"kwanzaa" poems
December is a time when most people celebrating
Whether it be Christmas
Kwanzaa
Hanukkah
Or whatever it is you celebrate
For me it's a cruel reminder of what January brought
A warning I ignored until it was all too late
We spent everyday together all month long
But after December passed and January came....
I got a call and that was that
Death took him away
On that cold January fifth
Three years ago

I wish you all Happy Holidays, a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, Festivus, Yule etc. Whichever tradition you follow, the heart of the celebration is the same. It's about rebirth (among the other good things like family and compassion and healing), the mystery of new things by some miracle born of old. We're told that we are supposed to be happy, that to not be cheerful this day is miserly and selfish, it's implied that if we aren't feeling perfect then we should fake it for people, that we should fake happiness so our loved ones can be genuinely happy by not seeing our sadness. But this is a hard, sad time for many of us, no matter how hard we try to be hopeful. I wish that I could really believe, rather than just hope, that the old world, the world of xenophobia and hatred, so many acts of violence and horror that I can't even keep track of them all...I wish that I could be sure that the world is being renewed by a higher power. In the face of so much, it may seem that you're just a small person, in a small place, with small problems and small gifts and a small heart, and this whole thing is a worthless gesture. Well, it isn't...this isn't just an accident, we're not just flotsam in a nameless, faceless mass of humanity with no real purpose and no value. Everything matters, and every day we have a chance to make a difference, every day we are given opportunities to be a part of miracles. All of us have the power to reach out and touch another person, to give hope instead of taking it away. There really is a better world out there, and every positive act, every genuine smile, every gentle word and every courageous stand against hatred brings us closer. And finally, a Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night, and if I wake up tomorrow to find that all my appliances have come to life and burst into song and a gaggle of short bearded guys expecting food and talking about some kind of stolen gold and dragons and crap, I may just have to start taking things a little more seriously ;)

*I have nothing to wish
for Christmas cheer
as the world is in tears.
The only thing I will ask
and wish for you and for me
is peace around the world.
For all humanity.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Winter Solstice, Bod-hi Day ,Hanukkah , d al-Adha , Kwanzaa.
I am sure I have missed some cultural, ethnic and religious celebrations at this time of year. But the idea I want to express and project is we are all humans no matter what and I wish you all the best and peace and happiness in your present and or future life.
God Bless and Peace Out.*

First I'd like to say Merry Christmas
Happy Hannukah, And Kwanzaa, and happy New year, this time I wanna do something different
Or, if you will, present a twistmas to the happy holiday of Christmas.
See, I'm from the isle of misfit toys
yes it's real, I wouldn't lie Girls and boys
So this year on this holiday
all the misfits like us should be praised instead of betrayed today
So give to those people out in the streets
beside the beleaguered believers of the salvation army
to those people outside just looking for change
give to them too. time, money, whatever you can spare on the brain
And to the quiet kid in school who has trouble at home
invite them over for dinner, don't make them feel alone
This is Christmas, the happiest time of the year
but I'd like to present a twistmas, so that all are held dear.

If you’re looking for yuletide cynicism here,
you’re shopping in the wrong place.
This is New York City’s time of year.
It’s stood the test of time and it fairly sparkles,
proving that the ordinary can be extraordinary.
With the right lighting.
Lisa’s (parent’s) apartment glitters like our promised heaven on high.
When we left at Thanksgiving, Michael (Lisa’s dad) had the concierge
service stressed, toting boxes of decorations up from their storage area.
When I waved my goodbyes, he appeared to be wrestling an octopus of
cool-white fairy lights into submission. Now everything glitters pyrite bright.
Our holiday time is limited—and this is our chance to unwind—so we’re
selective about what we decide to embrace. For instance, there was a sale
at Michael Kors where, no big deal, I got a pair of brogue, black
leather wingtips that’ll be straight fire with a little black dress.
The bargains were so good that I decided the store must be a drug front.
Not that I’m complaining. Do I ever complain? Nope, I’m stoic.
Like Eric Adams, the mayor of New York, Lisa and I’ve
been “testing the product” of Manhattan's club scene.
We’re searching diligently for the new and unfamiliar.
When it comes to picking which clubs we want to visit,
Charles, our driver and escort (a retired NYPD cop),
has gone as far as to suggest, we’re “out of our depth,”
and refused to let us even try one or two DJ’d, pop-up clubs
in Queens that were getting a lot of heat and likes.
“Roosevelt Avenue is the new 42nd Street,” he’d said.
What does that even mean??
Indignant silence
Anyway,
I hope Christmas finds you all merry and bright and that your holidays—whichever you celebrate— are carnivals of food, music, friendship and love—for those are the luxuries that count the most.
Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukkah! Merry Kwanzaa, Happy Festivus!

