Screaming
you would think that to-day
was the only day to shop
there were hundreds of people
in every one of the shops

one could hardly move
up and down the supermarket aisles
because all the aisles
were crowded for miles

it was elbow to elbow
in the shoe store
one had some difficulty
getting through the doors

at Wade Street butchery
the customers were crammed in
we were like a shoal of sardines
in a John West tin

why everybody wanted
to be out shopping I'll never know
you'd thick that there no other
days of the week in which to go

from here on in shopping
on Mondays won't be happening
cause the crowds of people
made me feel like screaming

Mississippi River I love you
You're the sweetest girl a boy ever knew
I can't wait to be back in your arms
And to feel the wonder of your charms

I'm catching a greyhound at eight tonight
I want to see your beauty at first light
I'm thinking about you all the time
I long to be in the presence of your soft flowing line

No longer can I be far from you
You're the only girl for this boy so true
Mississippi River I'm in no doubt
You're the treasure I can't be without

down
with her not so nice
parlance

one suspected
she was scheming
against me
she'd been telling
my man
to be well shod of me

he took notice
of her every utterance
she put her devious knife
into my back
to derail any love we'd share
down the track

that most vile woman
will regret
what she's been saying
as I'll be letting her husband
know of the games
she's been playing

one man isn't
quite enough
for her voracious appetite
she's got to take
another woman's man
to satisfy her spite

Hollow Heart
he's been running
running away all of his life
he's run from his parental responsibilities
he's been running for many years
he's a father of neglect
his children he did reject
he left them at a young age
he showed not an iota of care
he was so self absorbed
in running elsewhere
he's run a marathon
all around the globe
covering his tracks
should he be found out
he's used deception
cunning and guile
to avoid his children's smiles
his primary concern has been for himself
he's so in love with himself
he's had two families of children
and their mothers
had to fill the role
of both parents
while he was chasing
another piece of skirt
to satisfy his wanderlust
he's not a man
he's a mouse
he's run
well away from his fatherly duties
he'll die alone
and he'll be easily forgotten
as men like him
are very very rotten
he deserted his children
abandoned them
he had no love
in his hollow heart for them

Wedding Bells Peal
wedding bells peal o'er the dales to-day
they peal in a most exuberant way
their pealing tells of endless happiness
which shall last with much gleefulness

matrimony a blessing of enduring love
a troth gifted by the Lord up above
choirs of birds shall sing of devotion
as the wedded couple bind in adoration

wedding bells peal o'er the dales to-day
they peal in a most exuberant way
their pealing tells of endless happiness
which shall last with much gleefulness

the sacred vows of love ever entwining
holding through the years of shining
love's sweet bloom flourishing so bright
in a divine accord of special delight

wedding bells peal o'er the dales to-day
they peal in a most exuberant way
their pealing tells of endless happiness
which shall last with much gleefulness

a life time of endearments they'll share
beginning on the nuptial day so fair
a kiss of blissfulness sealing the oneness
between the couple in true togetherness

wedding bells peal o'er the dales to-day
they peal in a most exuberant way
their pealing tells of endless happiness
which shall last with much gleefulness

Slim and May
Slim- Where is my T-shirt May?

May- I pegged it on the clothesline yesterday...

Slim- No wonder I couldn't find it!

May- After you'd spilled tomato sauce on it, I thought I'd wash it.

Slim- The next time, I have sauce on a pie, I'll have to be careful not to get it on my shirt...

May- You may need a serviette around your neck....to ameliorate stains on your shirt.

Slim- Have we any serviettes in the cupboard May?

May- Yes! I bought some at the supermarket earlier on to-day....

Slim- No doubt, I'd be lost without you May!

May- When you married me, it was most certainly your lucky day...

Jack called in this morning
for a cup of tea
and he asked if he
could hold my knee

I turned down his request
rather smartly
as I had no need
of a hand on my knee

Jack is a man
who is into close contact
Jack is also a man
who is lacking in tact

he's very forward
in his style of approach
his manner doth
irritatingly encroach

last week he called in
to have tea with Meg
he asked if he could hold
her ample leg

to whit she said Jack
I don't think so
it is time for you
to get up and go

Jack likes to call
on the ladies in these parts
using his not so pleasant methods
to win their hearts

Jack fancies himself
to be the local ******
but the ladies around here
know that isn't so

