All yellow. All beautiful. All sprung. Blooming.
Yellow mania.
Fields of Kings.
Sunflowers, let’s let Autumn do it’s thing.

Orange, yellow and brown.
Is what fills my ground.
Autumn gold. Orange leaves.
Sunflower petals. And the brown seeds.
This was just a typical Autumn dream.

You planted your seeds
in my heart,
long ago.
What do I have to show for it?
A heart full of sunflowers.
Darling,
you are my spring.

It took a few years to find ourselves.
In that time, my hair grew out,
and your height grew tall.
We grew like sunflowers.

All the other girls wanted crowns,
along with a Prince Charming,
while I took up fencing, and learned
how to shoot a basketball properly.

You learned the arts, how to
play sharp staccatos and paint pastel skies,
while the boys your age were
breaking windows with baseballs.

Your performances stunned the crowds.
Your fingers moved mountains.
You came to my competitions.
My saber moved faster than light.

From a distance, was how we grew.
We were the sky and the sea,
watching each other from a distance.
So close, yet so far apart.

i will pick you a bunch of sunflowers;
each one is icarus,
reborn from falling,
from trying to fly too close to the sun,
each one,
still facing its direction;
maybe it's a sunstruck shade of love, darling.
or maybe it's just a bad case of morning lunacy —

see, each one still has wilted,
each one still has withered,
each one is still a tale
of icarus falling to the earth.
and darling, maybe flying and falling for you
are still habits i'm yet to break.

tanning at high noon
under the shade
protruding the shape
from a field of sunflowers
towering the surrounding grass

I'm beaming back a smile
bewildered and bedazzled
barraged by amazement
to the grandeur of their petals
and their seeds
a roasted culinary delight

nature's compass
staying eye to eye
with the life giving rays
full of nutrients sun-fired
beating down from the sky

yellows, browns, and
bright dull greens
are they not just Beautiful

i vividly remember us together
sitting by the sunflower fields
they were all turned to you
it had been a cool summer day
yet i had felt warm
next to you
have you seen the sunflowers in the south of France? they are stunning.
Mitch Prax Oct 2019
The night is young,
the night is ours.
Hand in hand,
we'll steal the stars
and all the lonely sunflowers
with no sun to face.

The tears you had, from me
I picked them up
They soaked into my skin and now they’re falling for you.

Recycled

The sunflowers I got you probably aren’t hanging from the wall anymore.
I hope they make the trash smell lovely.

They were meant to be

Lovely that is,
But I’m sure they felt like a materialist apology
For something that could only be healed with feeling.

Unapologetic resentment, is probably what I would name us. Our story

Pushed out,
you only got a glimpse of what was inside of me, all you had left was to imagine what could’ve been there
I’m sorry our brains want it all to be beautiful

Maybe it was beautiful
I was so scared of you being let down I almost did the opposite.
I did, do the opposite.

the idea of hurting your feelings unintentionally, was scary

I thought I would push you away
But I really only hid behind the curtains
You heard and felt what I felt.

But you couldn’t see, you went mad
I thought the curtain was enough

I could’ve sworn it was enough.

they’re was so much going on around me I couldn’t hear you when you said it was too loud, so you walked in the other room.

I didn’t notice until it got quiet and I went to look behind the curtain.

New flowers, no curtains.

I’m sorry.

her hair swayed in the wind,
delicate and gentle

her eyes were like beads of honey,
just like amber and chestnut

her spirit soared like an eagle,
graceful yet powerful

she was like 'summer linen',
woven intricately;
flying in a field of sunflowers
