Walk away
When he starts to beat
And make you weep.

Walk away
if he is cheap
and starts to hide and sneak.

Walk away
If he doesn't support you
but instead suppresses you.

Walk away
If he can't sleep
at night and starts to creep.

Walk away
if you're not appreciated
and your love starts to get underrated.

Walk away
When your love isn't reciprocated
proudly walk away and be respected.

Walk away
If he really doesn't know your worth
And not about relationship growth.

Walk away
Maybe Somebody else deserves you
Somebody who will call you boo.

Walk away
If he will not remain loyal and committed,
Take you seriously and be dedicated.

Even though you tried to hold it together
walk away if you see no future in any brother.

Walk away
If you live in fear
before you drown in tears.

loud noises
Flying metals
Where are my glasses?
Charred out rose petals
scourging flesh
human remains
wounds were fresh
Hot melting wire meshes
Scattered Brains
Blinding flashes.

The eery silence followed by loud screams
More sounds, coming from wounded people,
Lord my God this a dream, no really what it seems.
Lot more sounds evidence of human struggle
Somebody help me please, my baby!
Survivors scrambles in utter confusion
Hang on till help comes, do you hear me, lady?
Some rescue workers rushed by amidst the commotion.

The news flashed, somebody planted a boom.
A terror group claimed responsibility.
Silence descended upon the hospital room
I am alive but something tells me I'm a casualty!
Death toll rising,
International reaction
Children Crying
I silently prayed for the victims, without hesitation.

On my knees, I silently prayed for the terrorists
I ask God why God didn't answer,
I figured He had one, this the realism.
That he is not on any side, He's a forgiver
That includes those who carry out terrorism.
Dark souls Led by an ideology with a ****** history
Whose purpose is to make the world live in fear.
Unlike others fighting you, we say a prayer with poetry
This is our ways of showing we care.
We have an army of sound minds made of writers
Searching the constellations for words to trump hate
In spite of the fact you have a caliphate and brainwashed fighters,
We hope our messages of love hasn't come too late!

Some will bring you false joy ,
           So Watch out !
When the magic starts to last
Yet treat you like a useless toy
              So watch out ,
As the love goes out in a blast.
              Watch out !

Some will give you big smiles ,
               So Watch out !
When they step into your life
Yet send you walking for miles
              So Watch out ,
For the wounds from hidden knife
                 Watch out !

Some will wipe away your tears ,
               So Watch out!
When they want a space to crash
Yet confirm your greatest of fears
               So Watch out ,
when lies and truths starts to clash
                  Watch out !

Some will bring you the new moon ,
               So Watch out!
Causing high tides all around you
Yet take away your cool afternoon
               So Watch out ,
When the tides falls all around you
                 Watch out !

Watch out at all times. ..

Why are there entire cities to drain,
When Somewhere in my village,
People are dying for a drop of rain
Coming from a cave through a seepage?

Why are many places flooded elsewhere
When the drought there is constant
And People are struggling everywhere
To moisturize the soil just to plant?

Why are young Maasai men digging
For hours Into the patched African soil
Searching way into the humid evening
For a drop of water, they have to toil?

Why did nature leave my playground arid
When she rains down billions of liters in Texas?
Streetlights, no lights, drought at the power grid,
Scolding of nature is the caveat of the water crisis.

Why did God give us diamonds and gold,
How can he bless us with an abundance of minerals?
Then seal up the skies and put the rains on hold?
Turning the crisis to a vulture's feast and human funerals.

Showing a bit of gratitude...
Ivan Brooks Sr Apr 2019
What makes very beautiful poetry?
Somebody asked me the other day.
It doesn't have to Rhyme or be pretty
No two poetry looks the same, I can say.

So, is poetry about styles and expressions?
Somebody else asked me the very day
Or is it about the truth or is it about emotions?
Maybe all of the above, plus more, is all I can say.

Or is poetry about a poet's own introspection?
Another person asked me to my very face.
I said something in answer to the question.
I realized this was going to end in a disgrace.

So I decided to ask my fellow poets on here.
What really makes very beautiful poetry?

A beautiful poetry is measured using many variables.
Ivan Brooks Sr Jul 2018
When a published poet dies,
A shooting star falls.
The universe cries
And rainbows hugs waterfalls.

When an old poet dies,
A new poet is born.
Nature lights up a million fireflies,
And a ship gives a tot on its horn.

When a young poet dies,
A Crack appears in a crystal ball.
A Fountain pen dries,
And a sad poem appears on a wall.

When an old poetess dies,
For a while the wind will cease.
Petals will fall from Lillies,
And disappear without a trace.

When a great poetess dies,
Fallen poets observe silence.
The men adorn black bow ties,
And the ladies dress in elegance.

When any poet dies,
The world loses a bright mind.
Shakespeare appears across the skies,
Waving to those of us left behind.

When a poor poet dies,
Nothing at all happens.
The world goes about its duties
He goes on to rest with other legends.

