My mother lost her oldest brother to
a car accident
that didn't mix well with liquor
and on the way to his funeral, she ran
two red lights.

Rain pours, as the car skims through the clogged streets.
In the bask of your presence, seated in the back seat I listen.
You go on and on about your thoughts, as always I'm smitten.
Your thoughts so personal yet so impersonal, giving nothing away.
A veil of carefully crafted mask guards you.
As my thoughts start to linger, wondering what is behind it.
That's when you run your fingers through your hair.
Ruffled hair, child like smile, so may words, so much enthusiasm.
I'm drawn back tempted to gaze at those pretty deep eyes.
As rain drops trail their way on the rear glass ,casting a shadow.
The occasional yellow light, as it braces you.
I'm allured by their enchanting dance on your face.
Just a touch away, so close yet so far.

I woke up this morning wanting to Die.
Not for any particular reason but because I could not weep.
The last time I cried.
Was in my car yesterday.

The world gets so much bigger than the back of his car.

It’s those times,
With final hugs and long goodbyes,
Tears that wait until the car ride
When it’s just you alone,
But for the stars above,
That you find yourself searching
For that shine across the sky
To signify
There is a chance
To wish
For one last
Goodnight.

An hour before the clock strikes 12
The city’s full of screaming we can’t escape
You pick me up in your rickety car
The engine starts, and so does my midnight dreaming

We drive around, eyes closing but we're awake
The night is as cold as it gets
And our chests feel heavy and we don’t know why
So on and on, we drive to forget

The wheels go round and round,
So do our thoughts, the sorrows bottled up inside of us
We spoke to each other, we listened
We cried together then laughed then cried again

It’s funny, the world’s deceiving
The colors in all the people we once loved faded
Yet you are the only one who’s golden
Bright in the night like all the lights

And we were vulnerable, so volatile
But those windows, side view mirrors, windshield wipers
Turned out to armour us from the coldness of the world
And nothing else mattered, as long as we were in your little car.

**I sat in the passenger seat
You stepped on the pedal, we sped away
Just to feel alive.

"Why are you frowning?" he asked
as always, I answered, "I'm okay"

Truth is
I feel like my stomach is aching
due to the bumpy ride we're taking
like every car on the road
keep crashing on ours
while he has no intention
whatsoever to make a u-turn
nor to push the break pedal
