when they speak of your soul
as monstrous, as unkind
i stare at them in confusion
for you don’t really come to mind

both victims of a kindless crime
it’s no surprise we lack the tender
touch that others seem to crave
to which we won’t again surrender

i’ve got diamonds in my mouth
and by your tongue were they delivered
they’re rougher, there’s no doubt,
than the look your eyes have whispered
tell me,

will you waste
your last breath
saying you're sorry

or will I drown
in your misery
while you save yourself?
she walks
focused, undisturbed
empty roads once filled with life
touching the walls of her memory
searching for one more laugh
ignoring one more cry

she remembers
as clear as the sky
a boy blond as the sun
fast as a thousand horses
but couldn’t outrun death
she still wonders why

she hears
echoing in her ears
her father’s peaceful music
the gentleness in his voice
that made her feel at home
when leaving wasn’t a choice

she sees
her mother’s stern, blue eyes
above her big, warm heart
one that in such a world
she needed to hide
to play the part

she reads
from the very first page
words that opened up her eyes
ones that never leave her mind
for they remind her of the brother
she could never leave behind

she hopes
the world doesn’t forget
all that’s written in a book
for all she really wants
is to keep alive the people
she loved while she could
dedicated to and inspired by 'The Book Thief'
loneliness becomes you
as even the rain disappears
when the sky opens up
to dry your tears
his hands are silk
his mouth is cotton
his embrace a cover
smooth and warm

tonight, for once,
you needn’t get up
from his bed of love
Light up the way
An arm around my shoulder
Guide me today
Stay until we're older

We know we can survive
Daylight won't end
*Tomorrow we'll thrive
Today we pretend
fallen leaves
float down from trees
and land on your hand

as I watch
I fall for you
will you help me stand?
