Shadow Memories
Sarah Marshall Mar 2016
So alone
so lost in this world of longing.
I can't breathe- oh how heavy my chest is,
how heavy my burden.
How can I shed my cloak?
Flee these tormenting shadows?
He was all I had.
He was my hope.
We built our dreams,
we built our future.
He knew my limits
and he threw it all away.

Shadows,
they are whats become of me-
fading from the sunlight,
melting into memory.
Dedicated to a those who had a long-term relationship ended by an unfaithful partner.

The secrets you hold
you hold so dear
are eating you
from the inside

You cannot bear
to tell the truth
so bear the pain
you brought unto you

little do you know
i know the truth
and the truth pains you
and still my lips stay pursed

Different
Sarah Marshall Mar 2016
She is as alone
as a tree in a rain forest.

I am as alone
as a cactus flower in a desert.

She is different
because of her friends.

I am different
because I am myself.

Moving On
Sarah Marshall Mar 2016
Old memories
but time to
make some more.
Hesitant to move on,
because the Future
makes no guarantee.
Happy memories
to linger on
but the Future
is persistent
so we move on.
For after that break up, or friend loss, or while grieving.

Valentines Day
Sarah Marshall Mar 2016
Happy valentines day
my love,
although you're far away
I'll send this to you by dove.

I miss you
and I can't wait to see your face
I hope you miss me too
how our meeting day comes with such slow pace.

Happy Valentines Day
my love,
and I just have to say
too bad I don't own a dove.

Nightmare
Sarah Marshall Mar 2016
My life is a dream,
so when I dream
it's a dream within a dream.

I see my angel
soft feathered wings
and a bright white smile.

I like to imagine
that its the face of God
visiting me in my only solace.

But each night, when I smile back
the dream shatters
and I waken to my living nightmare.

Night sky all around
Sarah Marshall Mar 2016
On my nightly stroll
I glance up at the moon
Shining like a white hot coal.
Reflecting lake, I see the sky-
Above, below, and all around.
Growing up, I felt a strange connection to the moon. I loved night walks. this poem was written to remind me of those nights.

Sweet, Sweet Grandma
Sarah Marshall Mar 2016
Sweet grandma
Brush my hair
Sing me a lullaby
To put me fast asleep.

Sweet grandma
Feed me
Clothe me
Keep me warm and content.

Sweet grandma
Take me places
Buy me souvenirs
Show me the world.

Sweet grandma
Show me love
Show me peace;
Show me you.

Sweet grandma
Show me-
Show me your love
For that is all I really need.
To those who love their grandma. My grandma was my caretaker when I was between the ages of 6-10.

Serenity
Sarah Marshall Mar 2016
water laps
at my feet,
gentle tides
ever rolling.
this place is my solace, my lullaby.
i come here by day
or even night.
when i am away
my mind is a jumble.
when i am here
things awry, become right.
i love it here
for a million reasons.
the water laps
at my feet.
gentle tides
rolling in,
and i am at peace
once again.

Breaking
Sarah Marshall Mar 2016
My heart is breaking
I thought it had already broken
I thought the damage was done
but my heart feels like an open wound
bleeding, pulsing, and hurting.
The pain continues on,
the confusion and tears blur my sight
my mind is foggy
and I yearn to give up the fight.
My hopes are dying
I've lost my drive
I've lost my light
and there is no end in sight.
For those of you who've suffered or are suffering depression, hang in there.
