What is it that separates you from me?
A short distance between
The atoms that build our bodies?
Or is it a mentality, made up by
Different struggles we suffer while
People fight for every waking moment
Just to breathe...
Can anybody tell me the difference
Between "knowing better" and
Hypocrisy?
Does anyone really know who
Scribbled on the stone tablets
Deciphering the code that some
"Other being" told us was ethical?
Where did Enoch really go?
When he opened the gates to heaven,
And spoke to Gabriel about Thee?
Was it he who read the book of
Life, and came to understand
Only to leave the world
By God's demand?
Will I ever be more than this
Ant receiving signals by antennas
Sending advertisements telling me
What to buy next so I can be like
All the rest who are happy while
Society straps me in a straight jacket
Driving me mad with stress and
Ceaseless demands...
Maybe making more money will
At least buy me some ******* time
To relax.

Some say it happens when we lose control
Some say it happens when the government collapses
I say it happens when we lose our
Values
Morals
If we do not remember our guiding values and morals then we will all become beasts

Down in it.

This world is full of lying people.
Money rules their lives; their minds are so feeble.
Everyone cannot be trusted;
So called helpers leave you down in it.

If you remain positive, they will only steal everything
And leave you to resent your life.
I hope you like being down in it,
Because people are not nice.

If you attain anything, then everyone will demand their piece
And leave you down and out, left hating the thieves.
All your efforts they destroy.
Trust no man, woman, girl, or boy,
Because in the end they will no longer be a friend;
They are a taker.
They are taking away your money so they can spend.

Bit by bit, they are taking it
And in the end you will have not one thing.
You work hard so they don’t have to;
I hope you see a better view.

Maybe we could be like them?
Then again, let’s pretend,
That you are better morally.
Let’s pretend you can hear me,
Without needing to shout,
I disagree!

Winter

The cold wind blows, through the bones in my body.
A shiver down the spine makes you shake a gesture or sign,
Of a forthcoming winter; the cold is in the air.

So enjoy the sunshine, before the cold dark days;
The winter of discontent.
The eerie sound of an icy wind, a time for you to lament;
That the warm days, are no longer.
This summer has come and gone.

So wrap yourself up, nice and warm,
Before you catch your Death.
The bleakness of the moral, is innocently lost,
But the cold air gives form, to a heated breath.

So stay indoors, where it’s safe and warm
And keep the heat trapped;
For the heat that you have imprisoned,
Beneath the blanket on your bed,
Will soon become,
This winter’s closest friend.

I wrote this poem after reading an article of a Syrian mother, who had to flee the country to prevent getting tortured and killed. She counts every day until she can get back her children, which had to be left behind with the rest of the family as money was insufficient to smuggle them, besides the danger of the journey itself. I read the comments and saw people raging and filled with hate that she left her children behind. Saying that they were disgusted seeing her. This kind of behaviour inspired me to write this (let's call it a) poem.

The fact that I am a lawyer or soon to be lawyer explains the format of my writing. I apologize to all who have difficulties reading it. Trust me it would not be the worst kind of legislation you have ever laid your eyes upon ;)

This world has taught me that having self-confidence
Makes you more susceptible to failure.

But that failures can sometimes be soothed
with some thought and a pen and paper.

This world has taught me that the truth
is more likely to emerge if you are anonymous.

That sometimes being a traitor,
is synonymous
with looking out for yourself.

This world has taught me that the more power
and wealth you may hold,
the less you care about those below you.

The more your arrogance grows,
the stronger your belief that you cannot be controlled.

This world has shown me how your heart can feel cold,
infested with hurt
only to realize it's rotting with mold.

That you can be surround by people
or peers, and still feel so detached and unequal.

This world has taught me that when you tell someone a story,
They will be waiting in anticipation
not paying attention,
but in a hurry
just so they can tell you theirs.
Ignorant of the fact that I realize it.
Ignorant of the fact that hurts me.

This world has taught me that the feeling of glory
is sometimes followed with guilt.
But,
no hero or champion would ever dare to admit
how it swelled their bellies with unfulfilling accomplishment.

Sometimes I wonder how long it took them
to recover,
to have that courage inside their souls re-built.
