Sometimes we all need the beach
Faraway from the city's urban streets,
Sometimes the sound of the waves
Simply knock you off your feet.

To watch the children play in the sand
On a lovely summers day
Making castles with their buckets
In their little childlike way.

Sometimes we all need the beach
To be free from the hustle and bustle
Taking in the fresh sea breeze
Away from the toil and trouble.

The seagulls and their echoing cries
Seeking out a place to land
Many people are passing by
Heading for the brass band stand.

There is the wacky warehouse
Where you can have a beer or two
While your kids play on the slides
As they come in there with you.

Sometimes we all need the beach
To take away that daily stress
Relaxing in those deck chairs
Away from the factory or office desk.
Something to look forward too next year. Oh I do like to be beside the seaside. Just a simple poem.
The Calm Feb 2018
Hoping the horizon is blue
Even if it's disguised as grey
And that every day I woke up I pray
That on the seashore where I lay
The water will be as clear as day
And the trees will be as green as May
The sand as light as clay
And with me good company will stay
Even if the horizon is blue or grey
First poem of 2018, thinking about the future

My “Daffies” and Bluebells are budding now.
Maybe my Crocuses too.
Roll on Summer is what I say,
Clichéd though that may be.

No more dark dreary “days”,
With biting icy winds.
No more freezing fog
Or fretful snow.

Let’s have glorious sunshine
Bathing all our land.
Ice cream and holidays,
Leisure and luxurious slumbers.

Those Daffodils will be history by “Flaming June”
And with that “roll” will come the “rock”
Of sugar seaside sticks
With dancing music.

Oh to bring back Rock and Roll,
So we can do it again
Down on the beach
Where children ride on donkeys
While dogs frolic on the sands.
To play football again,
Jumpers for goal posts
On lush green grass.

Sunny summer.
Bring it on.

Yes, Roll on Summer!!!!!!
Mary K Feb 2018
When I close my eyes what I see are the mountain valleys
And trees covered with snow
All around me the only sign of civilization are the ski villages
And the air smells like fire in a chimney
With a hint of hot chocolate and waffles at every turn.
I feel myself secluded on the top of one of those mountains
In a cottage covered in snow
Breathing in the fresh mountain air
Cold but only enough that it’s the coziest feeling in the world to come inside to the warmth.
Nothing but inspiration flows in these winds up here
I am as weightless as the thin air this high
And as soft snow falls it consumes me
Until I start and end with the mountain and the sky.

But I blink, and suddenly warm tropical sun is hitting my bare shoulders
White sand resembling snow, but the resemblance stops there
Because these tropical waters are alight with colors other than white and brown and green.
The ocean waves match my hair
And my freckled skin is kissed by the sun in such a way that I swear I belong here forever.
There’s the taste of mojitos in my mouth
And the smell of a scuba mask covering my nose.
Under the water is another world,
One I have never felt so close to
With sharks and corals and fish that all seem to be in such perfect balance
There’s nothing else in the world that matters but the sea and the sun and the sky.

I’m disarmed for a second by the rush of loud noise I at first think are the crashing waves
But then the shrill of a car horn caries and I realize that my feet have shoes on them once again
And they’re touching asphalt.
I look up at the buildings all around me
And though the air isn’t as fresh here,
There’s something to be said about the pretzels in the air
And the car fumes
And the smell of the pavement after the rain.
There’s so much noise, but it beats in time with my heart
And the swell of it all alights my excitement.
There is no place I’d rather be, not in this moment.
My thoughts are as abundant and high-reaching as the buildings all around me
And there’s a world of possibilities that seem to have been awoken in me as I stepped into this city.

The roar of the cars comes to a halt
And all I can hear is the wind though the fields.
My mind, for the first time in a long time,
Has nothing left in it.
I lay here, surrounded by nothing but flat land
Dotted by small white houses
With broken down brown barns to their left,
And stare up at the rolling clouds in the sky.
I don’t know where I am or where I’ve come from
All I know is that one cloud looks like the head of a lion
And the one next to it like a fox chasing his tail.
The wind softly tugs at my hair,
But I’m not cold in the breeze,
And it seems to be a part of me as much as I am a part of this field as I lie here.

