I remember the way the world looked when I thought everyone was pure,
The hot air balloon of naivety was my only way up,
It felt safe then, when I remained unaware of other minds,
Then suddenly the red night battered down the doors, oh detestable colour!

Now my mind is tortured daily with nostalgia at each stair,
I love in vain and cry for all the shadows that cannot leave,
Their existence is essential and I didn't know that before,
But it's true when I say I lived in light, in the midst of that old nightmare.

I miss the innocence of a teenage crush
The blushing and the butterflies
The fleeting glances and tense shoulders
Where you would see them every day at school and ask your friends for advice
Do they think I'm cute? Should I say hi next time I pass them in the hall?
I miss when a kiss sent your stomach twirling and your heart soaring
When holding hands during a movie was newsworthy
I just want to experience the feelings of young love again

Innocence
So small, so pure
Tender and mature,
Yet somehow
Lacking

Innocence
A child at heart
From others, so far apart
Unaware of the placement of words
Giving an entirely separate meaning

Innocence
So small, so pure
Mind secure
Despite attempts to tamper
With the delicate camper
In a woods of magic

Innocence
A child at heart
Ready to play the part
Yet, is it true
Through this hazy view?

Innocence
So scarce in these times
Foolish with these rhymes
Interpreted and tainted
But unaware of such
Picture painted
A gentle touch
On the shoulder
Whisper of explaining
Drop of a boulder…

I was telling my friend about a kiss, and they thought I meant something else entirely. The minds of people these days are in the gutter.

Your love is pure, your heart is true
And every time I look at you
I tell you that I love you too
All you want is to be near
My dear friend, I feel the same
The look you give me, those big brown eyes
Are a blessing in disguise
I wish I knew what you are thinking
But instead you will just lick me
We play a game of "Bite the hand"
And then I give you a command
Your brows go up, you are confused
That scene just makes me so amused
I rub your ears, give you a kiss
You lie down near me in a bliss
You fall asleep but still alert
In case your nose smells a dessert
It's not that time, you need to sleep
Recharge for next day's little treat
You are the purest soul I know
My furry friend, most loyal creature in the world.

It is when you are corrupted that it is most difficult to go back, but falling out of innocence is easy. It's as if you could laugh you way from sweet to greed. Just step on down to the *****, wet ground. When your knees hit the floor and you want to stand back up, that will be the moment you realize just how hard it is to climb out. Climb out of the mud that coats your body. The mud that you dismissed as it filled your lungs and spewed from your mouth with every word you spoke. It felt good and easy sliding down into a puddle of muck. Now try to stand up. Try to wipe your greed soaked clothes dry. It's difficult coming back to innocence when you fall so deep into ignorance.

Look at you all,
You’re all so small,
Just specks on a spinning ball.
You feel like you are nothing,
Nothing at all!

Your unconscious strives for power,
It’s brought you down to a new low.
Down here we are all monsters,
No different from the animal.
We devour one another,
Just to stay alive a little longer.
Are you afraid you will remember?
You’re not who you claim you are,
You’re something sinister,
You’re a carnivore.

A carnivore needs to feed,
You don’t get a pulse until,
Someone else’s blood is flowing.
You get a high,
When people die,
You don’t get a pulse until,
Someone else’s blood is flowing through you!

You are afraid of what is closest to you,
Shying away from mirror.
Are you afraid you might recognize yourself?

You’re not innocent.
I’m not innocent.
We’re not innocent.
Do not lie to yourself, no one is innocent.

Your persistent desire to reveal the angelic nature of a human,
Brings you substance that adds up to nothing.
Don’t try to convince yourself of who you are,
You are a monster,
A carnivore,
No different from the animal!

There is evil beneath everyone’s skin,
It is so close to freedom!
This is not how I view the world, it is written from a different perspective to how I view it. I believe we need to write things we don't like too, go to that dark place sometimes to see what we conjure.

purest flowing clarity
resembling the innocence of a child's soul
lies in the muddiest and cloudiest
rivers

within us all.
it flows within our veins

if you only let the light shine through.

1.
It felt like crossing
all things cross, right?

2.
It has been many years since we have walked through that tunnel
and into this land
where the hands of spirits became the wings of ancestors over us
and the quiet inner gust became an orator of truth

Truthteller could you tell me again my name
They have given me so many on the northern journey,
disguised me to be one of the multiple
flickering pixels on a television screen

eyes darker than their own
but who has darker eyes

3.
She is the barefoot daughter of the Pachamama
womxn of many tongues
womxn whose tongue was not cut off
so you hear her sing when the sun comes up
and sway with the blades of grass
onward in the direction of the voices and the wind
and all the things that cry and laugh out loud

4.
They made you cross, too
and at the same time
But they made you forget
about the birds,
the wind,
your name- our name
and the alphabet
5.
silence is the alphabet used to speak truth

6.
They made you forget your name.
Ask them your name as you look up at the sky
cloudy or clear
as  children lay silently next to demarcation lines
housed in steel bars
gloomy and lost
ask and listen
to be humbled by your name

7.
The spirits call again
can you hear them now?

back through the tunnel of innocence,
they whisper your name.
