Bad Habit
Mckenna Lynn Jul 2014
Although hard to admit,
I've come to realize
that you’re the bad habit
I’m unwilling to break.

His love an ocean,
and she was willing to *drown.

Twinkling Eyes
Mckenna Lynn Jul 2014
It’s been months
since I saw the twinkle
in your eyes,
hypnotizing in the most
innocent sense.
Nothing has seemed
to ever shine so bright,
though I have searched
endlessly.
The only thing
that has ever come close
are the numerous
glowing stars in the
silent night sky.
I only wish that it didn't
pain me to lay out at night
and admire them
for I can’t help but think;
we’re looking at the same stars,
but I use these stars
to satisfy the craving
for something as
brilliant as your
twinkling eyes,
and you look at them
without a single fleeting
thought of myself
and the days
we once shared.
"His eyes shined like the stars in the sky"

Someone once told me;
stand up once more
than you are
pushed down.
But what if I
no longer have
the strength
to keep
standing
up?
"Fall down seven times, stand up eight."

Alone
Mckenna Lynn Jun 2014
I always wonder
how in a world
full of people,
I still manage
to feel so
alone.

Rainstorm
Mckenna Lynn Jun 2014
I am the flower
that longingly awaits
the next storm
that will bring
his love
and make it
rain down
on my delicate
petals while
washing away
all of my pain.

my drug
Mckenna Lynn Jun 2014
I crave a certain high,
the one I get
from the butterflies
that dance in
my stomach
whenever I see you.
My parents warned me
about drugs on the street,
but never about the ones
with a heartbeat.
"Sometimes, the drugs you crave the most aren't drugs at all"

The Moon & The Sun
Mckenna Lynn Jun 2014
I want you to love me,
the way the moon loves the sun.
With each waking breath,
the moon's time is running short.
The stars and their constellations
each hesitant to say goodbye;
for when the moon departs,
it will be their time as well.
Just as dawn breaks,
the moon melts away in the sky,
bringing his life of darkness,
so he wouldn't mask the sun's fire.
But he doesn't seem to mind.
For the blazing sun,
with her passionate burning rays,
filled the empty craters
in the lonely moon's heart.
"Tell me the story of how the moon loved the sun so much, he died every morning just to let her breath".

Don’t you find it odd, my dear,
what teens have come to fear?
They fear themselves, their own ways,
anxious at the thought of school every day.
So much pressure just to be
something the world wants to see.
Defined by the numbers on a scale
and acceptance letters in the mail.
Be as pristine as what is seen
on the glorified movie screen.
They focus less on self appreciation;
instead count calories and accept starvation
Talents are useless and don’t matter,
unless they help you climb the social ladder.
Quantity over quality when it comes to friends,
popularity defines you in the end.
They’d rather write their last note
and swallow too many pills down their throat
Climb up high and take their last stride
because from society they can’t hide.
Don’t you find it strange, my dear
that this problem is so near?
Even when teens have come this far,
they’d rather die than be who they are.
And yet no one’s reaching out
to tell kid’s what life is really about.
"A world so hateful, some would rather die than be who they are."

Memories
Mckenna Lynn Jun 2014
Strangers with memories,
that’s all we are.
Like waves in the ocean,
that drift apart with time.
Carried our separate ways,
following a different current.
Strangers with memories,
that’s all we’ll ever be.
