Sin has a lovely face
but a bitter taste
Touch her you can
But you never know where you will land

Dream House
by Michael R. Burch

I have come to the house of my fondest dreams,
but the shutters are boarded; the front door is locked;
the mail box leans over; and where we once walked,
the path is grown over with crabgrass and clover.

I kick the trash can; it screams, topples over.
The yard, weeded over, blooms white fluff, and green.
The elm we once swung from leans over the stream.
In the twilight I cling with both hands to the swing.

Inside, perhaps, I hear the telephone ring
or watch once again as the bleary-eyed mover
takes down your picture. Dejected, I hover,
asking over and over, “Why didn’t you love her?”

can we talk?
no, you're busy

you need a favor?
course, i'll be there in a jiffy

pushing and pulling me
like you're waves dragging me everywhere

i love you
but i can't keep up with you doing me like this

can we talk?
can we?

i am but a human
can you love me as i am?

i have these demons, vile and viscious
can you handle them?

if i lay myself down
would you admire the scars and imperfections that my body bares?

if i pour out by heart and unleash my soul
would you cherish it all?

if i was miles away
would my words and my best be enough to make you stay?

will you accompany me
on my crazy antics

will you hold me
in my times of sorrowful blue?

will you stand with me, side by side
as i watch the world turn from each beautiful hue?

will you forgive me for the pain i may cause?
or for the burdens i may accidentally give?

i am only human
viscious yet kind

can you still love me as i am
no matter what may be my state of mind?

No, I can’t.

Yes, you can.

No, I won’t.

Yes, you will.

Just stop.

Just try.

What if I fall?

What if you fly?
Just dare to take a leap.

Sometimes you are quiet
But behind your mouth, your mind is screaming violently
Your thoughts are tearing each other apart
It's a war, one with no survivors in it

Sometimes you are quiet
Because you don't know what it is you're doing
You've got a hard shell but it's filled with air-
And a thousand cracks, one for everything you say

Sometimes you are quiet
For you are just so weary and tired
You're deaf to everything that's around you
Because you can't hear over your mind's uproar

Sometimes you are silent
But silence does not give you peace
You're only silent because you're trying
To drown out everything you've ever felt

Sometimes you are quiet
You are so quiet you fade into the shadows
You are a sliver of silver, a star, out of reach of humanity
You're a blip in time, waiting to be forgotten

Sometimes, you and I, we are the same
We had a voice, now it's lost at sea
We're phantom ghosts with pumping hearts
You and I, we just need a chance, a chance to be alive

There were situations I thought I’d never get over,
Moments where I thought I’d be never able to survive the pain, where I thought my heart would literally stop beating altogether,
These little slivers in time where I thought I’d never live to see the next day have long passed and I’m beginning to realize that my body, mind and soul are resilient.
I can get through anything and come out stronger.

I act like I can
You know about all my faults
Do not care I can't
I wish I saw myself the way you see me
