When the lights
go down
and colors
burst
profound
thoughts
replace
the numbing
days
Kayla Gallant Jun 2019
You see she didn’t mean to pull the trigger, it’s just that her mind was so dark and she thought she was turning on the lights.
Just a flint of light cast into the universe

Unexpectedly, like a thief in the night
Depression will come
Anxiety
Anger
Despair will introduce itself
threaten existence,
testing
Faith,
Assaulting the most precious possessions
Leaving behind bitterness
footprints
in the coldest nights

But none define whose you are

Don’t fight alone.....

Close my eyes and I can see yours again
Let myself get lost in the distant memory
The song plays through my head
And it's like watching a movie through my own eyes
Because I know it's not real

And I remember how I pressed my head against your chest
How soft your lips felt on my cheek
And how my heart shuddered when you whispered that you loved me
I never wanted it to end

And I'll never forget how soft that dress was
Or the respect I commanded dressed in blood with crown in hand
I wont forget the glittering lights
Or the warm air that night accompanied by the soft breeze

But most of all I wont forget you
Your smile your laugh
Your pocket square with four prongs
I can't forget your dancing
Your sweeping me off my feet

And how could I
You made me feel like a queen for just one night
And as wonderful as it all was
All I really needed that night was you
Although this is something I hope to never forget, it haunts me.

say
I see the lights through the window
Forming shapes in your ceiling
We lie in bed and you look at me
You don't say what you are thinking
But you smile and get closer.

I hear the traffic through my window
Keeping me awake till late at night
Too late to say what I was thinking
That time I wanted to stay
But left anyway.

Hark, while the wasteland breathes out silent whims,
And see, as night's aura cloaks distant trees;
A sinister echo of ancient hymns,
Floats up, in a creeping midsummer breeze.

As the miles sum up - an anxious bearing,
Rushes a vague fright up the fragile spine;
But with the city lights on watch, nearing,
This unsettling fear slides down the incline.

The unattended anxiety does go,
Which this travel in the dark did arise;
City lights torch a new fret although,
But far less weary, it, in question, lies.

Wearisome measures of the restless nights,
Merit resistance by the city lights.
Based on what traveling away from home to another city feels like to me.

Coming back
From a land unknown
Far beyond reach
Yet right in front of me

Flashes of memories
Crashes
Faster and faster and faster

They didn't stop at the red light
That red light
They didn't stop at the red light

Less than a foot away
Only inches away
From chaos
Screaming in terror
Then going on like nothing happened

Saved by chance
So what is this?
The one in ten?
What if, then,
If we hadn't seen them coming?

Broken, probably
Bleeding
Shattered glass
Moments flashing
Faster and faster
Until all is but a blur

None shall ever be known
For such didn't happen
They didn't stop
But we did
Just in the nick of time

In the summer, some person ran a red light and almost crashed right into the drivers side of our car. Almost right into my mom.