Day turns to night quickly, and I’m suddenly looking up at the splattering of the nebulas.
It’s incredible. I’ve never been so close, here on the mountaintop.
I swear that if I reach high enough, I’ll be able to grab one and put it in my pocket. I don’t know why I’m so afraid to try.
The soft waves break against the shore, and there’s something magnificent about the way the ocean reflects the sky
So two dazzling displays are visible,
Working together. One stands unmoving aside from the planes that shoot across it
But the other ripples and flows, ever-moving, never-stopping.
Then I look up and there’s a haze of lights
Some stars, some planes, some just windows from buildings,
But it’s the city that never sleeps
And the stars are brilliant whether artificial or natural,
I feel each one splattered across the insides of me.
I lay here in the field,
Awake but fast asleep
More stars than I’ll ever see in my life spread out before me
And I suddenly feel smaller than ever,
This mortality that I am faced with is hammered into me by the brightness and abundance of all the stars in the sky.
I wonder who I am again,
Wonder how I got myself here,
On this mountain,
On this beach,
In this city,
In this field,
But I cannot find the through-line,
Not in this maze of constellations
And so I stop questioning for just a moment
And instead close my eyes and let my heart decide which way it wants to be pulled tonight,
And the stars oblige.
It was at the party where we first met.
I wasn't feeling it, but you did.
Thank goodness, you threw your number down.

I didn't mean to call you; my phone glitched.
But I don't regret it.

Chorus:
Now we're sitting in the bay drinking away our sun days,
Seeing the boats rocking in the sea.
The band plays a song about falling in love,
But I'm not thinking about that, I'm thinking this is the best vacation I've ever had
_

Now you're climbing up on me like a puppy saying I'm the cutest girl,
Saying you will miss my kiss, and you wouldn't trade our time for the world.
It's a shame I live far away, and we can't continue this,

My hotel key needs to be returned to the lobby, and I got to go home,
But I don't wanna go,
Gotta enjoy what's left of your lips.

Chorus

Now this Sunday has turned to a Saturday and it’s a goodbye we can't withstand.
I'll always have that picture of us and the memories on the sand.
You in your board shorts and me dressed to ****,
I won't stay another night.
Oh hell yes I will.
Chorus

witchy woman Feb 2018
my soul laughs with yours
the light in me sees the light in you
my fire burns your forests down
your breezes guide me to feelings
with which
I know not what to do.

I have no possession or jealousy
I have no sense of worry
Simply joy and curiosity
when I think of you.

So peculiar,
like sand slipping through my fingers
or wading through calm, open oceans
underneath a full moon.

I can sink or float if I chose to but yet,
I still cannot grasp you.

So I'll sit back,
and enjoy the view
for what we have is beautiful.
very at peace with my sense of self right now and where I am situationally.

Your eyes are the same green-blue of the ocean.
Your smile, as warm and bright as the sun.
Your laugh as welcome as the crash of the waves.
Your hands the sand caressing my body
as I lay in your bed.
You are my getaway
And I never want to leave.
Do you ever feel like there's a person that is your home? Like the one you want to go to when the world is crazy. They're your home. They're your getaway. They're your happy place, your comfort space.
Brianna Duffin Feb 2018
You are so hard
Your whole body is just firmness and strength
And I love melting into you
You are like the earth
And I’m the water
I soften your edges
As I flow through you
And you are my security
As you hold me.

If you were to ever be looking for me
I'll be where I feel the most free
Standing with my feet in the water

Wondering about a second life

Waiting to see
When and where the sun meets the sea
You will find me where the tides touch the sky
Where the fire red.
Meets the ocean blue.
Where sun rays reach out to fly
Watching such a sight helps me realize
As time goes by
Like as if it were human
The beauty of a sunset soon dies
It fades into dark
Nothing left but the stars shining bright
Light years apart
Out there...
Somewhere unknown

What would a second life be like
Is it heaven
Is it  home
Or...
Is it trapped out there
All alone

Is there excitement
Or…
Peaceful silence

Is there such thing as time there
Or perhaps…
It is endless

Is there sanity in a second life
Or maybe…
Joyful madness

If  it ends…
Does it come again
Or might it…
Only last a couple moments

Is    t h e r e…
A better place than   h e r e...

It makes me wonder what another life is
If we get another life out there
Or is it possible…

This is our only life
So…

Is it truly  p r i c e l e s s

I do not know but I can say this

If you were to ever be looking for me
I'll be right where I feel the most free
Standing with my feet in the water

Watching the sunrise
Because it reminds me of us all
It has a rise and fall
And yet still…
Every moment of it is precious
Just like the miracle that this thing called life is
The highs and the lows

In the end…
Just like a sunrise and sunset

They both...
