Have you ever fallen in love?
It feels like you're starving
and so full
of light.

Like you're dying
but you're living
inside.

Thank God,
I found My One
That night.

Sweet,
Oily, rich,
Melts in your hand,
Manufactured,
And probably not safe,
But O, you crave it.

Cold,
Pain and pleasure,
In every flavor,
Melting,
Quickly gone,
But it's worth it.

Small,
With a swirl of-
Sugary goodness,
Crumbling,
And all yours,
Who would want to share?

Salty,
Seasoned and savory,
You can't eat just one,
Crunch!
Crisp, inviting,
And enough to share.

Do I give up on love altogether
Or do I hope that It makes us both better?
Are we better together or better apart?
Does it really even matter after a broken heart?

Do I pretend none of it even happened
After all that I’ve taken for granted?
Like the food on my table and the roof over my head.
I’m not the one starving, and I’m not the one dead.

Do I act as if everything’s fine?
Though everyone can see through those lies.
I can try to fake a smile and seem alright
If it’ll help you be the one to sleep at night.

Do I move on and find another
Or stay alone, hoping things will get better?
Are we better together or better apart?
Does it really even matter after a broken heart?

You're dying inside,
'Cause it's inside your mind,
You say that you're fine,
But you're not 'cause you're dying.

A smile on your face,
As your demons they chase,
What's left of your mind,
But now they can't find,
Any more of your mind,
'Cause it's lost,
So you cry.

You cry 'cause you're dying,
And you're dying while you're crying,
And it's not worth the time,
You think to yourself,
It's not worth the time,
You put in your life,
So inside your mind,
You decide that you'll die,
And you pick up the knife
Then you end your life.

your body is a temple,
they tell me,
but still I do not eat.
it is a temple which I do not pray to,
it is a temple where my insides pray for food,
where my mind prays to feel something,
anything.
so I feed it anything that will plant hedges in my mind,
to shadow the burning house that it has become,
so no one notices and calls for help,
even if only for a few minutes,
but I do not feed it anything which will allow my body to grow,
I have cut down all the trees,
even though oxygen is scarce,
there are factories pumping smoke throughout me,
pollution is heavy,
as heavy as my body feels most nights,
weighing down the earth,
and I am only noticing now,
how hard it has become to breathe.

The world watches you fall,
the largest proven oil reserves
but you couldn’t call out to your brothers
acknowledge your mistake
so that you may grow.

You **** children,
hunger grips every mother
and fathers struggle with
children of eight trying to earn a wage.

Your country is ****** up
holding it pride to its chest
waving the flag never admitting that
their force has killed eight thousand
or that their children are in hospitals
starving.

Kenyerber Aquino Merchán,
less than two starved to death
because hospitals have no formula
to feed the innocent.

Spine and rib cage protruding,
mourners with wildflowers from the hills,
and relatives cut out a pair
of cardboard wings from
empty white ration boxes.

Let you pass away,
sleeping now under my wings,
we’ll conger the wind
and ease the president's pride,
he is hiding under the cover
cowering the corner -
he has no one else to blame.
I broke down in tears writing this - I wrote it because of this article https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/12/17/world/americas/venezuela-children-starving.html - I don't know how to help because the president refuses to accept international help apart from loans from Russia which barely hold the country a float. So I did the only thing I know how to do to help - write.

It's been five days
Since I've had a proper meal.
I won't eat.
Those three words don't mean
I won't eat at all,
Only enough so I don't die.
I eat a bowl of fruit and a sandwich everyday.
Lots of beverages!
Don't forget!
I've learned to like the feeling of my empty stomach.
I am now conscious of the feeling of my bones.
It's been five days since I have had a proper meal.
Weird how in so little time I'm already feeling thin.
I don't look different I know, but I feel different.
I know it's not healthy but maybe one more day.
One more day and you might like me.
One more day and you might like me the way you like her.
The tall thin one.
I won't eat
Because you didn't know how much it killed me when you looked at her the way I looked at you.
Maybe next time you see me you'll ask, "how did you do it? What happened?"
 And I will simply reply,
I won't eat.
This was written a few months ago, it's irrelevant now, at least for me.
