"rukh" poems
Ye hawayen kis or le jayengi mujhe,
Kab tak tere ishq me tadpayegi mujhe,
Na koi manzil na koi thikana raha mera ab,
etna dard dekar, Kab aur kis mor pe tumse milayegi mujhe,
Rukh tere pyar ka begana ** gya,
nahi bhul sakta tujhe main kabhi bhi,
Kyoki Tujhpar mera dil bhi deewana ** gya,
Teri yaadon ne mujhe etna dard diya ki,
Ab mere har lavj shayarana ** gya,
Nahi dekh sakta main tera ye udas chehra
Kyoki tumhari khushi hi meri muskan,
Lag jaye tujhe ye meri sari umar
Kyoki tum hi mere sapne aur tum hi mera jahan,
Kyon ruth gya ye pal mujhse,
Rone laga ye dil bhi jabse pyar hua hai tumse,

On a mythical Mumbai weekend,
of no serene start or dubious end,
with imaginary beauties, invisible friends,
I stepped out of a puffing train,
my long unkempt hair a lion's mane,
getting used to my twitching tail,
Posing on the Gateway of India,
the extraordinary explorer pose,
took a boat to Elephanta (sans the hose),
and when my shivering co-passengers
had finished feverishly taking pictures
and started screaming holy mothers and sisters,
I took off from the starboard end,
and became the first man-lion to
cross the polluted Indian channel,
surviving to make the news channels,
my scientific name listed as a brand new mammal,
my mating call recognized as a gushing gargle,
On a mythical Mumbai weekend,
of no serene start or dubious end,
with imaginary beauties, invisible friends,
I devoured deep-kissing lovers for lunch
at Bandstand's low-tide on a hunch,
to the delicious sound of munch! munch!
even as Shah Rukh Khan watched disgusted
from his big big bungalow by the sea,
and as the city sharpshooters came after me,
and later when they brought me down,
from Nariman Point building, like KING KONG,
I tuned a dusty guitar and sang a melancholy song,
on the death of adventure, love and reality,
dangers of delusions, lethargy and self-pity,
repression, horniness and too much TV,
down in a shower of bullets when I went,
sky like the coming of rain, godspeed, godsend,
in a mythical city, where nothing is really meant,
On a mythical Mumbai weekend,
of no serene start or dubious end,
with imaginary beauties, invisible friends...

*Tulu-e-Subah Tere Rukh Ki Baat Hone Lagi
Tumhari Zulf Jo Bikhri Toh Raat Hone Lagi
Tumhari Mast Nazar Ka Khumaar Kya Kehna
Nashe Mein Garq Sabhi Kayanaat Hone Lagi*
**Rise of morning and debate of your appearance begun
Then your tresses scattered and the night begun
Intoxication of your enchanting eyes – what can we say!
O’ in drunkenness, sinking of whole world begun**

Chalo ! Chalo aaj kuch esa kiya jae,
Apne Sapno ko Haqeeqat se Joda jae,
Ye dono 1 dusre se bilkul alag hai,
par dono hi apni kabiliyat ke liye mashoor hai,
Sapne, Sapne to Aasman hai, Jinki koi seema hi nahi,
Par Haqeeeqat to Aag se Bhare angaare hai, Jin par chal pana itna aasan nahi.
Sapne to woh raah hai, Jo hume kuch karne k liye prerit karti hai,
par haqeeqat, haqeeqat to un sapno ko bhi tod deti hai.
To kya ab haqeeqat ko dekhkr, sapne dekhna chod de,
ya apni khwaisho ke rukh ko hi mod le,
Agar Nahi, To fir chalo haqeeqat ko swikarte hai,
Apne sapno ko haqeeqat banane me jutt jate hai,
Mehnat kar apni kabiliyat ke rang sajate hai,
Apne sapno ko apni Manjil tak lekar jate hai,
Apne khwabo ke pankho ko or feltate hai,
Thoda Haste hai, Thoda hasate hai,
Chalo na !!!
Apni zindagi ko thoda or kamyab banate hai !!!!..