Debate (Political Poem)
the political debate
has become rather base
female and male politicians
hurling plenty of mace around the place

the opposition leader's uncalled for tirades
tearing the Prime Minister down
and she in turn
taking a few swipes at his crown

gender politics is playing
in Parliament House these days
and little of it
makes for a respectful array

a cessation isn't on the horizon
in Canberra town
and the behavior of our politicians
is getting the constituency down

politicians of eras past
would be most discomforted

the present debating cast

Some Harm
the chickens we are eating
are pumped with antibiotics and hormones
and those substances
will finally be absorbed into our stomachs and bones

due to us needing a feed
we're also obtaining
the odd few chemicals
in our grain seed

down the line
we'll be in for a few ailments
which have been bought on
by these nasty derailments

our food shouldn't be made unrecognizable
so steer well clear
of sprays and drugs
which are so sizable

the labeling on food packaging
oft doesn't tell the entire story
and if it did it maybe
quite a disturbing story

whence you sit down
for a feed to-day
ruminate for a while
on what the food producers say
we've fed the chickens
a hormone
which is safe
for human consumption
we've sprayed the wheat crops
with a non toxic solution
which is okay
for your stomach's constitution

the proof of the pudding
is yet to be tested
our food products
are so grossly infested

organic foods
offer an alternative
for they've not had any interference
and for our stomachs and bones
they have an uncontaminated clearance

the time has arrived
for us to be less like thoughtless hobs
and watch what we're spooning
into our gobs

on Christmas day
our turkey was fattened
a little too quick
for our tables
at the poultry farm
is his intake of hormones
going to do us some harm

Speeding
on the way back
from Inverell
I had the foot at full throttle
the coppers were secreted
behind a clump of trees
as I whizzed along with speed
they detected my rapid pace of progress
and in no time
they were tailing me
flashing red and blue lights
caught my view
at that point I knew
I'd be served with a ticket
for driving in a manner
far too ****
but when the policeman
pulled me up
he gave me a stern warning
not to be low flying
down the road
and on future expeditions
over the tar
remember to watch
the weight of the foot
on the accelerator bar
you just never know
where the law is hiding out
as it can hit you
with a speeding fine

Kansas Dust Storm (1935)
across the Kansas plains
in nineteen thirty five
a soot black dust storm
did relentlessly drive

it consumed everything
in it's blinding path
houses and sheds were
covered in a dark bath

drought and the failure
of good rains to fall
had caused this most
horrifying gloomy wall

the folks of the plains
thought the end was nigh
so they loaded up their kit
and said goodbye

over the plains country
the dust held a gritty splay
and its dark ***** plume
lasted for some days

states further south
of Kansas were affected too
as it swept into their borders
with it's black slew
A picture of the Kansas Dust Storm, in 1935 prompted this write.

Bar Of It
when the politicians open up their traps
we're fed a diet of political crap
they think they are out smarting us
with the unpalatable stuff they feed us

we're wise to the diatribe which is shoved down our necks each day
we wont be fooled by anything they say
our Prime Minister stood up in parliament
to tell the members to be of a kinder bent

but in the next breath
he got out his nasty tasting mace
to give the opposition leader
a bit of its in the face

well that doesn't sit too well with the public at all
as they don't much like seeing an all in brawl
the politicians should be less rough
as their verbal insults can be too tough

they should be practicing what they preach
instead of going well beyond the breach
how can we respect anything they utter
when all they say is best kept in the gutter

our politicians are far from a good crew
all to often their distasteful jibes make us stew
they are losing all respectability
which does little for their publicity

their bluntness in the bear pit
we'll not have a bar of it
night hours close in at a fast rate

sparkling stars flicker in bright spate

glories of splendor behold the eye and elate
as they stud the night charcoal's tarnish
darkness falls in blackest of pate

such is the grandeur of the darkened grate
having a dazzling trove with which to embellish
night hours close in at a fast rate

in awe of these gems flashy of sate
we're absorbed by their smashing varnish
darkness falls in blackest of pate

its transitional tones do verily astonish

the creatures who are invading
do bother so

they're only small

just this morning
I saw ten thousand of them

it seems like they quite like
invading my house
they're in every nook and cranny
in my house

I can't get them to leave
they just won't go
they're sticking around
and some have crawled onto my iced vo vo's

maybe the constant
hot spell of weather
has caused them to invade
that's why they prefer
to be in my tenement
which is a welcome place of shade

should the temperature decrease
in the days ahead
these little blighters
will take leave of my stead

but for now I'm saddled
with these invading bush ants
I'm just so happy
that none of them
have found their way
into my underpants
One to make you smile...
