You know how when you break open
some rocks you find crystal?
My heart is like that
break it open and you will find
all my love for you

I'm like a geode
I seem ugly and hollow at first
but after you break me apart
you will see all the treasure in me
that was hidden on the surface

Only now it is no longer yours
every touch from then on
turns my crystals to rust
one shard at a time

A geode turned to coal
for the next heartbreak
to reveal my hidden gold

I love to dance, I love this routine
But her eyes bore into me and I felt like a machine
My parts and gears were aching, turned into the color of rust
I felt ready to combust
I love to dance, I love this routine
But she's made me in to something that isn't quite me
Suddenly I can't recall the once familiar choreography

Her wicked smile bends me and I crumble under the pressure

Just imagine if I disappeared,
Would your memory of me be blurred?
Rusting away in your mind,
Leaving me behind.
A face you had known, a name you had heard.

The cold metal door
Squeeaaaks
And swings to the wall
In a thump of agony.

Lever-action. The bolt
Cliiiicks
To the hammer, before the
Brittle door-shavings

Rocket outwards in a
BANG!
Metal shatters like laminate.
In a way, its like

The spirit.
A poem about erosion.
#12 in the Distant Dystopia anthology.

Why do old things never become shiny again?

Its a shame,

really.
Born of ironwood and oak -
raised amidst fields of gold,
though rust tried to take you hold,
You mold your self to diamond hope.

I came up in Pittsburgh,
the Rust Belt of hard labor
with a deep love of community.
As children, we collected railroad spikes
from the tracks and we cut our shins
on random iron shards in **** hills.
Some of us were union middle-class
and others breathed the gray air of poverty.
That hardly mattered. As we stood atop
foothills that overlooked the city skyline,
soot embedded under our fingernails,
we lived as kings and queens
that oversaw the future.

I feel something in my heart,
It goes deeper and deeper
They hammer my heart with rusty nails
I always pull the nails out

I won’t let the rusty nails rust my heart
Because that little damaged heart wants to Protect you from the rust.
