We need water
We need food
We need exercise
We need support
But we
Want a partner
Want a new television
Want a new car
Want a new video game
Want a new house
Want a new phone
But we don't need them. Maybe the phone depending on circumstance
But most of it we don't need
Very few things we actually really need
To be realistic about it all

I want to kiss you.
It sometimes physically hurts not to kiss you.
I don't want to look into your eyes,
because I don't want to see the confusion in them.
I don't want to explain myself.
I just want to feel your breathing on my face as
my lips fit onto yours.
I want to slip my thumb
under the line of your jaw,
and tip your head back,
to expose your beautiful, long neck.
I want to run the tip of my nose along it
and to hear nothing but our breathing.
Sometimes I look at that face and
it's like I've been hypnotized,
my greatest desires want to come out.
I want to kiss you sweet god in another life
I would kiss you.
And then afterward,
press a soft hand to your lovely head
and wash the memory from it.

Dance with me.
Leave me be!
Never loved you!
Honey what did I do?
I love you.
I need you.
Your my other half.
Forever.
**** that.
Forever.
Honestly I'd rather have never.
Bye.
Don't come to me and cry.
Just go away.
You've already killed me too many times.
I don't want you back ever.
Go away!
One day we will all wake up and it'll be a dream.
Up down...

You focus your attention to things I don't see
Intransingent you are to me
You never said yes or no, always maybe
We're two branches that won't meet on this tree
There's nothing I can give but my specialty
I thought you like a little of my recipe
But you just ignored when I offered coffee
Now I know what you like-  it is the tea
From that floating resto-bar at the sea
I am not a *******, I can see
It is best to not expect, just let it be
Intransingent: refusing to agree or compromise;inflexible
*******: a fool

*I am talking here with my "wants" and expectations, not to a person.

Can we rest on the clouds?
With the world at our feet,
Your presence is all that I need.

Can we talk for hours?
With open ears and hearts?
I don’t want to be judged for my damaged parts.

Can we make love?
With music taking lead?
I only wish to give you all of me.

Can we forget the past?
With our broken hearts and lost years?
I now know I want you...know that I care.

Can I plant my lips on yours?
With my eyes wide open?
I want to see you, feel you, with passion too potent.

A person who wants nothing never can be bought
A person who won't fight never can be fought
A person who doesn't lie never can be caught
A person who won't play the game never can be used
A person who dosen't cheat will always pay his dues
A persons who never thinks can never have any views
A person who dosen't care what you think will never leave you confused
A person who has nothing they will never lose
So never judge another until you step into his shoes

She stared at the six little pills in her hand

one to be skinny
one to be pretty
one to be smart
one to be funny
one to be happy
one to be perfect.

She took them one by one,
feeling them slip down her throat.

at last, she finally felt
skinny
pretty
smart
funny
happy
perfect.

little did she know,
none of these things mattered anymore
for these things she once wanted
now were the things that killed her.

Please thing's in life not love.
Damian Murphy Feb 2016
What no one really wants or needs
Is one who really wants and needs.
That you want, not need them really
Is what they need and want really.
To be wanted more than needed
Is what's wanted, what is needed.
All want to know, need to really
Who wants more than needs us really.

When you’ve had enough
Of maniacs and hustlers,
Of fakes and phonies
And smooth talking hucksters
It’s time to pull back
And sort through the weeds
To find the flowers
And see what you need.

Not what you want,
That’s something different.
If your needs aren’t met
Life can get belligerent.
You need breath and water
And some other great stuff
Or you stop living a lot
And that is rather rough.

Once we move from needs
The rest are all your wants
And you can live without them
Despite all your rowdy taunts.
How many times have you heard
I need coffee when I wake up?
That is a case of your want
That comes in a handy cup.

Or, I need to buy cigarettes
But that isn’t really true.
You don’t think you’ll die without
I mean, not really, do you?
Or, I need some ice cream now
Or a cruller or two or three.
That doesn’t sound fatal
Unless you do that daily.

So, the best thing you can do
For your one and only body
Is to try your best to keep
The thing from getting shoddy
By separating the things
That your body best deserves
And realize that ignoring wants
Does nothing but get on nerves.

With that clearing of your head
And setting of new priorities
The Big Things of the day
Turn into pesky minorities.
Suddenly you see that you
Can choose who to ignore
And then see what you need
And need for nothing more.