Tum bheegna chahti thi baarish me hanth me hanth pakadkar,
Tum aana chahti thi jindagi me meri khushi bankar,
Chahti thi tum kabhi k mai tumoo baahon me bhar loo,
Sona chahti thi tum mere seene pe sar rakh kar,
Kha tumne hi ek din tha k tham lo haanth tum mera jindagi bhar k liye,
Mujhe bas apna bana lo tum aane vaale har pal k liye,
Har baar dil ko mere sunahre sapnr dikhaye tumne,
Kabhi mere haanthon ko choomkar to kabhi hanthon me haanth pakadkar,
Inkar tumko bhi nahi tha k tumhe mujhse mohabbat hai,
Sirf mujhko hi nahi tumhe bhi mujhse utni hi mohabbat hai,
Tumhar bhi kabhi khwahish thi k baal sanwaroo mai tumhare,
Ungliyon se pajadkar kaan k paas le jaaun sare,
Saath bitayen jindagi baant le har muskurahat aur ansoo aapas me hi saare,
Magar tanha is dil ko ehsaas hua jab toota ye sapna,
Meri khatao se rooth kar rukh mod liya tumne jab apna,
Ab na baaki rah gayi jafa koi,
Tumhe vaapas bulane ki,
Tum mujhse door ** gayi ** chahat todkar apni,
Tum mujhse rooth jati ** ku vaade bhoolkar sare,
Ijaajat tumne hi di thi tumko satane ki,
Satata aaj b nahu hu,
Khata fir bhi ** jaati hai,
Chalo ek baar aa jao,
Na mujhse door tum jao,
Gunah mere kiye saare ,
Bhulakar dil ki ranjish ko paas aa jao tum mere,
Samajh jao dil ki tadpan ko nigahen mujhse na fero,
Aaajao is baar pyaar me kar le milkar k vaade sare poore,
Jo meri nasamjhi se abhi tak rah gaye adhoore,
Paas tum aa jao mere paas tum aa jao mere,
Ek tum hi to ** meri koi aur nahi kareeb shiva ek pyaar k tere.
I love u

Na Maluum Hai Meri Manzil
Bas Rastaa Par Chaal Raha Hu.
Kabhi Rukh Jaata Hu.
Kabhi Thaak Jaata Hu.
Manzil Aanai Mai Daair Hai.
Sauchta Hu Ki Baas Chaalta Rahu.
Manzil Mili Ya Na Mili Aaab
Kya pata Yeh Chalna hi Tha Meri Manzil

Nida Fazli translations
Apni Marzi se
by Nida Fazli Shayari
translated by Mandakini Bhattacherya and Michael R. Burch
This journey was not of my making;
As the winds blow, I’m blown along ...
Time and dust are my ancient companions;
Who knows where I’m bound or belong?
Original Poem:
Apni Marzi se kahan apne safar ke hum hain,
Rukh hawaaon ka jidhar ka hai udhar ke hum hain.
Waqt ke saath mitti ka safar sadiyon se,
Kisko maaloom kahan ke hain kidhar ke hum hain.
Failures
by Nida Fazli
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch
I was unable to relate
the state
of my heart to her,
while she failed to infer
the nuances
of my silences.
Every Day and in Every Direction
by Nida Fazli
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch
Everywhere and in every direction we see innumerable people:
each man a victim of his own loneliness, reticence and silences.
From dawn to dusk men carry enormous burdens:
all preparing graves for their soon-to-be corpses.
Each day a man lives, the same day he dies.
Each new day requires the same old patience.
In every direction there are roads for him to roam,
but in every direction, men victimize men.
Every day a man dies many deaths only to resurrect from his ashes.
Each new day presents new challenges.
Life's destiny is not fixed, but a series of journeys:
thus, till his last breath, a man remains restless.
Couplets
by Nida Fazli
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch
It was my fate to entangle and sink myself
because I am a boat and my ocean lies within.
―Nida Fazli, loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch
You were impossible to forget once you were gone:
hell, I remembered you most when I tried to forget you!
―Nida Fazli, loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch
Don't squander these pearls:
such baubles may ornament sleepless nights!
―Nida Fazli, loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch
The world is like a deck of cards on a gambling table:
some of us are bound to loose while others cash in.
―Nida Fazli, loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch
There is a proper protocol for everything in this world:
when visiting gardens never force butterflies to vacate their flowers!
―Nida Fazli, loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch
Since I lack the courage to commit suicide,
I have elected to bother people with my life a bit longer.