Winter is here
Yet it is not yet Christmas
Not yet Winter Solstice
Nor Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or the Essene New Year!
It is snowing in my heart
It feels like winter.
It must be winter!
Sitting, being warmed by the fire
Comforted by the touch of soft fur
Fur Babe, Habibie, I love you
Remembering
Aaron's, Stephan's, Connors, Kevin's, Maria's birthdays
Singing with the Christmas Choir
Silver Bells and Deck the Halls
Evergreen trees, popcorn garland
Snowman soup
Gingerbread Cookies hung
On the boughs with red and green ribbons
Sharing gifts, laughter, hugs and joy
Christmas morning stockings
Filled with an orange, cinnamon roll
A few simple pleasures
Pass the Ibarra, please....
Why all the fuss? Continue to keep it simple!
Wrapped up in my fuzzy, two sided warm blanket
The comfort of my kitten and tears
Lifting my heart from my feet
Yes, it is still in one piece.
Finding the Christmas Cards and notes to write.
Creating, to celebrate those close to us
It is time to create new memories
And keep the Holiday Spirit alive.

Let's wax poetic - wax on..
We’re in for it
When we enter
the insubstantial country of love
That secret theater, in an invisible mansion of moods
it’s a resort that houses its share of speechless monologues and sore disappointments, all lovers know that, but there are infinite discoveries too—secret, intimate delights and sensual confidences.
Ok, wax off.
My horoscope this morning said, “any tension you’re experiencing now is just part of the process.”
Peter (my bf), flew in last night. When we’re separated too long, remembering him, remembering us, can at times, seem like a memory exercise and I find myself wondering if I’m wasting my bikini years on a handshake deal. Then we’re reunited and bam, I’m reminded why it’s a ‘dub-u, dub’ again.
He’s a delectation—in a Christmas bauble kind of way—shiny and dangerous because I want to touch him—but not be loud or showy about it. Leeza (Lisa’s 14-year-old sister) whispered to me, when I was getting some ice, “You watch him with the too-still poise of a cat about to strike.” I smiled at the complement because I love cats.
Every once in a while I’ll pinch him, to make sure he’s real. “Oww! Stop that!
“What?!” I ask, pulling back as if innocently confused.
I got him a room at the Marriott Essex House. It’s 400 feet down W59th from Lisa’s building entrance to the front door of his hotel. I measured it off, with urgent steps—then I helped him unpack. We unpacked a lot.
Later, we joined Dave and Lisa for a Christmas light tour—Manhattan’s flexing its wow-factor for us.
I didn’t get to sit on Santas lap this year, I’m a little old for that,
but I did get what I wanted most—I’m sure I’m grinning like an idiot.
It’s not quite Christmas yet, but thanks, Santa.

Christmas, hanukkah, kwanzaa, new year's eve.
All the holidays that make you believe.
Belief in family, community, hope, love, and joy
That magical time
you can feel happiness
when a child receives a new toy.
Whatever you celebrate,
Whether you light a candle, menorah, or tree,
I wish for happy holidays for you and your family.

It's Kwanzaa day
So let's all be happy today
And we'll stop and pray to
To our loved ones today
And all I want for Kwanzaa day is for you all to be safe and truly loved
On this special day
And we'll
Hold hands tight brothers and sisters
It’s time for us to unite
And we'll celebrate Kwanzaa day and
We are all grateful to our ancestors for teaching us about the true
And special meaning of
Kwanzaa day.

Thought I was astute
in getting me covid jab
in health institute
by mod science lab
what better place
to stand 'gainst zeitgeist
to turn me face
'gainst self-'claimed christs
who wax livid
'gainst the vaccine
in language vivid
profanities obscene
i'd display responsibility
like Kwanzaa festivity,
self-determination
in joining the nation
so i rolled up me sleeve
like a silver-pipe ******
steeled self to receive
gave 'em carte blanche
closed me eyes tight
as i insinuate
"do your worst!
this ain't me first"
now me arm's aching
i feel so poor
my whole body's shaking
'n me shoulder's so sore
now I'm a-thinking
i was wise as a coot
in going unblinking
to health-institute!

Yes, it is Christmas
not everybody is celebrating
Yes, it is Chanukah
Yes, Kwanzaa will soon be upon us
While others rival in their family, friends, and their annual traditions
Others are having a tough time getting through for them an ordinary day
Please remember them today and always
