I looked at the bright
blue ocean
and looked at the
calming waves
slowly coming,
and going
and i stepped into
the water
a cold rush ran
up my leg as I
continued walking
and then those
calming waves
turned into Big
Monstrous waves
and eventually
I was under them
and I reached for
the surface
but I couldn't
make it.
And I was left
wondering
how something
so perfect
could be so
dangerous.
She Writes Jul 2018
I wrote I love you in the sand
The waves washed it away
Before you got the chance to see

I whispered I love you
Sleep stole you away
Before you got the chance to hear

Maybe this is meant to be
A missed connection
Between you and me
Dark waves crash against a nearby rock,
as I sit and watch the salt litter every inch.
Small droplets find their way to my skin,
and soon paint patterns across my canvas.
One that has not been blank for so long --

instead,
this is not the first time.

My miles of skin crave for your touch,
but you are gone.
I cannot bring myself to forget
how your eyes used to trail my body.

We’d sit by that little waterfall and wait
for the mist to carry its way to us,
leaving us wanting more.

As we sat in our little patch of green,
we would count the stars.
The faint feeling of your finger,
finding its way to my hand --

and a face that never leaves my head.
A nose strong and slightly crooked,
like the tree branches creating a canopy
of leaves above --
hiding us from the moon’s light
and the shadows of the night.

And lips,
moulding perfectly with mine --

like two lone puzzle pieces,
finally finding their home,
amongst the jagged ones
surrounding them.
A time so perfect,
that flowed so nicely --

that I long for again someday,
like the waves in autumn,
striking this rock beside
me.

We lived on two islands.
Stood by the ocean, always within sight,
But never in reach.
So, for years we just looked on.
Wondering what could have been.
If not for the water, and the danger it screams.

Yet one day I could take it no more.
Dived in - head first, determined to reach your shore.
Barely half way and my legs giving in
I wondered just how much a fool I had been.

But then I see you once more,
But not on the beach? You’re here, you’re in front of me. I was so happy I swore.
As we embraced one another,
The sea took its prize.
We fell under the waves and I began to realise.

That this was the end,
The end of our lives.
Yet I’d never been as happy as now – looking into your eyes.
As we hit the seafloor,
I don’t feel regret.
I just hold on to your hands,
Knowing our love will live on – forevermore.

Have you ever felt anything more amazing?
The sun kissing your face
while your eyes rest
while you take a breath
lying down listening to the waves.
They come and go incessantly
but you like the sound of them
their rhythm takes you on a journey.
A journey you shall always cherish,
wisdom you got through pain and torment
And now it's time to let it go
You've earned your rest
Take a bow
Pull the curtains
Empty your mind and rejoice
You left your mark in this world
You touched people in your wake
And that's all you can ever hope for

Headed out for some fun
basking in the sun
lay on the shore
you could hear the roar
the waves kept coming at you

caressing as they greet
they kissed your feet
bubbling with energy
gushing with fervour to meet
they brought crab & meat
when they kept coming at you

recurring and old
and sometimes cold
but every new one
growing increasingly bold
glittering with hope & twilight gold
as they kept coming at you

they peeked up your skirt
not that it hurt
only you didn’t come prepared
not that they cared
and they kept coming at you

running up your dress
they didn’t impress
bringing sand and dirt along
as they got steady and strong
the sand began to bite
so you sprang upright
to see more waves coming at you

probed by the prying eyes
getting tired of the lies
you decided to rise
to face the mighty tide
as you had nothing to hide
challenging the forces of the mystic
that kept pushing the waves at you

now that you knew
how the wind blew
you walked further in
to the sea as the sun
met your gaze
with its last bent rays
with the waves still coming at you

then came the big one
in the absence of sun
with such vastness it came
that no force could tame
you stood there frozen;
neither tied nor bound
yet you didn’t make a sound
and the other waves tried to reach you

rising with the high wave
oh! Such thrill it gave
being pushed up and high
just a few inches to the sky
you look down to see
the waves still chase
the now empty space.

I have it in spades
But it comes in waves,
In the climb, I know I'm worth it,
On the precipice, it feels so clear,
In the curl, I'm tested,
It's in the break that I get lost,
And just as it pulls me in,
I ride upon the backs of the strong women who surround me,
Holding me accountable,
Exposing the humanity that grounds me,
Resolve is a funny thing,
I have it in spades,
But it comes in waves.
