When the ball is snapped
I run like hell
When I catch it
I run it some more
When the other team has it
They won't go far
Until I am there
Until my team is with me
Like football has been for me
I have always loved football
When I need to run
When I need to catch
When I need to feel
Like part of the team

In third grade
I joined my school band
I was percussion,
the only one in my school
Lugging around my giant drum kit
I was different
But,
still an essential part of the band

Now, fast forward to seventh grade
I joined my school field hockey team
I was the goalie
The only one on my team
Lugging around my giant bag of gear
I was different
But,
still an essential part of the team

These parallels stick out to me
Clearly, it's a statement

I desperately crave that team
group
sense of belonging

Yet,
at the same time
...
I want that independence
I want to be different
I want my own little niche
...
It's amazing how much poetry
can give you an insight
into yourself

Last year
was the worst

loosing half our team
to a discrimination scandal

how could they do that?
how could that say that about those people?

how could they be those people?
how could they get expelled?

how could they sabotage our team?
By doing such STUPID things?

We lost
No surprise there

A losing streak
till the end of the season

Even losing the title of champion
held several years in a row

...

This year
new freshman

faces shining
as ours had been years past

showing us weary downtrodden sophmores
the reason we played in the first place

not the winning
not even the people on the team

...

But the sport
our sport

we just defeated our long time rivals this year
and things are looking good

A cute chocolate truffle cake
Brought mysteriously
Without my knowledge at all.

My team & colleagues
clapping and singing
Happy Birthday
Which
means a lot to me.

While I cut the cake
with shaking hands
Anxious a bit
Not used to
So much of attention
How to express my emotions
Whether happy or sad,
I don't know what to do

As all of them
Gave me a reason
To smile a bit
And be happy despite
of challenges.
My birthday on this Sunday but my team brought a beautiful cake to cherish upon.
Sorry all of you for not being around much here. Hectic schedule does make me low
But trying to get back on reading and writing poetry here more often.
Hp is always a family to me, and you all have been my pillar during the storms and thunder.
team Candy and Randy
bought the shop owner
out
their volumes of cash
sure had a massive
clout

they've a money supply
which will not peter
out
it just keeps giving like
an endless water
spout

this has allowed them
purchase in stock so
stout
as their banknotes won't
ever completely run
out

how we'd so like having
wads of their stack's
tout
to buy the seller's assets
that are on shelves of
flout

Another approach
Same strategies
Same chain of command
Different authorities
A mesmerizing complex structure;
Circumventing individual responsibilities.

How can we strive?
How can we grow?
Every being as important as the next;
For the success of a mission years away from fulfilment.

Everyone has a part to play
Every part must be played fully
Or else stagnancy is well around the corner.

For development,
The team must be strong.
They must be together.
They must have the same goals,
Or everything crumbles.
Thank you for reading ♥

The team are positive and buzzing
The weekend game is ready for kick off
The passion and eagerness to get in the goals
To win the match, another notch
A goal! Yes!
That's what they're playing for.
To win and move upwards into league one
Time ticks on, the dynamics have changed the score now a draw
Determination is spread all over their faces
Moves that are planned, thought out and go well
Others that lack skill and don't go so well
Such promising chances to lead once again
But impossible to penetrate the whole team defending
They battle and strive, push forward so hard
The ball is resistant to hit the back of the net
Tempers are rising, remarks here and there
The team look exhausted but play through their pain
Keep going, play harder and do not give in
They've played very well even if they don't win
The clock is ticking the whistle blows
Their faces sink deep with frustration and anger
Why did we lose?
A player stomps off and throws his water bottle onto the pitch
Storms off in a sulk, swearing expletives
The others ignore him and join their team talk
To put into perspective, analysing their play,
To restore their passion and commitment to win on another day.
A little poem I simply had to write after watching my son's football match today. Hope that you enjoy :-)

"So many “happy birthdays” and only so few I care about. 19 years by your side and there’s still no soul can bust this team in two, we stick together like glue. No thanks ever and I hope you celebrate with me next 71 birthdays please… Thank you so much."
A beautiful soul wrote this to me on his birthday. I was both: amazed and sprung.
