autumn lover, take my heart
if not my lonely hand
i've learned that wishes best are kept
beneath the slumb'ring sands.

autumn lover, walk with me
hold my eyes with yours
play the music we both hear
and warm my thoughts with lore...

autumn lover, share with me
a meal, a drink, a sweet--
whisper secrets i've not learned
of sustenance and heat...

autumn lover, dance with me
and find what Joy is worth--
we'll catch the tune, fixed or free,
although our steps bring mirth...

autumn lover, dream with me
lay Your soul with mine
join me 'neath the ageless tree--
our bower beyond time...

autumn lover, stay with me
though winter's chill draw near
i've laid by faith and love for thee
to last til dawn is here...

autumn lover, lost to me
but never lost to life
i'll wait a year, and seasons more,
to feel again Your light.

Looking up at the moon
*My god she looks lonely
 Jun 2015 Charles
Steele
She watches them together,
as her breath stops with a catch,
and her heart aches, pulled by tethers
made of love and lonely sadness.

He laughs. Briefly she can't help
but think that they'd be better.
She watches by herself,
and slowly drives herself to madness.
It's strange, the little things that can make her cry.

I imagine there is something I could've done
Something I could have said
Something I could've broken
To make you stay a little bit longer
Even if it were just to yell at me
Maybe then it would've taken an extra ten minutes
To forget your cologne
Maybe it would've taken ten extra minutes
To forget your cheek bones
Maybe if what I had done had been so bad
Maybe that would've giving me an extra hour
To remember you
But my mom tells me there is nothing I could've have done
That would've made you stay for good
I got myself suspended hoping
The school would call you instead of mom
But they only had our house number
And your postcards didn't have return addresses
So there was nothing they could've done to find you
My mom misses your income I miss your arms
I miss your baseball glove under my pillow
I miss your left hand on my cheek
I miss my black eyes
The school was so concerned about my home life
Back when I had a home
Now I just have hallways with doors that lead to rooms
We don't go in anymore
My mattress is on the living room floor
And I don't do my chores
Because you aren't there to make me
And for all the things I can't remember about you
I still can't make myself forget
The color of your taillights
And no matter what I snort I can't seem to burn the smell of exhaust fumes
Out of my nasal cavity
I will forever be eight years old
Forever have a tear stain on my right cheek
Forever know where to put my mom's head when she cries
I've had too much practice at being a man
To ever call you one
There is not a faucet or pipe
That hasn't leaked since you've left
Which is either how long you've been gone
Or how little you did while you were here
She says it's been for the best
Your post cards stopped coming
My cheeks stopped swelling
Your anger stopped echoing in my ears
And now I can't even remember the tone of your voice
But my mom says it's a lot like mine
So I try to change it when I'm at home
I didn't write about you in my college admissions essay
Under the challenges I've faced section
Not under the regrets section
Not in the areas to improve section
I put your story under my proudest achievements
Because if there is something that I never intend to do
It's grow up just like you
No matter how many girls I've ******
There isn't a single one that could pack a punch like you
Your postcards never had return addresses
But that doesn't mean I won't find you
And when I do you better hit me back
It's the least you could do

Maybe if I tell myself
I don't need you
Enough times
You will disappear
From my trapped mind

And that will be my down

                                                 fall

Moments of impact.
There was a second there before the kiss.
The ungodly hour spent
And the night of secret fireflies.

The grains in an hourglass,
     How innumerable still.
There was a time I yearn for emptiness.
This loneliness, heaped up on my chest,
And in the afternoons,
     The melancholic burn.

A glimpse of your body.
The affinities of flowers
     With the bud.
An eternity of this and that, of improbabilities,
     Or of unrequited love.

A night without a star.
     A day without the sun.

But the sun's without a day,
     Without you.*

You Just Know

How do you know that its alright
To start over once again
To pack your bags and not look back
A new journey to begin

How do you know the time has come
For you to make a change
To give yourself all you need
So you can walk away

How do you know when to go
And leave it all behind
To start out fresh with something new
Not knowing what you'll find

How do you know to say enough
You have given all you can
To know inside you did your best
And it's time for different plans

I always said inside you'll know
When that time has finally come
That you'll feel it deep within your soul
And know what must be done

So if for sure that time is now
Then you know what you must do
Turn the page on this book of life
A new chapter just for you

You Just Know

It can be a life change with a divorce a break up or simply a move. Maybe a decision that needs made that you have put off for to long or even a work change. No matter what it is you must go and do what is best for you.

There's no way I can go back
For I had lost track and broke my compass
One step and I'm lost
One turn and I'm stuck

There's no way I can be strong
For I am a tower of cards
One blow  and I fall
One shake and I break

Maybe someone could bring me light
Maybe a dint of love can help me get by
Maybe there's love in love
But there's no love in the love that I know
I need help. I am hopeless.