When The Blind Leads
Those led become lost
From afar comes loud pleads
To Save everybody at all cost.

Hence salvation costs pray and bucks
The religious few will turn to the church
While the rest march on like ducks
Blindly led, without knowing much.

Quick calls to God's prayer line
Made from the pastor's iPhone 9
Just to make sure everyone's fine
Prepaid calls, another religious 419.

And so time stands still and watches
As the deep gap gradually decreases
And on and on the blind leader marches
As the last signs of hope varnishes.

Yet on they go without direction
Tick..tack tick tack. anxiety increases
As they head in the wrong direction.
Following blindly until everyone crashes!

I'm the beginning of the end
and the end of time and space.
I'm essential to all creation
and I surround you every place.

I'm without a specific form
and I'm the building block of life.
I'm the unseen guest in your dorm
and I move with stealth like a thief.

I'm not the first neither am I the last
Yet I have always been present.
Call me the ancestral ghost from the past
and I'll never ever really be absent.

Who am I, who do you think I really am?
I have no friends or known enemies
About my identity, nobody gives a ****!
I'm he who has no real rivals and nemesis.

Hypothetical question...
Ivan Brooks Sr Mar 2018
When will I really become known,
Is it when I write a book to call my own?
How can I solidify myself as a real poet,
What can I do to become a real laureate?
Am I just going to keep writing poetry
Because of my mastery of words and artistry?
Is that enough to usher me into the spotlight,
And make me win awards before hitting my twilight?

When will I consider myself a real writer
Is it when I have a New York Times bestseller?
I have kept my hands off the intellectual property
Of another poet even though we have no propinquity.
Even though I've followed these poetic etiquettes
It doesn't automatically place me amongst the elites.
So what do I do to progress beyond this rhyming phase,
To Whom do I turn to effectively plead my poetic case?

I do wonder about achieving greatness ...call that ambition. If I will ever become great, will it be achieved through poetry?
Ivan Brooks Sr Dec 2018
I write not for glory.
I just tell my story.
Sometimes I motivate
Other times I educate
Most times I inspire
Oftentimes I rewire.

I write not to entertain
I do it often to train.
Sometimes to impact
Other times to inject.
Most times I straighten
Other times I enlighten.

I write not for pleasure
Neither do I for leisure.
Sometimes to showcase.
Other times to erase,
The misconception
About my poetic vocation.

I write not at all to boost
But just to do my utmost.
Sometimes it's for a cause,
And most likely not because
I have nothing else to do.
This is my life,so I have to!

Ivan Brooks Sr Jan 2018
The good book said God created us,
And the sneaky devil deceived us,
Therefore Jesus died and saved us.
Thereafter, diseases started killing us,
Science and medicine started healing us,
And technology advanced us.

Right after the Internet connected us
Then friends started betraying us,
Our families started misleading us,
Our partners started cheating on us,
children started disobeying us
And finally, the banks started robbing us.

And amidst all of these wild theories
Of how we got here and how we evolved,
poetry found us!
I don't know what this is but one thing is certain.... poetry found us!
Ivan Brooks Sr Apr 2018
If the eyes are indeed window
To the soul, right here ,right now,
I say no access granted.
For I too have patiently waited
With vigor and optimism,
To look through this prism.
Beyond this dark #WAYFARER
Into an unknown but bright future.
A future I've worked so hard for...
I have given too much for her,
Ever since the day of my youth...
A quest that took sweat and tooth.
Some sweat and blood, yet I hang on..
During gloomy days or pain I moan..
At night I gaze the constellations and pray
I do this from Monday to Sunday,
Each and every Morning and evening
Until thy kingdom come,I'll stop at nothing,
Until I join my ancestors in the great beyond...
Until I can no more see the reason to fight on,
Until my soul circumvent this temporal phase,
And soar to its final and eternal resting place.

The eyes are indeed a window to the soul...
Ivan Brooks Sr Jan 2018
When one woman cries somewhere
God sends storms the same afternoon
Torrential rain falls elsewhere
And Heaven pours down monsoon.

Whenever she's happy and smiling
Sun shines brightly in all dark places
life sprouts and plants start growing
Souls brighten and everything balances.
A woman gave me life ...precious!
Ivan Brooks Sr Aug 2019
Women, bearers of warriors' marks,
You're the tough layers of the baobab's barks,
Best of the portraits that nature paints,
and Catwalk models of baggy pants.

You have been misled and misused
Your bodies and souls have been abused,
Yet, like a rose planted in a concrete
You majestically rose on your feet.

Women, flawless skins, lipsticks queens.
Fresh like shades of master's greens.
Big bones babes, skinny jeans chicks,
Gorgeous women, with kitchen tricks.

You are every woman, universal mama,
Rest in peace to the mother of Obama.
God bless every woman from Uganda
to the outskirts of the land of Wakanda.

African woman, Mother of humanity,
Thou are endowed with enviable beauty.
Eternal goddesses, brides of great kings
Multitasks babes, doers of great things.

