Lowercase Dec 2015
All those irregular verbs
and the difference between au and de la;
Vocabulary forever just out of reach
and trying to wrap my tongue around foreign vowels.
Baby, that’s what loving you feels like
because I’m not fluent in whatever language this is
so all I know how to say is I love you;
How you make me feel is a universe beyond the observable
and I’m trying to cram stardust into three old words.

Outerspace is my only liberation
To break these chains that hold me earthbound
I am a prisoner of this soil
These green eyes wilt
And the light inside dies
These lungs choke on the smog
Of these dusty streets
Give me up to the sky
The only place where my wings are free
And I can fly

Against the sky is the Pillar of Light
Hands outstretched ready at our open backs
Milky Way our Guardian of the night
Is everything that our world hereby lacks

Tentative to show its face to our eyes
The Red Moon peeks out behind a curtain
For a few minutes it will socialize
Of our humanity it is certain

Along the line our lineage has crossed
Stardust lingers in the blue of our veins
Our existence was very nearly lost
Resilient Stardust helps us remain

So you see that we are made of star stuff
Because being human was not enough
Wrote this for a Language Arts Project. It's still a work in progress but I thought I would share.

Do not fall in love with Astrophysicists
We will tell you that
Your eyes glimmer like the stars
you have galaxies swimming in your veins
That your words sound like the spinning of a world around a sun
That the planet recently discovered dwarfs
In comparison to you
And that you are our universe
And when we are gone
You will never be able
To look up
Ever again
i Dec 2014
you are the universe
and i'm not even a star,
your eyes like galaxies,
i'm completely lost.

Past presidents
Speaking of which
Did you know
They are aliens now
Little green men
Just kept in a wallet
Instead of outer space
Or a secret government base
Another humorous one.

We came as an elegy enthralling your environment,
Our eyes, kaleidoscopic, intensified by the blazing sun,
Wet from the mid-autumn rain, we smelled like your returning
memories on a rainy Sunday morning,
Rapid heartbeats and racing pulses,
We took you away with us,
Enough, you suffered enough!
We'll close your system and open your boundaries beyond mortality

She was unlike any celestial body I've ever seen
She flew like a comet
But shined like the sun
Eyes like spiral galaxies
and a voice that filled the endless void
Beauty like gravity drawing you in
Personality like a super nova
She was my outer space
Now I'm just left staring at the stars

i had dreams of meeting outer space
running laps around the rings
alien murmurs like whispered sweet nothings
snorting cosmic dust
leads to
eyes that grow like eclipses
starlight sticking to my skin
initials carved in moon rocks
hurled through the stars like a telegraph service
it wasn't until i met you
that i felt the gravitational pull
it was you holding me to the earth
i didn't mind
suddenly space felt empty
it was small and you were vast
i pulled my head out of the clouds
and laid it on your chest
your eyes shone with the glitter of the cosmos
putting the twinkling stars to shame
black holes were filled
in me and in the universe
i stopped yearning for the undisturbed quiet
the minute i heard your heartbeat
through thin fabric and skin
and as cold as it was above the atmosphere
it was no comparison to the cold felt
when your body was away from mine
similar to how the moon would feel
should the sun ever cease to shine on it
the chill of unprepared absence
you became the center point
a bouquet of warmth and light
and life on earth
without you
was no longer possible

I went and shot down a star today
Watched it zoom right past the moon
It nudged by Mars and asteroids
and it slammed straight into Neptune
I laughed as all the sparks flew down
They fell past some clouds in the sky
While beholding this amazing sight
I thought, “Who would want to die?”
Not everything is so impossible
Everyday less becomes improbable
As long as your brain functions
your imagination is unstoppable
So much has been accomplished
from so many creative minds
Airplanes cruise faster than sound
and some cars can stop on a dime
We possess instant communication,
keeping in touch with all in relation
to maybe take them on vacation
containing multiple destinations
There’s so much to still be done
Have you floated past the sun
in a brand new, shiny rocket ship
while playing with your son?
Maybe someday you’ll be viewed
in a slideshow within a room
packed with friends and family
laughing because it’s so cute
to see you live out every dream
as you smile the entire time
They can see the whole universe
as they look directly in your eyes
