I want to impress the density of reverence pulsing in my heart for the person who enraptured me by the thew of their tenderness and kindred spirit.

Holistically speaking, the volume of content in this piece is the metaphorical incarnation of the Ocean of Affection that ebbs and flows within my soul (for this individual). En la isla en que detiene su esquife el argonauta
del inmortal Ensueño, donde la eterna pauta
de las eternas liras se escucha -isla de oro
en que el tritón elige su caracol sonoro
y la sirena blanca va a ver el sol- un día
se oye el tropel vibrante de fuerza y de harmonía.

Son los Centauros. Cubren la llanura. Les siente
la montaña. De lejos, forman són de torrente
que cae; su galope al aire que reposa
despierta, y estremece la hoja del laurel-rosa.

Son los Centauros. Unos enormes, rudos; otros
alegres y saltantes como jóvenes potros;
unos con largas barbas como los padres-ríos;
otros imberbes, ágiles y de piafantes bríos,
y robustos músculos, brazos y lomos aptos
para portar las ninfas rosadas en los raptos.

Van en galope rítmico, Junto a un fresco boscaje,
frente al gran Océano, se paran. El paisaje
recibe de la urna matinal luz sagrada
que el vasto azul suaviza con límpida mirada.
Y oyen seres terrestres y habitantes marinos
la voz de los crinados cuadrúpedos divinos.
 
Calladas las bocinas a los tritones gratas,
calladas las sirenas de labios escarlatas,
los carrillos de Eolo desinflados, digamos
junto al laurel ilustre de florecidos ramos
la gloria inmarcesible de las Musas hermosas
y el triunfo del terrible misterio de las cosas.
He aquí que renacen los lauros milenarios;
vuelven a dar su lumbre los viejos lampadarios;
y anímase en mi cuerpo de Centauro inmortal
la sangre del celeste caballo paternal.
 
Arquero luminoso, desde el Zodíaco llegas;
aun presas en las crines tienes abejas griegas;
aun del dardo herakleo muestras la roja herida
por do salir no pudo la esencia de tu vida.
¡Padre y Maestro excelso! Eres la fuente sana
de la verdad que busca la triste raza humana:
aun Esculapio sigue la vena de tu ciencia;
siempre el veloz Aquiles sustenta su existencia
con el manjar salvaje que le ofreciste un día,
y Herakles, descuidando su maza, en la harmonía
de los astros, se eleva bajo el cielo nocturno...
 
La ciencia es flor del tiempo: mi padre fue Saturno.
 
Himnos a la sagrada Naturaleza; al vientre
de la tierra y al germen que entre las rocas y entre
las carnes de los árboles, y dentro humana forma,
es un mismo secreto y es una misma norma,
potente y sutilísimo, universal resumen
de la suprema fuerza, de la virtud del Numen.
 
¡Himnos! Las cosas tienen un ser vital; las cosas
tienen raros aspectos, miradas misteriosas;
toda forma es un gesto, una cifra, un enigma;

y la banda de Iris que tiene siete rayos
cual la lira en sus brazos siete cuerdas, los mayos
en la fragante tierra llenos de ramos bellos,
y el Polo coronado de cándidos cabellos.
El ixionida pasa veloz por la montaña
rompiendo con el pecho de la maleza huraña
los erizados brazos, las cárceles hostiles;
escuchan sus orejas los ecos más sutiles:
sus ojos atraviesan las intrincadas hojas
mientras sus manos toman para sus bocas rojas
las frescas bayas altas que el sátiro codicia;
junto a la oculta fuente su mirada acaricia
las curvas de las ninfas del séquito de Diana;
pues en su cuerpo corre también la esencia humana
unida a la corriente de la savia divina
y a la salvaje sangre que hay en la bestia equina.
Tal el hijo robusto de Ixión y de la Nube.
 
Sus cuatro patas bajan; su testa erguida sube.
 
Yo comprendo el secreto de la bestia. Malignos
seres hay y benignos. Entre ellos se hacen signos
de bien y mal, de odio o de amor, o de pena
o gozo: el cuervo es malo y la torcaz es buena.
 
Ni es la torcaz benigna, ni es el cuervo protervo:
son formas del Enigma la paloma y el cuervo.
 
El Enigma es el soplo que hace cantar la lira.
 
¡El Enigma es el rostro fatal de Deyanira!

La hembra humana es hermana del Dolor y la Muerte.

que el soñador aguarda: Cenis será Ceneo;
claro será el origen del femenino arcano:
la Esfinge tal secreto dirá a su soberano.
 
