I think sometimes, about what it means to be transgender. I probe and probe for answers, because as the possibility for a new age of enlightenment and safety increases, the others want to know. I’ve come up with many answers, but I can hold to none. I don’t deserve to paint the definition of a culture with the limited experiences I’ve had. I don’t see myself in the transgender identified people allowed on television. I don’t see myself in the transgender identified people making news feeds and giving high profile interviews. And as my nation’s exposure to our culture increases, likely will their curiosity. Am I transgender? Do I have the right? I’ve heard doctors, psychiatrists, may refuse transgender patients access to hormone therapy based on how dedicated or convincing their portrayal of their identified gender. If you want to be a man or woman, you’ll have to look like the women and men on TV. If you want to be transgender, you’ll have to look like the trans identified people on TV. Every single one of us who has an active role as either participant or observer in our society is prey to the crisis of validity. Am I pretty enough? Am I strong enough? Am I brave enough? Mom enough? Dad enough? Competitive enough? Successful enough? Rich enough? **** enough? Pious enough? It never ends. We’re, as a nation of people, being crushed and compartmentalized by this ever present lens, looming over us, exploiting our weaknesses and fears so it may grow wider, and support itself as it follows us, seemingly forever into the future. And one of the worst fears this camera of existential torment exploits, in most of us every day, is, “Do I have a reflection?” “What does it look like?” “Do I look like me?” What does it mean to be transgender? I can’t get away from that question. But I don’t have an answer. There are varying degrees of anguish, depression, panic, anxiety, and other wonderful emotional states that creep up on you and breathe down your neck nearly every waking day. Absolute contempt for the lie of a life you’ve lived till now, and contempt for the fragments still stuck to you, in memories, attached to your body and mind. Fear of those in your own community who would purposefully humiliate, invalidate, or attack you, choosing their own universal moral code over the innate urge and capacity to support the health and continued well being of another human. A ******* neighbor. A ******* pupil. A ******* employee. A ******* sister, brother, son, daughter, mother, father, cousin, ******* blood. What is being transgender like? By my experiences, it’s just like being anyone else in the country. But with a lot more fear, death, exclusion and medication.

Fallen Leaves
it is a sea of leaves -- a deep, bottomless, sea of leaves. you can get lost in there, you know. lost like an abandoned child in a city of strangers and lost like when you drive and drive and drive aimlessly, mad, senseless, when your only intent is to get lost and be lost. but this sea of leaves [yes, this vast ocean of leaves on leaves on leaves] this is myself only on the best of days. my mind cannot and will not ever find itself. sanity had been abandoned years before when i came to the realization that nothing really matters too much. and now i am autumn when all of the leaves fall down -- unordered, hysterical, all of the time changing all of the time varying never the same as a moment before. beautiful, but knowing that beauty is impermanent. soon i will be like the tree branches when the leaves have abandoned them. stark, empty, cold. naked, with all of my flaws displayed to the world [with all of my life on the ground.] and i will still be lost. and so incredibly lost in my mind. lost. so let me dive into this deep sea of leaves, 'cause lord knows it is better than being found.

Dear Friends, I had composed this poem in 2008 after reading an article by a Lady Doctor who was a Biologist, and had initially posted it on 'Poemhunter.com'. Hope you will like it! Thanks, - Raj PHYSICS AND CHEMISTRY OF LOVE ! Love’s physics and chemistry, has forever remained a mystery! There are no permanent equations to resolve, Love's unseen wave like force! It travels through three dimensional space, At frequencies higher than electromagnetic waves! It remains unhindered by barriers of cast, creed, or clime, Giving two beating hearts a feel of the divine! It generates a magnetic force field, making two hearts in unison beat! Yet Biologists claim that a chemical called (PEA) Phenylethylamine, - Triggers loves molecules in the human mind! Chocolates are rich in this PEA content they say, And is a perfect gift on the Valentine’s Day! The chemical Dopamine makes the lovers to glow and feel fine, When they live on love and fresh air and may even forget to dine! While Norepinephrine, which stimulates our adrenaline production, Makes the lovers world go round in a joyous motion! But Oxytoxin that 'cuddling chemical',  requires constant contact for its effects to prevail! Cupid’s arrows may be dipped in its pail, Before those arrows on lovers begin to hail! Creating unbearable attraction leading to infatuation, Making two hearts beat as one with love’s magic potion! But such feelings remain for a limited duration, Varying with people with different emotions! In a 'mercurial type' loves ecstasy gets mixed, - And they frequently require a PEA fix! But those who stick to a single mate, Are said to be rich in Vasopressin content! And finally when infatuation gradually subsides, Chemicals triggered by Endorphine slowly overtakes, When calmness and stability with loving bond prevails! This Endorphine is reputed to be rather addictive, And firmly binds those forces released by PEA, - which are rather seductive! (All Copyrights with Raj Nandy of New Delhi)

