There is one thing in this world
To which a man’s worth will bind
Indulgence in it is danger, but without it,
Himself he cannot find

Without it he will starve
A life unknown from start to end
A cure of wealth and fame and power
A flavorful, fatal blend

Of sauces rich and rare
Served upon a silver plate
A careful cliff down which he stares
Of his self-fulfilling fate

Without this sustenance, he wanders
But at what grueling cost?
The man himself, if he is gluttonous,
May become lost in the sauce
"If a man does not have the sauce, then he is lost. But the same man can be lost in the sauce" - Gucci Mane

He wants to go on a southern night
And for me and her that feels just right
We’ll feel him free with the trees
Let him linger among the leaves
Then bid him bye with the breeze
He asked we let go on a southern night
Since it’s always when we felt just right
Because us and this favor is all he needs

Forever Yours
jer Aug 2019
I’ll give my spirit for you
Because when you’re down
I’m forever your fool
Ask me if I will dance
And I’ll give you a second chance
I won’t stop until you’re pleased
With my whole body’s abstract grief
I won’t stop until I’m dead
And my feet are burning fiery red

I’ll never care if you fall short
Because you’re my king
And I am your court
If you told me to take
Another heart and make it break
I won’t stop until it shatters
And serve it to you on a golden platter
I won’t stop until I’m dead
To make sure that you’re well fed

I’ll let you do what’s best for her
Because you’re my king
And I’m forever your jester
Tell me that you don’t know
I’ll tell you to please let me go
I won’t stop until you leave
Even when I’m too tired to grieve
I won’t stop until I’m dead
And have erased myself from your head

I’ll be here when you must be found
Because you’re my ringmaster
And I’m your best clown
Tell me that she’s what’s right
I’ll never try to put up a fight
I won’t stop until you’ll see
You don't have to be here for me
I won’t stop until I’m dead
And my circus act is for now to bed

But whenever and whatever you need me for
I hope you know that I am forever yours

Dear Little Girl,

Right now, you just stare
At the ceiling, at the wall,
Wondering if your hair
Will ever look pretty at all
Will it ever one day be tame?
I think you’ll be happy to know
That the bigger you grow
It’ll be more beautiful
But look exactly the same
This one’s about self acceptance and growth, featuring one of my all time biggest insecurities—my hair

He talks like autumn—
walks like he is the breeze
that blew out the sun
and knocked down the leaves.

Winter was too quiet
and it was far too cold,
when I was defiant
and became far too bold.

So next was the spring
and I was a flower,
but I could only grow
if there were a few showers.

Summer was too strong
and I was set on fire;
the days were far too long
and the heat left me tired.

I froze in winter
and melted in the sun
and spring's far too teary
to have any fun.

But in the autumn,
when it's not too hot or cold,
that is the season in which
I want to grow old.
this is about boys if you couldn't tell

The Lark
jer Aug 2018
I beat the sunrise.
It can’t outrun me
when I’m up all night.

And secretly
the energy
in my personality
is the courtesy
of the adrenaline in
the morning
that’s been lasting
since 3 AM.

Every time the sky glows
my body knows
how it always goes.

My goosebumps raise
until the jealous sun’s rays,
flaming around laze,
come to whisper the day,
and they often say
the morning is “mine”
and now it’s time—
because they call me the Lark—
for me to tell,
on branches from which I fell,
the day to start.

I hit my head going to bed.
Now I’ll be awake
even when I’m dead.

And secretly I’ve
always liked
the fright of night
and spite
of all things bright,
often unkind,
in this sour mind
of mine.

Every time the veil lifts,
this is it,
how I can’t quit.

My feathers jump
and the sun’s always stumped,
traveling slowly up,
why I haven’t yet done
the morning fun
as I reluctantly climb,
and now it’s time—
because they call me the Lark,—
for me to tell,
on branches from which I fell,
the day to start.
I want to be someone else. But I’m trapped being a Lark, putting on the facade, stuck in the same routine doing the same thing everyday and it’s not what I want to do—not who I want to be. But what other choice do I have?

Dollar Bill
jer Jul 2018
Nothing travels faster than money—
      And I’m a dollar bill
      From hand to hand
      Across lakes and land
You rid me at your will

I’ve traveled in air and underground—
      And I’ve seen every state
      Every wallet, every store
      When I become a bore
      You spend me, won’t hesitate

I’m dropped, lost, and found in small places—
      A toddler’s piggy bank
      Lose me anywhere
      But to a millionaire
      What difference do I make?

I have been in every back alley—
      Given away in the dark,
      Tackled in the mud,
      Responsible for blood,
But don’t even make a mark

I can’t remember everywhere I’ve been—
      Every day a different fate
      Through the gutter
      From one to another
      You won’t hold my weight

I’m there when you need water—
      And when you need food
      But in the end
      Just follow the trend
You forget I was ever used

People make themselves slaves for me—
      But then I’m thrown away
      Worth less every year
      After holding me dear
You just replace me the next day

I’m only worth something when used—
      And that’s always proved
      Time and time again
I lie to me but then
Always find that it’s my truth

I was created for it, made to be used—
Now I’m ripped apart and torn
      Beaten, trampled, stolen
      Until I am broken
Far beyond how I was born

I think I am alone, then I somehow find—
      Billions of me out there
      So try to remember
      A million of me together
      Can break a millionaire
Everyone uses me so here, have a metaphor:

I don’t care how
or care what you do
to make it happen;
I just told you
make me shine
so slather me in turpentine.