Naturaleza tiende sus brazos y sus pechos
a los humanos seres; la clave de los hechos
conócela el vidente; Homero con su báculo,
en su gruta Deifobe, la lengua del Oráculo.
 
El monstruo expresa un ansia del corazón del Orbe,
en el Centauro el bruto la vida humana absorbe,
el sátiro es la selva sagrada y la lujuria,
une sexuales ímpetus a la harmoniosa furia.
Pan junta la soberbia de la montaña agreste
al ritmo de la inmensa mecánica celeste;
la boca melodiosa que atrae en Sirenusa
es de la fiera alada y es de la suave musa;
con la bicorne bestia Pasifae se ayunta,
Naturaleza sabia formas diversas junta,
y cuando tiende al hombre la gran Naturaleza,
el monstruo, siendo el símbolo, se viste de belleza.
 
Yo amo lo inanimado que amó el divino Hesiodo.
 
Grineo, sobre el mundo tiene un ánima todo.
 
He visto, entonces, raros ojos fijos en mí:
los vivos ojos rojos del alma del rubí;
los ojos luminosos del alma del topacio
y los de la esmeralda que del azul espacio
la maravilla imitan; los ojos de las gemas
de brillos peregrinos y mágicos emblemas.
Amo el granito duro que el arquitecto labra
y el mármol en que duermen la línea y la palabra...
 
A Deucalión y a Pirra, varones y mujeres
las piedras aun intactas dijeron: "¿Qué nos quieres?"
 
Yo he visto los lemures florar, en los nocturnos
instantes, cuando escuchan los bosques taciturnos
el loco grito de Atis que su dolor revela
o la maravillosa canción de Filomela.
El galope apresuro, si en el boscaje miro
manes que pasan, y oigo su fúnebre suspiro.
Pues de la Muerte el hondo, desconocido Imperio,
guarda el pavor sagrado de su fatal misterio.
 
La Muerte es de la Vida la inseparable hermana.
 
La Muerte es la victoria de la progenie humana.
 
¡La Muerte! Yo la he visto. No es demacrada y mustia
ni ase corva guadaña, ni tiene faz de angustia.
Es semejante a Diana, casta y virgen como ella;
en su rostro hay la gracia de la núbil doncella
y lleva una guirnalda de rosas siderales.
En su siniestra tiene verdes palmas triunfales,
y en su diestra una copa con agua del olvido.
A sus pies, como un perro, yace un amor dormido.
 
Los mismos dioses buscan la dulce paz que vierte.
 
La pena de los dioses es no alcanzar la Muerte.
 
Si el hombre -Prometeo- pudo robar la vida,
la clave de la muerte serále concedida.
 
La virgen de las vírgenes es inviolable y pura.
Nadie su casto cuerpo tendrá en la alcoba obscura,

ni arrancará a su frente las rosas de su gloria...
 
Mas he aquí que Apolo se acerca al meridiano.
Sus truenos prolongados repite el Oceano.
Bajo el dorado carro del reluciente Apolo
vuelve a inflar sus carrillos y sus odres Eolo.
A lo lejos, un templo de mármol se divisa
entre laureles-rosa que hace cantar la brisa.
Con sus vibrantes notas de Céfiro desgarra
la veste transparente la helénica cigarra,
y por el llano extenso van en tropel sonoro
los Centauros, y al paso, tiembla la Isla de Oro.

I attempted to encapsulate the story, thematic undertones, fantasy elements, ambiance of the musical piece (of same title as piece), as well as the penitence, sorrow, hope, and mirth set out before our heroes/heroines. Ya no existe allá fiebre amarilla. ¡Me alegro!
Et pour cause. Yo pan-americanicé
con un vago temor y con muy poca fe
en la tierra de los diamantes y la dicha
tropical. Me encantó ver la vera machicha,
mas encontré también un gran núcleo cordial
de almas llenas de amor, de ensueños, de ideal.
Y si había un calor atroz, también había
todas las consecuencias y ventajas del día,
en panorama igual al de los cuadros y hasta
igual al que pudiera imaginarse... Basta.
Mi ditirambo brasileño es ditirambo
que aprobaría su marido. Arcades ambo.Mas el calor de ese Brasil maravilloso,
tan fecundo, tan grande, tan rico, tan hermoso,
a pesar de Tijuca y del cielo opulento,
a pesar de ese foco vivaz de pensamiento,
a pesar de Nabuco, embajador, y de
los delegados panamericanos que
hicieron posible por hacer cosas buenas,
saboreé lo ácido del saco de mis penas;
quiero decir que me enfermé. La neurastenia