Utopia Must Be An Invention of the Mind I have searched long and hard, trying to find that place where peace and serenity, in our world may yet grace a chance to meet a dream come true, if only for a few where pain and suffering are gone, and will never renew Then I realized, this Utopia I seek, on a map will not be found still an undiscovered world, whose contemplation will confound finding some comfort, the thought of my soul ascending on high no longer to be troubled, suffering on earth never again to decry A world exists but not for the living, to experience this garden of delight a place where the happiness of life's dreams, will satiate your appetite where fear and worries cease, hope and desire now become your reality trials and tribulations throughout life, ending with that long awaited finality Maybe Utopia really does exists, but only with extreme effort can you hope to say, it you have acquired but most people refuse to commit, unwilling to put in the time and effort that is unquestionably required how mistaken we often are, thinking we can still remain happy, giving up by settling for that much less only up to the point we are once again challenged, and our daily events again cause us all of our stress To understand why so many people never seem to be satisfied, no matter what they have, it is never enough first we must acknowledge the answer might be found in the lies people believe, but most of them are a bluff Utopia must be an invention of the mind, convincing itself that feelings of joy and happiness are close at hand seemingly it might then be prudent to maintain this self-deception, since this is what our egos really demand Although it has been stated time and again that Utopia does not and can not exist, yet we still continue to dream coming to teach us this great lesson in human psychology, how much for happiness' sake, we're willing to scheme yet we can take note to the fact that despite our varying differences, this human condition remains constant in us all our primary need for true happiness is why we can rest assured, invisible Utopia we will forever continue to recall

O Utopia, Utopia, wherefore art thou Utopia?

Between the lines
I lay spread out on  My local shingle beach Letting the pebbles  Sift through my fingers I consider the myriad Shapes and forms they take. The varying rust Charcoal grey and mustard shades I set myself a mission In the multitudes That the sea brings to my feet I will find amongst the  Copious cobbles The ultimate pebble Perfect and pleasingly Quirky or smooth. I become so absorbed by  This sifting sorting  Comforting process  A simple quest I forget myself And my proximity to the waves  Until i am splashed  And soaked and  Have to vow to take up This valiant quest  Another day. Until then I have taken  Home a few shortlisted Candidates And made a promise to stand up when The winner is found And make a little trumpet Fanfare sound And hold the stone aloft!

