my naked body
Ashley Rowan Jul 2022
i’d dance for you
underneath a black veil
barefoot and dazed
a dark light shines upon us
but there’s nothing left to reveal

you might have seen my naked body
but you have never seen my bare soul

a stars’ ending
Ashley Rowan Aug 2021
you and I would hover over the earth
to get the best view
slowly drifting over in a sailboat
without the warmth of the sun
made ourselves a garden on the moon
throwing rocks like meteors
catching them like shooting stars

though I couldn’t  get used to this place

a place with no summers

may you always have the ability
to reflect on yourself
and being aware
of your own being
to shed all your layers
and transform
because most people these days
are caught up
in their own toxicity
and their inability
to change

may you never be delusional

may you never waver
just a note

Ashley Rowan Apr 2021
i just needed a lighthouse
something to keep my eye on
but all i got was darkness
maybe something to guide me
out on the north sea
with all my secrets
held underwater
and maybe a moon
to watch over me

tears in the sand
Ashley Rowan Oct 2020
i stare at the sun in soltitude
and i let it consume me
while my feet are burning on the sand
and my skin is sunburned
a tear escaped my eye
when i implored for a change
i can merely hope
things don’t go the way i planned
for there’s yet so much to see
and our time is brief

so i’ll just keep walking
and with every step
dust kicks up in the air
one day i hope to escape
this lunar landscape

weeping willow
Ashley Rowan Oct 2020
sometimes i remember
that i’m in my twenties
and it feels like i’m almost
running out of time
even when people
tell me there’s plenty
and it’s tiring
being in a world
that only goes in fast forward

so most of the time
i’m lying down here
wishing I was a weeping willow
hanging over a swan pond
and be at peace

older
Ashley Rowan Oct 2020
i'm not afraid
of becoming older
i don't care
about my hair greying
or my skin getting looser

i'm afraid of sitting
at the kitchen table
staring at the same backyard
the same trees
the same flowers
every single day
while thinking

i wish i had done it

Ashley Rowan Oct 2020
i’m dreaming of watching
sunsets with you
in front of an orange sky
along with cherry hues
seagulls crying
and boats quietly
passing by
feet in the sand
this is the promised land

he's the sun
Ashley Rowan Oct 2020
i watched him walking
among the stars
with his head down
when he found a cosmos
of a girl he used to know
while particles of stardust
landed upon his head
his universe expanded
in an ocean of emptiness
the melancholy he felt
washed away
his constellations
connected
when a sudden voice
told him to look up

he tilted his head
and he found the sun

cold mornings
Ashley Rowan Sep 2020
i've been standing here
every cold morning
waiting for the leaves
to turn brown
until my breaths
are making clouds in the air
and misty daybreaks transpire

autumn, my love

Easy
Ashley Rowan Sep 2020
i know how much you love
the stars when they shine
and we could just lay down here
and watch them all night
while i stare at the sky
i’m wondering why
how could I ever question
love all this time?
searched its way through a maze
never left many signs
came through foreign lands
walked in disguise
i was stuck on a mountain
met you when you climbed

you're not that easy
but neither am i
but i'm glad that we tried
excerpt of a song i once wrote, hoping I’ll ever reach this state of mind.

Late night in midsummer
Ashley Rowan Sep 2020
girls like you remind me of a sultry breeze
that brushes your skin
the skin of peaches and cherries
grape vines and plums

girls like you remind of
chocolate brown eyes
dripping in honey
in which you could drown

girls like you remind of
a dip in a swan pond
ringed by waterlilies
with a moonlit gloom above

girls like you remind of
a walk in Florence
with Dante's words
in the back of my head

girls like you remind me of summer
who flourish in the heat
even when it's
in the dead of night
because girls need to support girls

Strange
Ashley Rowan Sep 2020
facing the abyss
disconnected
lost touch with the earth

for it is only myself
who makes me
feel this way

i'm longing for
something that is
not necessary

it makes me feel meritless
at sea
and strange

because the depth after all
is but a pit
for others

Ashley Rowan Sep 2020
Don’t touch my heart
With your bare hands
You will burn you fingers
Because all my love
Has been bottled up
Since the day I was born
So my heart turned from yellow
To red
To blue
The warmest bit

To the woman inside of me
Ashley Rowan Sep 2020
This is to the woman
Who keeps reminiscing
About remnants of nostalgia
A woman who is all but a shadow
Whose leaves turned brown
A dim light that waits by the gate
A ghost that yields to me
The woman who’s trying
To find Eden
Longing for autumn
Falling asleep in her grief

This is to the woman I became

Exploration
Ashley Rowan Sep 2020
I’m a lily blooming
Still thriving
While still exploring the earth
And all her surroundings
Absorbing all of her beauty and body
I can’t even scribe everything down
That comes to my mind
To represent all that she beholds
In all directions of the winds
It is something even poetry can't describe
How she brings people together
She reminds me
That we're not that different

Sense of living
Ashley Rowan Sep 2020
All my life I have been feeling this crippling loneliness
Somehow it gives me a sense of comfort
Just the idea of someone walking on this very earth
Who is meant to be with me
Is lovely but also terrifying

I’m wondering if he’s thinking about me too
When he’s drinking a beer with the guys
Or when he steps into his car
Questioning when the seat next to him will be filled
Wondering what my favorite songs are
And if I like to dance
Also knowing there is someone on this planet
Who is meant for him

I wish the wind would whisper his name to me
Or the pigeon outside my window
The tram that rushes by me
Or the employee at the coffee shop
Just to know he’s not dead
That I don’t wait for nothing
Or my body will dig itself
into the earth
