safe streets
Eli Seth Salazar Nov 2014
I've been out here so long
Under stars that lost there shine
 I'm going crazy
as kids with pistols shout hands up and another modest man loses his sense of safety

restroom tiles

The lines in between the green are full of dirt and human feces, but I find comfort.
Yellow, bright as the sun, but they don't blind me.
Red, hot with anger and hate, but they don't burn me.
Grey, fading to a dim, cold, colorless stone and yet is still my silver lining

No matter how many times you try to ignite the fire, the flame will not kindle without a spark to the fuel.
A gas as thin as air, and as invisible as emotions.
A spark to arouse the very atom of the fire
a spark at the right time, at the right spot.
a spark such as the one we felt when our eyes met for the very first time.

to have you wrapped around my finger tips. of all things to transpire, his heart is yours and your heart is his.

was it too much to ask for?
Eli Seth Salazar Nov 2014
Body, mind, and soul.
could anyone ask for more?
You were unfaithful
you were a waste of my time
I could not be more happy to be rid of you
I could not be more sad to have even loved you

I stand there at the edge of the road, they're all going somewhere, and I stand at the edge of the road.
Watching them pass me by. One step forward and my life ends, one step back and a new life begins.
where I will go is determined by each step in either direction, and where I have been has left an imprint by the aging of my skin

Morning sicknesses
Eli Seth Salazar Nov 2014
Another sweet dream stolen from me
        the morning bare no sympathy
Each day i awake the same
Not eager at all to play this game
A happy face I'm told to wear
I brush my teeth and comb my hair
Longing to return to my paradise
For Even just one last hour would be safice
Eli Seth Salazar Nov 2014
For days I'm forced to travel with a mind full of sorrows to call my own,
Through the night I choose to linger with a spirit full of eager and hopefulness to journey home, I'll journey home

The danger is in my hands.
the danger is at the end of my cigarette.
the danger is in my head,
the thought am I better off dead

For years I've walked in shadows,  like a wise man I chose to follow the setting sun through the great unknown
I've never been scared of death, but now as it slightly burns and haunts my breath I have a new respect for life and it's endless sorrows
Death as my enemy I'll keep close my dear friend Letting go is never easy

Dear Arlen
Eli Seth Salazar Nov 2014
I am new to this site and when I saw your work I was excited!  You wrote in one of your poems
"I try to remember you,
Through the cold memories.
I try to forgive you,
Of all the forgeries."
This line is exactly how I felt about someone but could never really find the perfect words to describe it and there it is! Keep up the good work :)

lost in thought
Eli Seth Salazar Nov 2014
I am lost. But is being lost such a horrible concept?
I am lost. There is no path in sight, but I am not stranded.
I am lost. Legs weighted with burden grow stronger with every step.
I am lost. At this point in life it is nice to loose your sense of direction.
I am lost. But is being lost such a horrible concept?

a clouded memory
Eli Seth Salazar Nov 2014
A dream so vivid yet clouded.
This dream laid dormant trapped in its own prison.
scarred, my mind shrouded itself from the cruel world
I curl up in the fetal position
an innocent feeling such that I don't feel safe to curl out of
Here I go, off to live another day, knowing you are still out there.

to the man in the hat
Eli Seth Salazar Nov 2014
To the man in the hat on the side of the road, tell me dear sir how far did u go?
Where do u come from?
what is your name?
Tell me dear sir what was your aim?
You say your aim was freedom and that you flew too close to the sun.
it doesn't even matter where anybody comes from.
As for your name you say it is not one to boast, for it is too common, my name young traveler, sadly,  is hope.

birthright
Eli Seth Salazar Nov 2014
I was born into this.
I was born into this family of music makers.
From the moment I could hear from my mother's womb, my ears were bombarded with singing and the sweet sound of music.
  I was born into this.
I was born into this family full of talent.
what if I wanted to be a doctor?
What if I was supposed to be a healer?
  I was born into this.
I was born into this family that teaches their young that music is life, and all around us. And because I was born into this family, I didn't stand a chance.

busser
Eli Seth Salazar Mar 2015
I see you as I'm cleaning tables.
I try not to make eye contact,  you feel my presence. I can't help myself, I'm drawn to you, Like a child drawn to the jingle of keys. A feeling this strong is not foreign, but I question it. I've never fallen in love so quickly, sorta like i was struck down by lighting. At first sight! how cliché... I clean tables near you just to get closer, the check is on the table! I haven't got much time! You stand up, take your last sip of water, place the glass cup ever so gently on it's coaster.  I'm frozen in fear, I can not move, I can not speak. Helplessly, I watch as u walk out the door. My heart, it breaks, but then again who could love a busser anyways.
This actually happened while I was bussing tables at red lobster,  I felt so helpless and it made/ruined my whole day

Your own reality is based on how the birds sing at night, faint little voices calling your name, take this day and build a city at the edge of your delusions, the tree tops seem to be the only level minded creatures

Who said life gets any easier
We just get used to the hard times
Take the good where you can get it
And take the bad just as it comes
Oh it comes

Or you could spend your time having fun
Laying out in the sun
You could take slow as you go
Enjoying every moment

Roll the windows down
Light me another one
They wont catch us now
Driving 90 on the freeway

Oh you could spend your time having fun
Laying out in the sun
You could take slow as you go
Enjoying every moment

Roll the windows down
Light me another one
Take the good where you can get it
They wont catch us now
Enjoying every moment

Left for dead on the side of the road no one to Identify me, I'm no one to claim. A letter placed in my jacket reads a soulful man with nothing to his name but a heart full of love and a past full of shame

gentle man
Eli Seth Salazar Nov 2014
I am a man who must be poor
For the whole picture to come through
I am a man who must  poor to find the words to say
I am a man who must be poor to understand... what it is to be a gentle man