Myriad (ode to pebbles)
The perfectionist loves to hear his voice, He is the respected critic inside, He is the learned one, The educated and the educator. A beautiful constructor, The finishing touch To the artist's hand. The voice is always a partner, He will always be there to help The artist, comfort is taken in his ability. The artist needn't forget, There are many voices on the side, Awaiting for their time to speak, Each one has its time, All varying in their patience and duration. The artist sees what he hasn't before: The voice of support; the voice of love; the voice of decision; and the voice of passion. There is always time to contemplate his flaws And he wants to reassure himself: Perfection is not a demand, but a quest, One of beauty and one of joy. Perfection is the beauty in imperfection. The pursuit of achievement is one to relish, it is not to be rushed or Ceased, it is a running walk, a walking run, a sitting stand, a moving still. It is every step he has made. The artist looks behind and sees His effort, he is proud to have experienced His triumphs and his trauma The voice of comfort will be there all the way, She is a gentle quieter spirit that deserves as much an ear. When all voices have calmed and subsided, Her tenderness remains. I remind the artist of his friends, I remind him that the critical voice is the voice of nature, The physical laws unchanged. He is the driving force to stasis and movement in the age worry and indecision. "Do not be overwhelmed" I say to the artist, You are one of many. You are with friends. The voice of change encourages the artist to evolve and to smile, The voice of happiness allows peaceful living and awareness. The tiger belongs to nature, not to be feared, but to be respected and understood. Do not despair, do not relinquish hope, Hope is the shining beacon in a world of anguish. Hope is the angel shining her torch ever so bright. Hope is the window that allows pain and suffering to see the light of day , Hope allows oneness. The artist moves his brush: an effortless stroke, A flicker of joy, A tear in his eye. He once was old, Now is young. He learns to enjoy The work he has done, He can now enjoy the work he does, He is enjoying the work he is doing. He enjoys his life. The state of mind, it is a fickle hatchling. Able to be pursued and persuaded, also able to be liberated. The artist is free, His thoughts can pass, His fear will subside, His body can move, His heart will follow And the mind will allow. Spirit be set free, Bird do fly, Artist do paint, You, You are. Peace within oneself is peace with others. The artist is brave, he is a soul that stands tall in the face of adversity, He is a sleepless enigma in his room at night, He is the passionate one, The artist and his love affair with the critic outshines his charisma, The love for the sophisticated darkness, His love for the melodrama, His quest for knowledge, Perhaps the only knowledge is Ignorance. Blissful unawareness.

A poet's supposed to only post poetry If I try to do anything different under a pseudonym They'd know it's me They're not too dim To shine a light on similarity Between two varying laugh tracks despite all the hilarity Been getting down to brass tax with a microscope I could read the fine print even if both my eyes were closed So tie the rope tightly around your own necks As I work far outside of my trajectory from how I make the bow flex If I was Archie mixed with Cupid I would Follow an arrows arc like an archery marksman whose targets are Betty and Veronica's beating hearts And when they get hit, They both fall pretty hard And meet me in my back yard where I get their backs archin' Point is, I've got precision aim When I'm shooting for emotions Make you never feel a thing Make you clear minded and focused Let you all in on my pain Have you buzzin' like a locust

Preface **When the broad mind has opened, to gaze the stars that shinning in the unfathomable skies and the glittering Nature, its flowers’ fragrances given to taste the wealthy realms of her, as well as Earth's mysteries—that I ever think of to feel and by my thoughts that spread so deep to try to work with things that sounds of ‛creative’. Here I the ‛moody soul’ started his first journey, leaving his home  a few years ago and his up-start was through Literature, Science and Arts and Fiction. Writings and paintings here I believed to be most powerful and that those more often need to convey by the Artist’s conscience and the intensity that gains moral knowledge and appreciation. Here the book has the pictorial paths of Quest and the wanderings, all by imagination’s boat, sails from the western Ideas and its enthusiastic flow. Some finds hope along and also hopelessness, God and Love vagabonding among these ink-stained pages. Dreamt in the wandering world where no chains shall bind, from the dark veiled lands to the daring spark, no atoms that obscure the force calling light, to aim the glad precious moments of life, to embrace me with a silence and its whispering magic, where gate of hope’s always open to bliss, thundering words are always from roam, the nocturnal pleasure that I only know, and when all will run away as time—why I alone in the upward steps of solitude that caressing wild only wings? If I met Life as a strange stage of different senses—and I only say you to enjoy the aggressive fruits of my invention. Let not my love be called idolatry, Nor my belovèd as an idol show, Since all alike my songs and praises be To one, of one, still such, and ever so. Kind is my love today, tomorrow kind, Still constant in a wondrous excellence; Therefore my verse to constancy confined, One thing expressing, leaves out difference. “Fair, kind, and true” is all my argument, “Fair, kind, and true” varying to other words; And in this change is my invention spent, Three themes in one, which wondrous scope affords. Fair, kind, and true, have often lived alone. Which three till now never kept seat in one.