Oh, Woman, givers of selfless love,
Sent to us from the great man above.
Oh, Woman thou are blessed,
You shall slay, was long prophesied.

This is a tribute to Maya Angelo's mammy.
Bless your lyrically poetic womb.
a solemn tribute to Mother of LeBron,
The NBA GOAT, King James of Akron.

Curvy Women work your gorgeous hips,
Smile with your Luscious rogue lips,
Thou are the pollen grains of biology,
and the specimen of perfect anatomy.

Eve of Eden, the apple of God's own eyes,
You gave every woman bedroom eyes
that pierces to the core of diamonds,
Like hardened bejeweled armors.

Woman, thou are truly nature's bounty.
Showcase your freaks and sexuality,
For which your petals toast monthly...
Slay dear queen, slay perpetually.

You came from Adams's ribs to give life
Woe unto any man who mistreats a wife,
Thou are indeed a blessed assurance,
Behold your grace, strides, and elegance.

For Sarah Brooks, my deceased mother,
and Sarah Ivana Brooks, my daughter,
For white, yellow and Brown women,
and all beautiful black African women.

This poetry, I penned for women is a tribute to everything.
For those nights you stayed up to sing,
Those prayerful songs only God heard,
Lying on tears soaked pillows in bed.

Words were used in the creation of the world by the grandmaster of creation.

Words are essential, probably the greatest means of communication amongst people since we emerged from the caves.

Words can be used to communicate and express ourselves, our feelings, our emotions.

Words can also be used for the formulation of plans and evil that will cause potential destructions.

Words can be properly utilized to convey messages of hope and love, reconciliation and peace.

Words have often been used to express our genuine discontents about issues regarding human rights, moral justice, and equality.

Words can be used to write great stories and words can be tools when we write a beautiful poetry.

Words are often used as silent weapons in the dissimilation of lies propaganda and malicious gossips.

Words can start a war and words can stop a war.

Words can uplight or downgrade, Whether used to the console or motivate, inspire or cast a spell, manipulate or mislead.

Words can be the caveat for the downfall of a great nation because one idiotic leader uses it to disparage, negate and see others as shitholes.

Time is of the essence
And against the timeline of deliverance,
I have struggled to focus
Which isn't normal because
I have a special deadline
For something destined for my timeline.
It's a masterpiece I have to write.
If the universe plants words in the constellation
And blesses each poet through his imagination,
why then is my diction so quiet,
And where are you dear inspiration?
Please rescue me in my time of desperation.
Kindly tell the poetic overlords
That I ran out of words
Tell them I'm in a limbo and it *****
I need a solution that works
because all boils down to the mechanical wall clock
Held hostage by this episode of writer's block.

We are all here today
Courtesy of yesterday.
So fear not tomorrow,
It's a gift from God to borrow.

Take a look at everything,
Do you miss anything?
Everything, everyone here today,
Began their journies yesterday.

Fear not what tomorrow brings,
It could be some good or bad things.
Things allowed by yesterday
Just to manifest themselves today.

Yesterday is the same as today,
It's just a day that has passed away.
Though it takes a part of us with it,
Tomorrow is what we all await.

Fear not yesterday, its a broken arrow.
Ivan Brooks Sr Feb 2020
Yesterday, When the world was young
and the earth was still beautiful.
When happy day was nature's song
and the devil was still merciful.

Yesterday, way before the computer
and the inception of the internet.
That was before Jedi and skywalker,
eons before Elizabeth and Phillip met.

Before the information highway
and way before social media.
Before the first play on Broadway,
and the Biafra war in Nigeria.

Yesterday, before we lost focus
and mankind got infected with the very addictive FB virus.
Yesterday, before Twitter was created.

Yesterday was only time and space.
It was the time that God realized
that the earth was a very sad place.
God's plan was not yet finalized.

Yesterday will never return but it was the beginning of today and the end of the day before yesterday.
Ivan Brooks Sr Mar 2018
Yesterday is gone
But not without a fight
Hope she makes it home
On tomorrow 's flight.

Yesterday left us
Only with memories
Bittersweet like citrus,
Tomorrow's calories.

Yesterday is almost gone
My Sweet Lord Jesus
Today I'm not at all alone
For you blessed few of us.

Tomorrow was yesterday
And today will be tomorrow
I can't wait to see the day
When yesterday will bow.

Yesterday is proof of my transformation...I'm a poetic work in progress.
Ivan Brooks Sr Jan 2018
Yesterday is standing with us today
Today too will be with us tomorrow
Today and tomorrow will all pass away
And Adios from me represents sorrow.

If yesterday and today becomes tomorrow
It then makes no sense to look for them both
They took a flight today on the perpetual arrow
Destined for the future, east beyond the south .

Left with us now is only this moment called today
It's actually the leftover of the other day left with me
Which is basically part of the past called yesterday
I hate to say but all these days to me are the same .

I can finally exhale and look far beyond tomorrow
A wise man told me that's where the future lives
All I need to do is apply to God for days to borrow
For the future is beyond distance ,time and miles .