Kinna ruwayegi menu
Aj ta had hi ** ***
Prabh gill da nawa song chal reha c
“Rooh da rukh”
Sala rona hi nai hatea
Ena jyada miss kita
Ena jyada gussa aya apne te
Aj ta salia cheeka bi niklia meri
Te sab to wadiya gal kisi nu pata bi nai chlea
Eh fayda he gaddi da
Unchi awaz wich gaana repeat te chal reha c
Te meri cheeka nikal rahiya c
Kher tenu keda koi fark pena
Na pawe
Tenu ta udan bi fark ni pena jidan me mar jana
Rab kare tenu meri yaad hi na awe
Rab kre tu menu bhul jawe
Rab kare tenu sade bitaye koi bi lamhe yaad na awe
Ena na ruwa kudiye, andro mar chukea ha

Yun is kadar anjaan banaya tumne mujhko k khud ko bhi ma pahchan na saku,
Ek to pahle hi tere pyar me pagal tha dil mera,
Kuj aisa kiya tune k jindagi kisi aur rukh pe mod na saku,
Beeti bston me kuj nahi rakha ye janta agar mai hota,
Na rota teri yaad me na yun kabhi tanha hota,
Kabhi kabhi dil karta hai tere kareeb aaun,
Tujhe nigaah bharkar dekhu,
Teri najar se najar milaun,
Par door gaye ** tum to aise k chah kar bhi kareeb tumhare aa na saku,
Silsila bahut purana hai chahne valo k juda hone ka,
Bas pyar karne ka aur ksbhi mil na pane ka,
Kuj haal mera bhi aisa hai,
K tujhe chahu chahta jaun par tujhe kabhi apna bana na saku.....

My friend shared this in a group
जरा धीमे से मुस्कुराया कर
ऐ जिन्दगी....
यहाँ नज़र लगाने वाले
हजा़र हैं.....
( Behold, dear life, do not smile so
I am afraid someone would cast an evil eye )
My response
Muskurati hai zindagi
Nazaraandaaz naa karna
Hawa ka rukh badal jaye
Toh tum naa badal jana
Kuch mausam ki hai sifarish
Aur Zindagi ki guzarish
Muskura rahi hai zindagi
Tum nazaraandaz naa karna
(Life smiles at you
Be not ignorant
The winds may change course
Hope you don’t
The weather recommends
And this life requests too
Life smiles
Be not ignorant)*#

Tum kis apnayat ki baat krty **
Yahan to hr koe paraya sa lgta hai
Wo or zamana tha jb gulshan mai bahaar hoti thi
Ab to hr mosam khizaa sa lgta hai
Iss mai hamari ghaulti nahe k badal gy ham
Rukh badal lyta hai dill jb na ashnaa sa lgta hai
Roty huwy dil ko akhir kon pehchaan pyga
Bahir sy jo chehra, muskurata huwa sa lgta hai
Bughaz, gheebat k maary yahan log
Wajud andr sy khatm hota huwa sa lgta hai
Ary! Ye dukrhy han iss jahan k ay awais
Jahan sy tu ab rukhsatt hota huwa sa lgta hai

Main sun k uski sub batain,
Faqat itna hi kehta tha,
Khafa hona mana laina,
Yeh sadiyon say riwayat hay,
Gilay shikway karo mujh say,
Tumhain janan ijazat hay,
Magar ik baat meri bhi,
Tum yaad rakh laina,
Kabhi aisa bhi hota hay,
Hawa’ain rukh badalti hain,
Khata’ain ** hi jati hain,
Khafa hona bhi mumkin hay, Khata hona bhi mumkin hay,
Hamesha yaad rakhna tum,
Ta’aluq toot janay say, Kabhi toota nahin kertay…!

Time true of ages triumpeth the secrets of faery
With Hazael's ivory tusk espying insight thus even
Solomon was not arrayed like the lily in the field, Eve,
Whose Tears filled the Aryeh Fountain that watered
Iduna's golden apple tree of discord, the source of the gods
Youth and health yet still not death preventing;
Continuance mightier thus we lose what is certain whilst
Seeking that which is uncertain under ye such as
Life and the volitant green silk with men and woman
On the right hand and spirits on the left as if a
Beatific vision were penetrated and the sun in the sky
Become blackened by the Rukh bird and like a lion
Satan stalks the saints, likeness in our echoing for the
Fairest in love and war for the matrimony of
Heaven and Hell.
