Witch Hunt
Violante Holmes Apr 2015
In history class, we learned about witches.
About them being hunted down.
We were told this was all a misconception.
That true witches were never to be found.

But I know the real truth,
The one everyone says is wrong.
That while witches may be fake,
The witch hunts are still going strong.

People Watching
Violante Holmes May 2015
People watching is interesting,
At least most of the time.
As long as you don't find yourself
Watching a crime.

There are short people.
Tall people.
Large people.
Small people.
But that's only on the outside.

For if you look deeper in,
If you glance a little longer than accepted,
You'll see something
You may not have expected.

Are they happy?
Sad?
Are they in a good mood?
Are they horribly mad?

Do they love the person next to them,
With a burning of desire?
Or would they rather instead
Light that person on a pyre?

You can people watch,
All day and all night.
But I warn you that what you see
Might cause you a fright.

Good And Evil
Violante Holmes Apr 2015
The screams of the ******.
The laughter of the saved.
All of the people
Laid down in their graves.

But now, in this world
Where morals have shifted,
The consequences of evil
Have somehow been lifted.

Those who have done wrong
Aren't always caught.
Those who have done good
Are sometimes fought.

Because good and evil are truly just sides.
*Only now, those are the sides people are trying to hide.
This isn't Hide and Go Seek, idiots.

To The Death
Violante Holmes May 2015
Small glances.
Sent around the room.
At my fellow companions,
Ready to face their doom.

Short breaths.
Staring at the lion in its cage.
Preparing myself,
Preparing to face its deadly rage.

What have I done?
To end up in this place?
Was it to save my family?
Or just to save face?

I suppose I shall never know
The real reason why.
For the only time I will leave this hell-hole
Will be the time I die.
I've been to the  Colosseum, or Coliseum, before and it is definitely intimidating. To imagine servants being thrown out in front of 50,000-80,000 spectators to fight to the death...

The Darkness Within
Violante Holmes Apr 2015
Have you ever looked behind your door?
Under your bed?
In your closet?
And for what?

Do you search for a horrifying monster?
With fangs and fur and glowing eyes?
Do you see it, sometimes?

In the foggy recesses before sleep in your mind?
And can you be certain if it’s real or just another dream?

But what if this monster looks different?
What if it looks perfectly ‘normal’?
What if it lives in your house?
What if it teaches you?
What if it loves you?

*What if it is you?
I wrote this for a profile on a game....

People.
Violante Holmes Apr 2015
People tell us that
People are good, that
People are strong, that
People do wrong, but
People will right it.

I say that
People are good, but only if they try.
I say that
People are strong, but their strength isn't always a good thing.
I say that
People are wrong, and sometimes they don't accept it.
I say that
People don't always right their wrongs.
I say that
**People aren't perfect.
I also say that people are jerks that really need to get a whack on the side of the head, but that wouldn't have worked with the poem.

Looking in the Mirror
Violante Holmes Apr 2015
When you look in the mirror,
What do you see?
Someone strong and beautiful,
Someone happy and free?

Someone alone in the world,
Someone who looks like a fright,
Someone who curls up alone in their bed at night?

Do you see beauty?
Do you feel disgust?
Do you see someone
Whose life has gone to rust?

I see strength and sadness,
Loneliness and freedom.
I see someone who lives
In a forgotten kingdom.

You see what you want,
From the mirror you look at.
But others see different,

They don't see 'fat'.
They don't see 'ugly'.
They don't see 'dumb'.

They see 'strong'.
They see 'unique'.
They see things you cannot see,
No matter how hard you blink.

So don't trust your mirror,
No matter what you find.
For your looks in the reflection
Are all in your mind.

A Reveal of Secrets.
Violante Holmes Apr 2015
A tangle of lies.
An unknown secret.
Once you find out,
Can you keep it?

The secrets I keep,
The things I've done.
To hide them all,
I've told no one.

I'm telling you
To let it go.
I know what will happen
If I don't do so.

It'll eat me up,
It'll make me cry.
I'll feel almost like
I want to die.

So save me now,
With your words and smiles.
I hope you sit down,
This might take a while.

The secrets I keep.
The reasons I weep.
The worries and fears that drive an anchor so deep.

I release them to you,
My friend so dear.
I hope that afterwards,
My life will become more clear.

I wish people would listen.
Wish they'd pay attention to my words.
But people are so selfish sometimes.
I know all they see is their woe.

It's annoying, at least.
I wish they would hear.
I'm shouting as loud as I can,
But nobody's there.

I feel like a child
Having a tantrum at the mall.
Except this time,
Nobody seems to care at all.

So I resort to watching as they walk to and fro.
And I wish they would notice,
For even a mo.
I tried so hard not to rhyme. So. Hard.

Reap What You Sow
Violante Holmes Apr 2015
They called me a liar.
They called me a joke.
They threw me into the river.
They allowed me to choke.

They watched as I struggled.
They laughed as I fell.
They acted unknowing.
As they made my life hell.

So now, I am back.
To reap what they sowed.
They'll regret it.
Regret the hate that overflowed.

I'll watch as they struggle.
I'll laugh as they fall.
I'll throw them to their knees.
I'll make them all crawl.

And then they will see.
They will finally see.
That the hatred they held.
*Is now all in me.
And it tastes like orange juice.

The Book of Life
Violante Holmes Apr 2015
There is a book, somewhere.
That holds the answers to life.

It explains why we live,
It explains why we die.

It explains every question thought and spoken.

But no one will ever find it.

Because if someone found a book like this,
A book with all of the right answers, all of the correct reasons,
How would that person continue?

The book of life can't be found.
Because if it is,
We will lose our most valuable possession.

*Creativity.

Love.
Violante Holmes Apr 2015
I don't understand it.
I try and I try, but it makes no sense.

All that I've heard
About love is the pain.
Nobody ever seems
To speak about the gain.

The only ones who care
To tell me the happy parts
Are the ones who have not
Yet experienced broken hearts.

So while others wait
For that one perfect mate.
I think I'd rather read
Than go on a date.
Unless they bring dates. Dates are delicious.

Their lives all going different places.
Though all of them will find time to die.

Angelic
Violante Holmes May 2015
We've all learned about angels,
The celestial myth.
But we don't seem to realize,
That they can be people we're with.

They're with us when we're born.
But usually not there when we die.
They take care of our injuries.
They hold us when we cry.

Sometimes they're good.
Sometimes they're bad.
Sometimes they comfort you when you're sad.

They're different for each of us,
We all have the chance to be one.
They are unique, yet share the same qualities.
Qualities that sometimes make them fun.

And yes, there are times when you hate them.
When you want them to leave you alone.
But there are always times, when no one cares.
When they're the only one to throw you a bone.

They aren't perfect,
But no one is.
They're known as your mother,
*And right now, someone who deserves a kiss.
Happy Mother's Day!

You Know Nothing
Violante Holmes Apr 2015
I am not as naïve as you believe.
You look at me and you do not see what I see.

I see fire.
I see hate.
I see love.
I see fate.

I see things you cannot imagine.
I think thoughts you cannot think.
You believe you know me well.

*But that is a lie, and it is weak.
Just as weak as every Yo Mama joke I've ever heard.