Sonnet 105: Let Not My Love Be Called Idolatry
It's been a while. Since I wrote a poem. But not since I wrote about you. I write about you all the time. Every once in a while, I forget why. Then I remember why. I remember you, Or I see a picture. I see your blond hair. Your blue eyes. You're the reason I have a type. I think of your adventure, And your shyness, And your varying range of emotion. I think of all these Random memories, Floating around in my head. Like ping pong. And capture the flag. Like long flaring lights and computer bags. Like fire escapes, And hiding under tables, Like missing you in winter with eyelashes like a fable. Like long walks in the dark, And hidden dark handkerchiefs with white polka dots. Like plaid checkered jackets, even when it's hot. Like cargo shorts and a white fedora. Gathering under the arch like it's an agora. Hiding that handkerchief between the flora. God, I miss you more and more. Months til I see you, I'm down to only a few before. I almost can't wait, It makes me feel sad. The fact that I'd leave, Just like that. Just so I could see you again. It's Valentine's Day And I'm here without you. And I wish more than anything, For that to not be true.

Finally Down to Five
I have been told that a love left untouched will never disappear; that because the corrosive oils from our fingertips have not dissolved its coloring, it will, theoretically, endure perpetually. This love, left in its shrink-wrap casing, looming over the heads of the meek and the caustic feels like a scarlet letter hidden behind the robe, a feeling so foul none are to know but, Oh, what if it begins to fester, there in the moist dark? This worry had been sitting in my stomach, churning with the bile and swallowed blood, coming up acid in my throat; I could feel it radiating out. Thought: it must be nuclear, must be radioactive and glowing, eating through me one layer at a time, but love –this uranium longing– has a half-life. When first the reaction began it boiled and popped like lye on skin, singed off my eyelids so I could not help but see it there. I found myself woozy from the fumes, a high I had never experienced before so I inhaled, let it torch my lungs and leave me gagging. My hair began to fall out. I was soggy from the chemotherapy, tried pumping this bitterness into my bloodstream to remove the evil that already existed there, unaware that they were the same entity. It could not survive on a diet of itself and obsession, and so it began waning. An exponential decay, the intensity of this passion varying directly with the frequency of contact and inversely with time, yet it will never be gone, entirely. It will decrease incrementally every time I say good bye, every time I see scarred knuckles, every time I want and he does not. I have counted the days since the day I counted on him and he was accountable and the number is growing larger and getting more difficult to remember. I have scribbled it onto scraps of paper and it has only browned the edges, no longer burns all the way through, and this love –this radium affair– has been losing its toxicity.

I have counted the days since the day I counted on him and he was accountable and the number is growing larger and getting more difficult to remember. I have scribbled it onto scraps of paper and it has only browned the edges, no longer burns all the way through, and this love –this radium affair– has been losing its toxicity.

This is the mountain I'm climbing Due to circumstantial timing The triumphant peaks change over time Just one of this mountain's many crimes The rocks on this mountain are flawed But the mountain is flawless Nature enforces restrictive laws So my life becomes lawless Through this insanity I can't find my humanity It's gagged and bound In the lost and found On this lonely hill Where I get my fill It's an uphill battle Getting above this mountain My conscience rattles My eyes pour like a fountain When I see everything suddenly Like halos hovering Over my past Lying dead in the grass Sometimes I must traverse a log to go over a bog Then I must do the inverse to go under the smog There are countless endeavors Through varying weather That leave me very confused And frantically panicked This mountain provides a view Of the entire planet This mountain made of dust I scale because I must Stillness develops rust When cliffs await us I see dead pioneers on the ground I see weary travelers all around I see fellow climbers as brothers Unless I see them as a lover Then I want to go cave exploring Before my grave ends the story Things should get weird If banality is to be feared In order to make a mark Even if it's in the dark To be perfectly candid This mountain is my canvas I carve my face in it as I go up But my face changes as I grow up So I start swag jacking The backpacking Mirror macking Confidence lacking Mountain attacking Climbers So I can find a crevasse to fit into This mountain is easy to give in to

