I just would like to
slide my fingers between
the empty spaces of your hand
and lean my head
on your shoulder
feeling your pulse
beating in time with mine
I'd like to smell
the familiarity I used to
drench myself in
but now I'm soaked in a new odor
washed off the memories with
lavender soaps and vanilla scents,
with the occasional raindrops
prickling down my skin
I would like to see you up close
and trace the lines beneath your eyes
and wonder why your lashes are so long, it's unfair
wonder if your eyes
have forgotten who I am
I would like our souls to be free of this superficiality,
and unwind in a smoke form
no telling where you begin and I end
I would like us to stop being so afraid
and for our paths to cross again
and most of all, I'd like to see you smile in a way
that your heart is on display
no more hiding in dark corners,
listing dreams instead of making them true
If it was so wonderful,
then why aren't we doing it again?
Goodbye.

Everyone is high
On self pity and
Hate
Self diagnosed with
A terrible
Fate
No one knows
How to be sad
Without writing it off
As extraordinarily bad
Happiness isn't
A permanent gig
It's always there
If you bother to dig
Everyone is sad
Because the world is ****** up
And no one dares
To see the good stuff
A world of pessimism
Breeds angry babes
And they all start to believe
Theres no Other way
So load up on drugs
Get high in the rest
Because that's when the world
Looks its ******* best
No one was taught
How to smile
Despite the world
Looking dark for a while
So we all slit our wrists
And demand sympathy
From a world that never cared
If you were down on your knees

Take my light,
I don't want it without you.
Leave me without hope,
carry it into the blue.
Tie down your future
with the penny I'll throw.
Teach me how to play dead,
and I will let you go.

Put me in your shoes,
and tell me something is missing.
Tell me, from now on,
my life is simply existing.
Take my smile and my eyes
and I will take on yours.
I will resent you for your joy,
but never tell, of course.

I'll let you leave,
I'll stop obsessing,
If you do this for me.
All I ask is that you strip me of my optimism,
and leave me simply to be.

And you'll walk away with purpose.
Walk with hope of something.
Live in the light of promise.
And I will aspire to nothing.
I don't care if it's not a fair trade.

Pessimism and sarcasm
Go together like
No budget and a bad check

An opportunist takes spilled milk, adds sugar, makes ice cream.

An optimist believes it will all sell before it melts.

A pessimist complains that no one buys plain vanilla anymore.

A lot of us are still crying over spilled milk.

No one is happy.

You can be delighted
Or find glee
You can be elated
Or feel bliss
You can be enchanted
If once pleased
Maybe tickled
And feel thrilled.

But not happy
No never will be.

The fact is no one
No ONE is going to be

Since happiness
Utters farewells
Knocks once
Yes, leaves you breathless

But always leaves
Loves to leave

Like a cool breeze at midday
Or the role you like to play
Summer that goes away
Or someone who doesn’t want to stay.

Happiness is always a phase
Sometimes seen on others face.

No one is happy.
No one will be.

But I still hope we’ll be.

I gave up pessimism,
abandoned optimism,
and embraced realism;
I thought I would know reality
but now all I know is fear.

the glass is half empty
my mind is too full
negativity is all that tempts me
with its downward pull

with broken feathers
i fall from the sky
when it's always cloudy weather
hope is sure to die

once i was lost
broken and dying
now i can be found
fearlessly flying

I'm a saint of the vapor
that's my God-given nature
I'm only here for a season
with my heart, pen, and paper
GaryL did the first two stanzas and I did the second two stanzas. Many thanks to GaryL!