descubro desde la terraza de mi villa,
que se alza entre las flores de su jardín fragante,
con un monte detrás y con la mar delante.A veces me dirijo al mercado, que está
en la Plaza Mayor. (¿Qué Coppée, no es verdá?)
Me rozo con un núcleo crespo de muchedumbre
que viene por la carne, la fruta y la legumbre.
Las mallorquinas usan una modesta falda,
pañuelo en la cabeza y la trenza a la espalda.
Esto, las que yo he visto, al pasar, por supuesto.
Y las que no la lleven no se enojen por esto.
He visto unas payesas con sus negros corpiños,
con cuerpos de odaliscas y con ojos de niños;

como si se me entrase con el respiro el mundo.

las cosas que le dijo la Rosa a la Pimienta...

y la lucha y la gloria del mallorquín de hierro!

Vista linda: aguas bellas, luz dulce y tierra fresca.¡Ah, señora, si fuese posible a algunos el
dejar su Babilonia, su Tiro, su Babel,
para poder venir a hacer su vida entera
en esa luminosa y espléndida ribera!Hay no lejos de aquí un archiduque austriaco
que las pomas de Ceres y las uvas de Baco
cultiva, en un retiro archiducal y egregio.
Hospeda como un monje -y el hospedaje es regio-.
Sobre las rocas se alza la mansión señorial
y la isla le brinda ambiente imperial.Es un pariente de Jean Orth. Es un atrida
que aquí ha encontrado el cierto secreto de su vida.
Es un cuerdo. Aplaudamos al príncipe discreto
que aprovecha a la orilla del mar ese secreto.
La isla es florida y llena de encanto en todas partes.
Hay un aire propicio para todas las artes.
En Pollensa ha pintado Santiago Rusiñol
cosas de flor de luz y de seda de sol.
Y hay villa de retiro espiritual famosa:
la literata Sand escribió en Valldemosa
un libro. Ignoro si vino aquí con Musset,
y si la vampiresa sufrió o gozó, no sé*.¿Por qué mi vida errante no me trajo a estas sanas
costas antes de que las prematuras canas
de alma y cabeza hicieran de mí la mezcolanza
formada de tristeza, de vida y esperanza?

Tus dientes son el pulcro y nimio litoral
por donde acompasadas navegan las sonrisas,
graduándose en los tumbos de un parco festival.
Sonríes gradualmente, como sonríe el agua
del mar, en la rizada fila de la marea,
y totalmente, como la tentativa de un
Fiat Lux para la noche del mortal que te vea.
Tus dientes son así la más cara presea.
Cuídalos con esmero, porque en ese cuidado
hay una trascendencia igual a la de un Papa
que retoca su encíclica y pule su cayado.
Cuida tus dientes, cónclave de granizos, cortejo
de espumas, sempiterna bonanza de una mina,
senado de cumplidas minucias astronómicas,
y maná con que sacia su hambre y su retina
la docena de Tribus que en tu voz se fascina.
Tus dientes lograrían, en una rebelión,
servir de proyectiles zodiacales al déspota
y hacer de los discordes gritos, un orfeón;
del motín y la ira, inofensivos juegos,
y de los sublevados, una turba de ciegos.
Bajo las sigilosas arcadas de tu encía,
como en un acueducto infinitesimal,
pudiera dignamente el más digno mortal
apacentar sus crespas ansias... hasta que truene
la trompeta del Ángel en el Juicio Final.
Porque la tierra traga todo pulcro amuleto
y tus dientes de ídolo han de quedarse mondos
en la mueca erizada del hostil esqueleto,
yo los recojo aquí, por su dibujo neto
y su numen patricio, para el pasmo y la gloria
de la humanidad giratoria.
Yo vengo de un brumoso país lejano,
regido por un viejo monarca triste...
Mi numen sólo busca lo que es arcano,
mi numen sólo adora lo que no existe.
Tú lloras por un sueño que está lejano,
tú aguardas un cariño que ya no existe,

