A single feather falls
- down to earth -
through filtered light and liquid forest air,
landing softly in the palm of my hand,
a silver teardrop, a song, a memory;
the echo of a startled kererū.

E koekoe te tūī, e ketekete te kākā, e kūkū te kererū.
Not back - just visiting. Miss y’all!
Have just started Te Reo Māori classes. The last line translates as: ‘The tūi chatters, the parrot gabbles, the wood pigeon coos.’

what wonders exist,
                    i imagine,
                            behind your eyes?

what wonders exist
                       in
          the palm of your hand?

                        it would be miraculous
          if those wonders
                                       felt
                        anything
                 like
your lips.

there is beauty and peace in palm trees
as there is loneliness in a summer garden.

Hearts beat
To the weight of a drum
With a steady beat
Against our palms
You're all I see
In the light of the day
Our pulse thumping
All in one

Board sign. Black paint.
Wind over the barren waste.
Dust storm. Gut wound.
Three, two, one, toward my doom.

Population 41.
When it's over and done, done,
I have another number
I've assigned to Him,
and by my ******* blood,
He's going to get His.

Population 41.
Does this shanty even have a doctor?
High five the sign as I pass it,
with a ****** palm print.

Welcome, 42.

I slithered my hand
across your chest
and your heart
wrote its story

Have you met the creases in my hands
Shocked you must be to know
That I've known them all along
Like the palm