*Between the night and daylight,      As twilight begins to shower, Comes a lull in the day's preparations,      Cherished as the Kittys' Hour. I hear in the kitchen beside me,      The patter of tiny feet, Rumbles of varying motors      With "meow's" gentle and sweet. Leaping from counter with agile grace      On my shoulder with a purr; Sail grave Thomas and sweet Lady Jane,      And Susan of golden fur. A "meow," and then a long silence,      I know by mischievous eyes, They are scheming and musing together,      To vanquish my weary sighs. With sudden dash from the hallway,      Tortie bounds into my arms! Felines of all colours sit starring,      Delighting me with their charms. Frolicking with skillful ease,      Tossing and batting their catnip-mouse; If I run to escape, they surround me,      They appear to overflow the house. Suffocating me with their kisses,      Furry paws patting my face; And though they have torn the kitchen blinds,      They dazzle me with their grace. I hug you all close in loving arms,      And will n'er let you depart, Nor ****** you dears out to coyotes,      For you each have won my heart. And here shall you dwell forever,      Cherished more each golden day; Till this glad house fall into ruin,      And I in dust shall decay.*                  ~Hilda~

The Kittys' Hour.
The teacher's eyes gathered colours about The cultured garden scene she knew so well; She likes the section flowers nicely sprout Her hidden world where varying colours jell. Achievers pride she takes with all her heart; Like outstanding pupils she proudly groomed. But scrappy lazy ones, never seems to start, She wished them luck and left alone to bloom. The sun regardless shines on all juniors. The bright ones, the brats she pitied a lot. Through years and wise by age she remembers, Oft visiting her those she had forgot, Those she loved and cared have whittled away. But strugglers now trees they weathered to stay.

The Teacher; Sonnet #9
THE SAXOPHONE STORY BY RAJ NANDY The Saxophone is perhaps the most expressive instrument next to the human voice. Was made by Adolphe Sax, a Belgian, through a deliberate choice! He wanted to offset the tonal disparity, - Between the string, wind, and brass instruments, with musical clarity ! He felt that the strings ones were overpowered by the wind instruments. While the wind instruments got overblown by the brass ones instead ! Now what would happen if the best qualities of these three instruments types, Could in a fusion blend and coalesces into a single instrument type ? So finally at the age of 20 years, in March Eighteen Hundred and Thirty Four, Adolphe Sax created a magical instrument for the World to hear and adore! It had the power of the brass, the flexibility of the strings, and the woodwind’s variety and tone; Which got christened after Adolphe Sax as the SAXOPHONE ! Adolphe’s famous composer friend Hector Berlioz in Paris City, Gave this new instrument wide publicity! In 1844 the Sax was presented in the Industrial Exhibition at Paris; And subsequently got patented on 20 March 1846. It soon got adopted by the Bands of the French Army. Making other instrument makers to become green with envy! The Sax was 80 years old when it became part of the musical instruments of the Jazz Band. A small bore mouth piece was created to suite the varying tonal qualities required by Jazz. Initially, 14 different sizes of Sax was created by Adolphe. Today only five types are in use for us to hear and see; The Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass and the Baritone Saxophone. They now form a part of our Jazz music's backbone! - By Raj Nandy FOOT NOTES : Adolphe Sax (1814-1894) , son of famous musical instrument maker Charles Joseph Sax of Belgium. Woodwind Instruments = Flute, Clarinet, Bassoon etc. Brass Instruments = Trumpet, Tuba, Cornet etc. String Instruments = Violin, Guitar, Harp, Banjo etc. The Saxophone today has become the very backbone of Jazz Music! ** ALL COPY RIGHTS ARE RESERVED BY: - RAJ NANDY **

They say grief comes in waves varying in size and intensity; some start small, moving silently, might seem harmless but engulf me within no time and I was never taught how to swim. Thrashing and flailing in the water I find it difficult to breathe. The seas of sadness pull me far into their abyss where there is no light or hope to get out of the misery; sometimes even that feels enticing and comforting. On other days these waves come roaring loud in the ears, threatening to steal my ground away from me, often I brave to surf over them with the help of distractions and they recede, scheming to gulp me down later. Wonder how I end up on these shores every time while on a train or on my bed, in a classroom or in a conference hall, amongst the crowded streets and when alone, memories of yesterday strewn like sea shells lead me to the waters and I can always hear their elegies. And when the moon shines its brightest on them, you get to see the scene of tranquillity but deep inside my heart there is a storm brewing slowly that takes various names every season, maybe there is one named after you too, who knows. Do you want to come with me down to the ocean of tears? We could let those waves kiss our feet while we watch the sunset together, I will tell you all my stories and you could share yours too. I hope you know how to swim.