I want the sun to shrink
and the world turn dark,
when she’ll no longer rise
after she rests her eyes
upon my fiery spark.

I want the moon to swoon
and raise the tides
when he looks for the sun,
but instead
it’s my beauty that he finds.

I want the stars to bow down
and shower me in gold
when I shine brighter
and reach higher
than the stars of old.

I want storms to make
the world stir
when I walk upon
their earth,
no matter what it’ll take.

I don’t care
if it kills me;
just answer my plea.
I just want, so badly,
to shine,
so slather me in turpentine.

I think
in rhyme.
I think
I am—
I know
I’m Time.

I was here
and I’ll be
here after.
when I cry
moves faster.

So please pardon
the jargon
I speak,
because if
I cry
the year will end
in a week.

I’m crazy—
I’ll tell you
it’s true,
but for
every lie
I’ll cry
for you.

Cry for you,
my love,
you’ll never see
what I am
and shall
forever be.

It’s almost
as if
you are blind
because you
don’t know—
I am Time.

This is a man
no other has yet seen.
I want to keep him forever
but he’s not mine to keep.

His face is new and young;
what an angel I have found.
This man is with no sin.
His feet have never touched the ground.

I won’t let him go
now that he’s seen me with those eyes
and now when I look deeper,
I can see that they are mine.

His cries are sweet and soft
like his heartbeats in his rest.
I feel his gentle skin stroke my own
as I hold him against my breast.

I love him with all my body;
my heart and chest, they ache.
He gives me warmth and heat
that I refuse to let them take.

This is a human,
a human I have sold.
He should be mine forever,
but now I’m freezing cold.
I hope you can tell what this is about with me explaining but some people say I write obscurely. Also, I’m trying this new thing in poetry: punctuation! I’ve never liked using it before in poetry but now I’m kind of liking it.

I swear I’m still human
Please ignore my claws
I swear I’m still human
Can’t you see my flaws?

I’m still not the same
Since I got caught in the rain
Now there’s the Thing that’s riding on my back
Watching to repeat all the ways that humans act

I swear I’m no monster
I live like people do
I swear I’m no monster
They don’t live passed twenty-two

I’m the old me you know
Just a little meaner now though
Now I don’t eat anymore when I’m hungry
The Thing on my back thinks food looks ugly

I’m not a monster
Overlook the rotten teeth
I’m not a monster
I smiled just last week

I’ll never be the same
Since I was blinded in the rain
I don’t know how but now the Thing is my master
It rides on my back and kicks me yelling, “faster!”

I might be a monster
But who can ever tell?
I might be a monster
Now I’m going to hell
what is the Thing?

Oh shame on you”

I plead a thousand times
There’s nothing I could do

I told him
I’d rather by dead
I really told him
That’s what I said

If I’d worn my dress longer
Or fought a little stronger
It was really my fault
It could’ve been stopped

Shame on me, I couldn’t see
One bottle less
Anything but that dress

(Oh God
Where were you
When dirt touched my skin
When he let himself in?)

One bottle less
A longer dress...

I’m very sorry
To bother you, at all
But this is really
Actually my fault

Oh glittering star in the night sky
Can you hear my forsaken cry?
Your sparkling sisters and beautiful brothers
Betrayed our kind fathers and loving mothers

Your fires in the sky of stories untold
Gleaming and shining molten gold
Heroes we see in the nighttime
Scattered diamond dust, glittering grime

Magellan’s guide to places unknown
Lights that illuminated Elizabeth’s throne
There before Caesar’s empire fell to dust
There before Solomon’s silver turned to rust

Our sobs at night turned to awe
Because your brilliant glow that we saw
You’re an angel’s halo, a poet’s tale
Beacons of hope cutting night’s black veil

We wished on your light, gave our dreams
Now in return, all we hear are our screams
Because of your dazzling light in the pure dark
Growing closer now with a different spark

Stifled silence, a war plane’s hum
Whispers of a war that can’t be won
Our horrifying nights, our respite days
Glorious stars now a distant haze

Moving faster, a shooting star
Close to my eyes, once from afar
Breathless panic, the scent of smoke
An infant's cry, the fear you woke

I feel the earth shake, the sky on fire
I look to the stars we once would admire
But alas I see your bombs in the night sky
And now you’ve silenced my forsaken cry

My father kneels down for pennies
As soon as they hit the floor
My mother bleeds for a country
Where she dreamt rich and lived poor

My father lives with callouses
On his wisened, worked rough hands
My mother left for a new life
Left strife for strife in new lands

My sister pretends no struggle
Has ever touched her young days
My brother repeats the pattern
With his own wife and his ways

My sister laughs, smiles, and lives
Her cries beneath her perfect teeth
My brother works beside father
But for his child he fakes a feast

Myself I promise just millions
Although I am now still weak
My smile enchants, eyes alive
My tongue quick, silver, and sleek

Myself in search for a devil
Believing he can help me
In his filthy gold I revel
