Confession
by Michael R. Burch

What shall I say to you, to confess,
words? Words that can never express
anything close to what I feel?

For words that seem tangible, real,
when I think them
become vaguely surreal when I put ink to them.

And words that I thought that I knew,
like "love" and "devotion"
never ring true.

While "passion"
sounds strangely like the latest fashion
or a perfume.

NOTE: At the time I wrote this poem, a perfume called Passion was in fashion. Keywords/Tags: confession, confess, words, tangible, real, surreal, feelings, love, devotion, passion, perfume, fashion, false advertising, hype

This Dog
by Rabindranath Tagore
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Each morning this dog,
who has become quite attached to me,
sits silently at my feet
until, gently caressing his head,
I acknowledge his company.

This simple recognition gives my companion such joy
he shudders with sheer delight.

Among all languageless creatures
he alone has seen through man entire—
has seen beyond what is good or bad in him
to such a depth he can lay down his life
for the sake of love alone.

Now it is he who shows me the way
through this unfathomable world throbbing with life.

When I see his deep devotion,
his offer of his whole being,
I fail to comprehend ...

How, through sheer instinct,
has he discovered whatever it is that he knows?

With his anxious piteous looks
he cannot communicate his understanding
and yet somehow has succeeded in conveying to me
out of the entire creation
the true loveworthiness of man.

“This Dog” appeared in the poetry collection Arogya by Rabindranath Tagore. Keywords: Tagore, translation, dog, feet, head, caress, caressing, joy, delight, devotion, friendship, companion, companionship, whole, being, entire, instinct, loveworthiness, mrburdu

all we need
is some sparks
and devotion
in our eyes,
and a little
bit of love
floating in a
pool of trust.

you
like the snow covered mountains,
you captivate me
pay attention, i'm craving you.

and suddenly the stars aligned,
when i found your gaze
and your soul met mine
only for you.
rk Jul 2017
i breathe you in
and just like that,
i'm intoxicated
darling, i'm addicted to you.

your love set me on fire,
his gives me wings.
now i know the difference.

i wonder if you still have the memory
of how it felt to possess me
or how sweet i tasted,
our bodies pushing against each other
screaming in your brain
burns of the third degree,
just like mine
a ghost in the background
taunting, yearning for ecstasy
bathing in endless torments
a martyr for your love.
