Wear your scars like tattoos,
Let them remind you of the times you could've died,
But you learned to swim with the tide.

Your absence
laps
at my shore
like a
f o r g e t f u l tide;
some days
it stays
                                   out,
letting me
breathe,
letting me
be-
other days,
it makes up for this,
swamping me
in a
tsunami,
and all I
can do
is
keep my
eyes
trained on land.

You are the moon.
Please return soon.
Euphoria of returning to
the old seaside cocoon.
The place of change and shift
of heart and mind,
and tide which
pushed the town
right back
in January.

The next day we looked out at the promenade
in pieces like an emptied out jigsaw box
but cheered for postponed exams
so we could cherish important things,
like a night out at the Pier, and long talks.

Returning back
finding it’s still
just the same
as the train parts
through the hills
and forward
to the dead end
that began it all.
Written during seminar at I.C.A, London, in November or December 2016.

we'll
build
sand
castles
on the sky
where the tide
won't quash on
them and little feet
won't crumble them

What rises at night but calls to me
That cymbal-crashing, moaning sea
Draws me through the humid air
Woe is me, again nobody is there.

And in the water that I can see
Reflects the moonlight back at me
“Murky Mirror, call me close,
I love you though I am morose.”

And then the ocean whispers so slight
Its voice is silvery, quiet at night.
“What love is this, from your heart?
Words mean nothing, they’re empty, ****.”

“But I am more!” Cried I to the sea,
“And I came here to set you free!”
And so the sea sobbed a mist,
“Your eyes are dark, love you twist.”

Then I again yelled to the nighttide,
“Why fight then, if you just subside?”
So the irate waves get loose
“My soul desires your water’s sluice!”

“If that is your wish, then so be it.”
And for the sea, my life I quit.
Like a raft, I drift away
From my dreams, I’ll opt to stray.

I do not know where I’ve come to be
In my pelagic life on the sea
But while I drift here alone
I can no longer hear that wretched moan.

the easy way out was always the thing i love for all the wrong reasons. don't you know you should never ride the wave? you end up being bruised and pulled back to the tide to be bruised again. Kiss the cheek that isn't salty to avoid how deep this oceanic void goes. The point is I've always been a pale yellow alone

As the waves separate and leave him standing
alone on his small rock
in the middle of the ocean,
he lets out a sigh of deep,
haunted sadness. The fractured earth
is sending harsh, jagged lines
of rending sound out
and into the open. Children play
on the line of the shore
and dance in the joyful waves
greeting their toes
as they push their feet
into the wet sand.
He watches the giant wave approach them,
the fear cloud their happy eyes,
their laughter instantly merge
into a harmony
of pure terror.
He watches them run,
pointlessly,
for the false safety
of their mothers' arms.
He shudders his cold,
rattling breath and waits
to see how long
it will take this time.

The river of time
Slowly eases through my mind
Just can’t ease the tide

We are only strength in ourselves,
for the tides of others will only
wash upon their shores.

Only the wind of their  reasoning
with blow our currents a certain way,
but we may not hear its gentle whispers.
