Don't stand fast in fear of being moved by passion.
Be carried away in its waves

There is the passion that burns like a flame,
But beware of the passion so intense
you end up enveloped
where you burn or drown.

and the highest of tides
crest and balance along your side,
and render these ships asunder
under the dark and pressing thunder.

for i see the warmth in the light of that drowning,
that sparkling thunder abounding,
of rains and passing clouds, only a heart-shaped breach
holds the ethos of your sorrow, always shifting,
ever out of reach.

I feel the proximity of the ground escape me.
Weightlessness weighs heavy on the soul.
Afraid to be enraptured by the temptation of sinless pleasure.
There is no sinless pleasure like the way the ocean breeze kisses your face.
And you follow the shells dotting the coastline to a forgotten treasure.
The strangers fade into granules of sand.
The noise dies into a whisper.
Raptured by the tide.
Hiding from the crowd.
Meet me by the ocean side.
Let us rapture.

This imminent death
browsing me
a scavenger with me
on the tide to the
center of nowhere
I stare into the
heart of fear
and know that
I will be found

Every time I drift
something always carries me
back to your embrace.

Wear your scars like tattoos,
Let them remind you of the times you could've died,
But you learned to swim with the tide.

Your absence
laps
at my shore
like a
f o r g e t f u l tide;
some days
it stays
                                   out,
letting me
breathe,
letting me
be-
other days,
it makes up for this,
swamping me
in a
tsunami,
and all I
can do
is
keep my
eyes
trained on land.

You are the moon.
Please return soon.
Euphoria of returning to
the old seaside cocoon.
The place of change and shift
of heart and mind,
and tide which
pushed the town
right back
in January.

The next day we looked out at the promenade
in pieces like an emptied out jigsaw box
but cheered for postponed exams
so we could cherish important things,
like a night out at the Pier, and long talks.

Returning back
finding it’s still
just the same
as the train parts
through the hills
and forward
to the dead end
that began it all.
Written during seminar at I.C.A, London, in November or December 2016.

we'll
build
sand
castles
on the sky
where the tide
won't quash on
them and little feet
won't crumble them