Loving someone is a confusing task. Its that point of time when people don't really understand what they are upto. Maybe its because, when we fall in love, we are not only driven by the modern world instincts, but also by traits which we've inherited from our earliest ancestors. Its an amalgam of varying emotions resulting from numerous hormones. We get involved in the act of love either to enrich out lives or to generate lives...its all logic. However, the simplest act of expressing or explaining this strange feeling, appears to be a mammoth task for most. We call it 'love' just like we call God 'God', but its just a verbal pronunciation for things we don't understand, for things which are much greater than just the words... We say 'I love you' but we mean so much more, even the most beautiful poems cannot possibly explain it properly. Hundreds of letters written by a lover cannot compensate for the lover in person, 10000 words cannot compensate for a simple gesture or an act of love. Words are just sounds which transmit thoughts from one mind to the other, But in order to touch the deepest core of the brain, which is the heart, one must go way beyond the thoughts, way beyond those 10000 words.

The scuff of sneakers, boots and flats form the solid and stable beat. Add in the chuckles, silences and brief interruptions to create the varying and rhythm. All that remains is what goes unsaid but is speeding around in your mind. That man from Uzbekistan, He was telling us how peace and non-violence starts with us, With middle-schools, with teens, with future leaders To all those who laugh, when I say violence is never the answer, You're the ones I worry about That man from Uzbekistan, He was speaking to us about how the kids had a parliament in Uzbekistan Those kids had a say in what their fate would be Believe it or not, But adults are not the only things to make up our society... Infants, toddlers, 5th graders, 8th graders, 11th graders, seniors, the diseases make up us, us.. So maybe parents shelter us too much, or not at all. And kids throw fits in the grocery store While teenagers attempt to jump off the nearest bridge This is our society.. But we're like those kids in Uzbekistan We have a say in what our fate will be That man from Uzbekistan, He was sharing out how blessed he was to be living here in the United States Even though he could live in a much more peaceful and welcoming society. I have no idea how many years i will be, Or what has to happen before we get the message across.. That's what's played out isn't acceptable The American people, Were baffled, devastated, overwhelmed That all those stereotypes really were mixed within us. Obama stood up in that room With a shaky camera man, staring while he slumped and grieved He addressed our nation, Homeland, Country Community Family About Newtown, Clackamas Town Center No leader should ever be forced to speak about children dying long before there time was up Or about average people ducking and diving from bullets Gun Control is only a little layer And that's the start of our restoration to end up being a peaceful, safe country It begins with how youth are shown how to solve problems. I'm willing to reach my hand out to every single state in this country And if that means devoting everything I've got to making our restoration successful, Then so be it.. No leader or person should be raising candles to the sky for little kids to see that they are missed. And I took all of this in at a Lebanese Luncheon

Earlier today, I laid outside atop the snow, A feat that I haven't tried Since life's true colors showed. The frost numbed my body, I'm sure red flushed into my cheeks; I stared speculatively at the sky, My eyes searched and seeked. I wanted to understand the beauty, That nature offers so readily, the solace, That it blankets us in even on cold days; I wanted to understand beauty that is flawless. My tired eyes embraced small, soaring figures That coursed through the air with grace; Content to go their own paths, Not engaged in a petty race. The figures were falcons, That spiraled and sailed on wind above me, Probably heading south, For warmth to set them free. But in that moment I compared them To man-produced ashes; Gray soot that courses through the air Dashes, in varying directions, As fire burns. In that moment, the birds drifted through the air So aimlessly, like the ashes do, Landing faraway, Wherever they flew. Nature itself could be ashes, If people continue on this path; This destruction ought to incur Some sort-of wrath.