como dos alas negras, y estás muy triste.
Eres mía: nacimos de un mismo arcano
y vamos, desdeñosos de cuanto existe,
en pos de ese brumoso país lejano,
regido por un viejo monarca triste...
La Mancha y sus mujeres... Argamasilla, Infantes
Esquivias, Valdepeñas, La novia de Cervantes,
y del manchego heroico, el ama y la sobrina
(el patio, la alacena, la cueva y la cocina,
la rueca y la costura, la cuna y la pitanza),
la esposa de don Diego y la mujer de Panza,
la hija del ventero, y tantas como están
bajo la tierra, y tantas que son y que serán
encanto de manchegos y madres de españoles
por tierras de lagares, molinos y arreboles.   Es la mujer manchega garrida y bien plantada,
muy sobre sí doncella, perfecta de casada.   El sol de la caliente llanura vinariega
quemó su piel, mas guarda frescura de bodega
su corazón. Devota, sabe rezar con fe
para que Dios nos libre de cuanto no se ve.
Su obra es la casa -menos celada que en Sevilla,
más gineceo y menos castillo que en Castilla-.
Y es del hogar manchego la musa ordenadora;
alinea los vasares, los lienzos alcanfora;
las cuentas de la plaza anota en su diario,
cuenta garbanzos, cuenta las cuentas del rosario.   ¿Hay más?  Por estos campos hubo un amor de fuego,
dos ojos abrasaron un corazón manchego.   ¿No tuvo en esta Mancha su cuna Dulcinea?
¿No es el Toboso patria de la mujer idea
del corazón, engendro e imán de corazones,
a quien varón no impregna y aun parirá varones?   Por esta Mancha -prados, viñedos y molinos-
que so el igual del cielo iguala sus caminos,
de cepas arrugadas en el tostado suelo
y mustios pastos como raído terciopelo:
por este seco llano de sol y lejanía,
en donde el ojo alcanza su pleno mediodía
(un diminuto bando de pájaros puntea
el índigo del cielo sobre la blanca aldea,
y allá se yergue un soto de verdes alamillos,
tras leguas y más leguas de campos amarillos),
por esta tierra, lejos del mar y la montaña,
el ancho reverbero del claro sol de España,
anduvo un pobre hidalgo ciego de amor un día
-amor nublóle el juicio: su corazón veía-.   Y tú, la cerca y lejos, por el inmenso llano
eterna compañera y estrella de Quijano,
lozana labradora fincada en tus terrones
-oh madre de manchegos y numen de visiones-,
viviste, buena Aldonza, tu vida verdadera
cuando ta amante erguía su lanza justiciera,
y en tu casona blanca ahechando el rubio trigo.Aquel amor de fuego era por ti y contigo.     Mujeres de la Mancha con el sagrado mote

El hombre de estos campos que incendia los pinares
y su despojo aguarda como botín de guerra,
antaño hubo raído los negros encinares,
talado los robustos robledos de la sierra.
      Hoy ve a sus pobres hijos huyendo de sus lares;
la tempestad llevarse los limos de la tierra
por los sagrados ríos hacia los anchos mares;
y en páramos malditos trabaja, sufre y yerra.
      Es hijo de una estirpe de rudos caminantes,
pastores que conducen sus hordas de merinos
a Extremadura fértil, rebaños trashumantes
que mancha el polvo y dora el sol de los caminos.
      Pequeño, ágil, sufrido, los ojos de hombre astuto,
hundidos, recelosos, movibles; y trazadas
cual arco de ballesta, en el semblante enjuto
de pómulos salientes, las cejas muy pobladas.
      Abunda el hombre malo del campo y de la aldea,
capaz de insanos vicios y crímenes bestiales,
que bajo el pardo sayo esconde un alma fea,
esclava de los siete pecados capitales.
      Los ojos siempre turbios de envidia o de tristeza,
guarda su presa y llora la que el vecino alcanza;
ni para su infortunio ni goza su riqueza;
le hieren y acongojan fortuna y malandanza.
      El numen de estos campos es sanguinario y fiero:
al declinar la tarde, sobre el remoto alcor,
veréis agigantarse la forma de un arquero,
la forma de un inmenso centauro flechador.
      Veréis llanuras bélicas y páramos de asceta
-no fue por estos campos el bíblico jardín-:
son tierras para el águila, un trozo de planeta
por donde cruza errante la sombra de Caín.

Gift of friends in life such blessing
Invoking divination and favor upon

Cherish each and every human

Spirit inhabiting home, a numen
No need for worry, with equal concern
Care one gives, shall be returned

We simply particles, iridescent dust
Trickling behind pushing galaxies

So how we mold, blend, contour
Gives malleability to make room all
Truth be told, friend is loving conjure

de entre tanto fracaso, ellas, las diosas,
                    se salvan, infinitas.

Se hunden las cien, las mil, las incontables
                    figuras cristalinas;

de una en otra, evadiéndose, ligeras
                    permanecen las ninfas.

