Tears scar
my fevered
red face
as I rage
against
these
unites states.

Pillars of pain
pushed to the point
of bullets and
blood stained
t-shirts.

To young,
to run
far enough
away
that day,

Now politicians
send thoughts and
prayers
but that is
much too little
to even be late.

The media
garners
silent stares
of inaction
while anonymous
internet commenters
call grieving parents
crisis actors.

facebook posts
of dividing positions
put friends in
combative opposition.

I would like
to be fair and neutral,
but the roots
run red and deep
as this dark sea of grief
rises from its sedated state.

So,
I keep on asking
how many more children
have to die
before people do
something right.

A boy goes to school

And tears his schoolmates apart

With metal piercing bullets

This is normal now.

ANOTHER SHOOTING IN AMERICA
WHAT CAN WE ALL DO
MORE INNOCENT LIVES TAKEN
NOT REALLY  ONE BUT A FEW

A 17 YEAR OLD YOUNG MAN
WITH A DEEPLY TROUBLED PAST
THOUGHT THAT TO TAKE THESE LIVES
IN HIS HEART NOW REMORSE WILL LAST

300 HUNDRED MILLION GUNS
ARE IN THE AMERICAN GREAT NATION
IN THE HANDS OF TROUBLED CITIZENS
GUNS WERE NOT GODS CREATION

WHICH PRESIDENT WILL FINALLY
TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR MANKIND
AND STOP HIDING BEHIND GUN CONTROL
AND LEAVE ALL THIS DEATH BEHIND

STOP THE GUNS AND BRING PEACE TO LIVES AFFECTED BY THESE SENSELESS KILLINGS
AMERICA CAN LAUNCH A ROCKET TO MARS WITH A CAR IN THE NOSE AND SPEND NEALY 1.4 TRILLION ON DEFENSE BUDGET BUT CANT STOP THE KILLINGS OF YOUNG INNOCENT LIVES YOUR PRIORITIES ARE ALL WRONG
the 19th SCHOOL shooting in the USA in 48 days

the gun lobby is lying low
the president
     surprise
avoids a straight comment

17 school children dead
because in the land of the free
any psychopath can buy
a semiautomatic without problems
and vent his frustrations and fears
in a shooting spree

home schooling is on the rise
for better or worse

what do you call a president
who is unwilling
    or unable
    to protect
the health and security
of his people?

LOSER!!!

The Game…by Jessie 4/06

Jessie was a quick draw; Learned when he was young
Swore he’d never fear a man, first he’d touched a gun
Made his name, by the age of twelve
After shooting two old men
One of them his father
The other just for grins
Every time he shot a man
Another notch, was on his belt
Swift and deadly vengeance
The quick draw Jessie dealt
At sixteen, his gun for hire
Money did he make
Town to town he traveled
Dead bodies in his wake
At twenty two his name, was on every gunmen’s lips
They tracked down Jessie, relentlessly
Guns tied low on all their hips
Knowing if they killed him
His reputation theirs
Jessie faced them one by one
Come and **** me if you dare
By thirty-three, he grew weary
Of all the blood he shed
Seeing all the faces that ****
Crowed in his head
He swore he’d never **** again
Hanging up his guns
South across the Rio Grand
To the land of the setting sun
Life had changed for Jessie
A farmer he became
Getting marred, having kids
Peace was now the game
But just because you run
Doesn’t mean that you can hide
A sixteen year old came into town
A gun hanging on his side
Are you Jessie? The boy asked
It’s time for you to die
Boy…do yourself a favor
Get on your horse and ride
I’m the fastest gun around
The boy made the claim
You killed my father years ago
To you I’ll do the same
Jessie put down his little boy
And pushed away his wife
Stepped out into the street
Then said…go ahead and take my life
I have no gun, so take your shot
You’re sure to have your ****
Seventeen years from now
You too will lose your will
Jessie words just fell
Then, an echo from a shot was heard
Time had stopped, no one had blinked
Nothing even stirred
Jessie’s son had found his gun
Soon, came running back
Stood behind the sixteen year old
And shot him in the back
A thud was heard as the boy fell
His face lay in the sand
Blood was pouring out of his mouth
Twitching from his hands
Jessie looked right at his son
He didn’t look the same
Holding out that smoking gun
Now, he too was in the game.

we are a generation of sedation,

discursive, empty, godless children,

raised in the age of social media,

where the height of our emotions

lie in our 'thoughts and prayers',

and the best we can do is a touch of a button,

a share, a like, a tweet, a reaction documented,

rumination we pretend we've borne.

is it our intrepid numbness to it all?

after all, we are best known for

the plight for attention and validation,

or rather yet our entitlement and our narcissism,

terrorism doesn't have a face unless i see it,

and it begs the millennial question,

are we just a bunched of depressed sociopaths?

or is it because we are the privileged 20%,

nestle in the fringes of developed nations,

with our precious technology and our internet,

unbeknownst to a third world, a third world

we mourn according to how it benefits us.

after all, don't forget that in an emergency,

there is always 'thoughts and prayers'.

metal extensions
to my teenage angst
freed on my temple
post-speed hits

the perfect solution
to the voices and questions
rip through their illusion
that just-world phenomenon

it makes perfect sense
what the monsters do
stray from your lane
we're all monsters too

Yes all lives matter
but not all lives
have been marginalized.
There's no right end of a gun
One dies and
another is shunned
One is black and the other is white
Can we stop
and stand
and fight
For ours, their's, everyone's
Equal
Rights.

This is not a discussion
about one man's arms
but of another man's life.

guns, unseen enemy
"Unseen" replaces hidden, but easily a synonym fitting my thought about guns.   This was originally published in Modern Haiku.
