of sweetness. A tree mostly green, engulfing Small speckles of that deceptive orange. It was such a bright colour – high hopes! Handpicked by a man only looking for the best, Choosing poorly not for the first time. The green leaves frantically try to reclaim what’s theirs. Branch after branch reaching out, trying to uproot him. Close, so close. But they are a sea apart, At least an apple has a core, a heart. The peel Now it is pilfered, the painful process begins, Never quite ending: disappointment beckons. To try and taste these orange juices You soldiers must bear the burden. Each soldier, a finger digging themselves Into the tough stressful shell. Fingernails stained with orange blood, Eyes blinded by the same tangy juices. It never slips off in one go Like a roomy balaclava, But crumbles like the remnants of a bombing. Brick by brick, orange by orange it crumbles. Now it is finally undone But neither tree nor man has won. The preparation The crust collapsed, but now It is time to untangle the web the mantle holds. First, a division – the separation of brothers Who served side by side at birth. Dissected by these soldiers Acting as a bomb squad, Searching for those hidden pips. Found, but not without casualties – Sticky fingers with no taps in sight. Once removed the web is untangled. Tired, he hopes that the stress will swiftly end Unaware that the sweetness was just pretend. The pain Finally the moment has arrived And illogical ceremonies commence. I fear the celebration is far too soon, For as white touches orange and tries So desperately to unite, The tartly taste slays the poor man’s buds: Igniting like petrol on his burning tongue. He wishes he could return that orange To the green tree to which it belongs, To return a bullet-sprayed windscreen is not an option. The orange, once bitten, enjoys its trance Latching on to those pained tingling taste buds. His orange, a disaster to undress: Bad taste – a foolish price for such a mess.

Be composed—be at ease with me—I am Walt Whitman, liberal and ***** as Nature; Not till the sun excludes you, do I exclude you; Not till the waters refuse to glisten for you, and the leaves to rustle for you, do my words refuse to glisten and rustle for you. My girl, I appoint with you an appointment—and I charge you that you make preparation to be worthy to meet me, And I charge you that you be patient and perfect till I come. Till then, I salute you with a significant look, that you do not forget me.

To A Common **********
Everybody’s going nowhere and I am far gone I can’t even see the ocean the motion was all wrong Just a sea of broken bottles and cigarette models On the floor, so high I had to clean the sky Never been an existentialist, cynic, or a pessimist Just another body on the edge of metamorphosis Clinging to a rope I hope will not snap Like my neck if I hit the ground, oh crap! I’m apocalyptic fresh and I can’t say why If I do it’s a lie, see the needle in my eye? Meditation, preparation, or a conscious legislation Couldn't help the fact my words are often littered with abrasions As if shock rock poetry could save me from my death It could possibly enlighten but I wouldn't hold my breath Now I’m frightened by the notion of a new world order But anarchy is hip if you’re on this side of the border I digress, what a mess if you know what I mean But I've burned out quicker than gasoline…

Absurdist Rap
Lying apart now, each in a separate bed, He with a book, keeping the light on late, She like a girl dreaming of childhood, All men elsewhere - it is as if they wait Some new event: the book he holds unread, Her eyes fixed on the shadows overhead. Tossed up like flotsam from a former passion, How cool they lie. They hardly ever touch, Or if they do, it is like a confession Of having little feeling - or too much. Chastity faces them, a destination For which their whole lives were a preparation. Strangely apart, yet strangely close together, Silence between them like a thread to hold And not wind in. And time itself's a feather Touching them gently. Do they know they're old, These two who are my father and my mother Whose fire from which I came, has now grown cold?

A Mother's Intuition
I used to know things about people, it was all too easy for me to figure them out. I used to dread the day when I had found out I've failed, when I couldn't save someone. Strange or depressing as it may seem, I'm glad I haven't had to attend all the funerals I tried to prepare myself for. I used to know if someone had ever been touched wrongly. Unwillingly. How far past their "no's" were gotten. I can't do that anymore, I don't know how to help anymore. I used to cry at all the pain, I used to sob myself to sleep. These days I try anything just to feel a single tear on my cheek. I used to hear things without finding or ever questioning the source. I used to sing out my struggles to the sounds I heard while crying on my backyard's swing set. I still hear it sometimes, but maybe that's just my imagination. My mom told me I used to see angels.  All I can remember was being scared of the footprints on my ceiling. Maybe they were angels, maybe they were demons. Maybe they were just early signs of schizophrenia. Was all of that just preparation? Was it all just a coincidence? Is this real? Is it God's work? Is it fate? Do I believe in any of that anymore??? Who knew that a conversation over cigarettes with you would leave me so confused. Is our craziness compatible, like taking a drug together and having the same trip? Or maybe we're gifted with seeing things for how they really are. Or maybe its just you. Maybe I'm lost forever. I need to walk your path. I heard sounds in the woods with you But was it the same music? Do we share the same insanity? Tell me if its a blessing or a curse. Tell me if its worth all the pain. Tell me if I can handle it... if I won't **** myself first. Does the light in everything outweigh the darkness?   Tell me what you think about souls now. Does everything live forever? Can you still see their light if they're dead? Tell me what you feel. Tell me what you know now. I want your truths. This has to be real. My world has been flipped and turned inside out. But finally, for once, I think everything makes sense.

Blue skies and apple pies Football games and guns to aim 40 hours of work and fireworks Heteronormativity and conformity White tranquility in the midst of police brutality White terrorism claiming nationalism What is the American Dream? Shutdowns and cages and riches for ages Fascism raises from hateful rampages Families taken away from their own These are a few of Trump's favorite things. What is the American dream? A flag always at half-mast In preparation for the next mass shooting Killing the poor with a minimum wage That can't even afford rent Mocking the people we stole this land from. America the land of the free Construct of the patriarchy Thousands of dollars in medical bills Treating our oceans like landfills. Oh say can you see by the dawn's early light A country so broken the end is in sight. Capitalistic ideals that possess the rich Destroying the poor as we're thrown in a ditch Together we must rise above And show Trump's cult what we're made of.

The true spirit of Ramadhan
With ideas in her head, she acquires ingredients from creation. She picks up some bread, some meats and some crustacean. With purchases in her hands, she assembles them into her curation. Each ingredient has a plan, that's all part of her preparation. She cook in her pots and pans, dishes of her imagination. Juggling flavours and textures, from experience and experimentation. She host her friends regularly, not any one group particularly. With smiles, laughter and her kitchen art, everyone sense the generosity from her heart. She is the artist, the scientist, the chef, the friend and my wife.

Friday Night Dating
It’s been said to cause success, Yet its’ face is boldly grim. Some even say it makes or breaks you, Kills your soul, or fills the brim. It’s been deemed the roughest test, Where preparation meets implausible. Whenever passion makes a breakthrough Sounds of hell’s end become audible. It’s received reviews of stress, Of endless torture tearing through. Leaving good men self-departed, For they had no will to make it through. It’s been seen in years of the past, The trials of Job denote it well. As Satan crushed his joys, Job consummated to prevail. It’s been said, “show no regret!” When you look deep into your mind, For this test is truly an artist Creating a man, from pure divine. So why let discouragement corrupt Your trip through the abyss? For it’s been said to cause success, And that’s one hell of a gift.