Tejiendo, destejiendo, permanecen
                    sobre fúlgida pista,

juegos de raudo amor, las figurantas
                    de la ópera divina.

El mar se ciñe, más y más redondo,
                    cerco de la alegría.

Y se colman de asombro, en una playa,
                    dos ojos, que lo miran.
Padre viejo y triste, rey de las divinas canciones:
son en mi camino focos de una luz enigmática
tus pupilas mustias, vagas de pensar y abstracciones,
y el límpido y noble marfil de tu testa socrática.
Flota, como el tuyo, mi afán entre dos aguijones:
alma y carne; y brega con doble corriente simpática
para hallar la ubicua beldad con nefandas uniones,
y después expía y gime con lira hierática.
Padre, tú que hallaste por fin el sendero, que, arcano,
a Jesús nos lleva, dame que mi numen doliente
virgen sea, y sabio, a la vez que radioso y humano.
Tu virtud lo libre del mal de la antigua serpiente,
para que, ya salvos al fin de la dura pelea,
laudemos a Cristo en vida perenne. Así sea.
¿Decís que la rima ya ha muerto, y que es ruido
De compás monótono, muy fuerte al oído,
Y que rotos ritmos son música interna
Para los arcanos del alma moderna?

¿Música? Mas cuándo lo que no es eufónico
Por suerte ha dejado de ser inarmónico?

Descoyuntamientos y palabrería,
No serán ni han sido jamás Poesía.
Es a sus dominios áspera la ruta,
Y todo el que quiera, su don no disfruta.
Y así como el mármol a cincel se labra,
Al esfuerzo nacen idea y palabra.
Siempre el arte es largo. Poeta o artista
No con bagatelas el lauro conquista.

Grautier dijo: «Calce la Musa un estrecho
Coturno». Y os digo, que el píe que no es hecho
A molde no holgado, rehúya la ordalia
Del verso, y que lleve más libre sandalia.

Dejad a la Musa su veste radiosa:
Las trabas del verso no tiene la prosa.
¿Y cuándo el desorden, la no coherencia,
Han sido armonía y han sido cadencia?

«Son cosas sutiles, son matices trémulos»,
Decís, «y vosotros que sois nuestros émulos
No entendéis».
                                    Es cierto. Jamás lo estrambótico
Entendemos, menos lo insulso o caótico.

¿Que usáis simbolismos? Lo diáfano es norma:
Jamás lo que el hombre retuerce o deforma.
¿Queréis que os comprendan?  Sed siempre muy claros:
Que brillen los versos cual mármol de Paros,
Y en ellos, la rima cual oro en la jagua,
O rosa de fuego temblando en el agua;
Y como el poema del BJiin cruza Elsa,
Que siga la Musa radiante y excelsa,
Dejando cual huella de luz vivos rastros,
Y orladas las sienes en polvo de astros.

Ícaro, atrevido, vio vano su anhelo....
Si no tenéis alas no intentéis el vuelo.
Quedaos en tierra si la fuerza os falta.
Es duro el ascenso. La cumbre es muy alta.
Poesía es Arte, del Arte la cima,
Y la estrofa es alma, y es ritmo y es rima.
Verdad que las reglas son difícil aula,
Mas falta no hace que entréis a la jaula;
Y de Arte y de numen al soplo y al toque
Tan sólo ha surgido la estatua del bloque.
Con sus seis primaveras muy ufana,
Quebrando con sus pies las hojas secas,
Me recitó en el campo una mañana
Mi hija mayor: Fusiles y muñecas.

Repitiendo mis versos no sabía
Que colmaba el mayor de mis antojos;
No me culpéis si oyéndola sentía,
Lágrimas en el alma y en los ojos.

¡Bien! exclamé, mi niña me interpreta
Mejor que todos aunque a nadie cuadre;
Yo juzgarla creí como poeta,
Y la estaba juzgando como padre.

Llegó la estrofa aquella en que la nombro
Y bajando hacia el suelo la mirada,
Vi de pronto ponerse, con asombro,
Su faz, más que una fresa, colorada.

¿Qué tienes? pregunté, ¿por qué
Haces eso?
¿Por qué ya nada de tu labio escucho?
Y ella me respondió, dándome un beso:
-Me callo aquí, porque te quiero mucho.

Nada valdrá tan cándida respuesta
Para el que en altas concepciones fijo,
Medir no pueda, en ocasión cual ésta,
A donde alcanza el corazón de un hijo.

Puedo deciros la verdad desnuda:
