i swear these
drum beats
are the only thing
keeping my heart going

and i would run
through the rain tonight
if i thought the cars that go
around the corners too fast
really would never see
a thing

apathy
my friends
is a dangerous game
that i was never
made to play
but i was given
too sharp a lot in life
to avoid it completely

call me a terrible liar
but if you think i'm so
bad at hiding the truth
i guess you'd never know
if i suddenly
got good at it

if i thought it would
do me any good
i would jump out
the window and run

but it wouldn't do any
good when i keep finding
myself too tired to even
turn off the lights.

the watch in your pocket
keeps ticking
moving forward
the world turns
while you're lost

often the words
the caution and hate
about villains and demons
trickle through

"their goal is to hurt"
they say
of those others in the shadows
but what do you do
when you find yourself
in the darkness

it's still ticking.

There's a jukebox,
in my mind or yours,
and it plays my song --
or, maybe, it's for you.
And it says what I
never could say, which is
that I am very sorry.

I thought of how I was --
or how we were --
which was not as good
as we had hoped for.
You protected yourself
from remorse and I was
fearfully unapologetic.

You were, and, probably,
still are a cold *****, and I've
been a ******* for years.
Your nose was so crooked,
it could run for office, and
my head was -- and still is --
really big, which is fitting,
considering my ego, and
ironic, since I'm borderline
mentally-*******-*******.

There's an eroding jukebox
and its so confrontational,
due to feeling inferior,
unrecognized, and without
a responsible purpose.

The music from the machine
flows like rushing thoughts,
and the thoughts say:

I sit and write,
I don't mind you
when I don't know you.

Some people are roots,
meant to help with stability,
but you are a branch,
meant to offer a new view,
but also meant to fall off,
maybe, killing whomever
catches you next.
You're, incredibly, full of ****.

Well, of course; I have to hide, somehow.

all i want to do
is preach

about how much i don't care

like maybe
if i say it enough times

these idiots might finally believe me
i don't know why any of them are surprised anymore
they don't mean a thing to me
why should i care about them?
Peninsula Jul 2016
Once my body is sprawled across the sands
of an uninhabited island--
a peninsula that has never been owned
but owns me--

and I have been drowned twice.
When the only sensation in my body
is apathy chewing a hole through my cheeks,
I will save my last breath for you to take.

And you could breathe it back to me
if you ever find where I am
I was talking with my friend the other day about how there is that kind of love that even when you feel like all life is taken away from you, it will breathe life back to you.
Charlie Chirico Jul 2016
Inward apathy is not
to be confused with
sociopathic credence.
It's a blade held to the throat
of the man that wields it.
Never would the cold steel touch
the person who thinks of suicide
as cowardice, but believes bravery
to be disillusionment in the form
of medication, or speaking up and out
offering solutions to problems
that they do not know the variables
that come along with it.

How many teeth make up a smile?
How many lines form a frown?
If lines are infinite,
what does that tell you about
an expression that is countered by
obligatory inquisitive ambivalence.

Shoulders are for tears.
Spines are for intrepidness.
Skin is layered; tough and thick
no matter benevolent or malevolent,
a person's love is misconstrued
as skin deep, albeit it is formed
between synapses.

It's a spark, a fire, the intuition
to never say goodbye
and ignore accountability.

And one day,
Things didnt seem
So bad anymore.

Nothing really changed,
But there was a sparkle of light
Peaking through the perpetual gray clouds.

The silver linings
Were surrounding the darkness.

My whole world,
A little less dark
A little less gloomy.

But if nothing really changed,
How could anything get better?

Maybe I just got used to it.

maybe you put too much faith in me

i'm agnostic, apathetic, aromantic
and too much of an antagonist to never let you down

you could drown me,
make me suffer for my attitude;
but i'll not atone for my sins

remorse is for the empathetic
and i am just

empathetic minus the em
