I aspire for the ambition of a mother:
lifelong and untiring.
Ambition to realise her passion:
and persisting all hours
with no reflection on reward
but for the pleasure of the pursuit
of her God-given trust
- and so to serve royals
and her King
with contentment.
Then uniting with Him after a life well lived,
with lives better lived for knowing her.
Proverbs 22:29 and Proverbs 31:1
Sleeping dogs are kicked
just to hear them bark
we stare at the sun
and stay in the dark

the dead men tell tales
and we make our horses drink
a rolling stone gathers moss
and **** doesn't stink

we are better sorry than safe
the sword is mightier than the pen
practice never makes perfect
it's all just pretend

two wrongs make a right
never is better than late
we don't see our own sight
we are what we hate

we look gift horses in the mouth
while birds of a feather peck each others eyes out
if every cloud has a silver lining
that's gonna make for some heavy rain
underneath this sky, i am finding
myself being crushed, and drenched in pain

Reached in and picked a winner
from your box of stock phrases.
Finding ways
to roll zero on 2d6.
You ******' missed
                        "**** the bed!"
I guess you're no Kenny Rogers.
Longer losing streaks familiar
to the wisdom of a betting man.

"Carpe Diem" on your calf,
laugh your way to the bank.
But put a stutter on your chuckle
'til the day they seize your wages.
If it "happens for a reason,"
fold your cards and hold your tongue in.
                           Hold your tongue and
                           clamp your teeth.

"What it is is what it is."
That's a "tautology."
They taught me that one in college,
when I took critical theory!
If you seek an explanation,
you're just critically faulting
                           on your dice rolls
                           and your debts.

Reached in and hit the bottom
of your box of stock phrases.
Finding ways
to keep afloat on empty words.
You ******' missed.
                           "Feeling blessed?"
Turns out you're no Kenny Rogers.
Longer losing streaks familiar
to the wisdom of a betting man.

a wise young man once shared with me a proverb
“a fox which chases two rabbits will catch neither.”
I’ve been calling you a fox ever since
the weather got too cold for baby blue forget-me-nots
nothing good ever happened in a month like May
but you were my rusty fox
I couldn’t catch you that rainy day
or that frosty night, my love
for fear of crushing inadvertently
an annual bloom.

perhaps you were doomed to be perennial
but you followed me into libraries
and around street corners
I followed you down the alleyways of our city
and through doors;
that only ever led to too little, too late
for which I am truly sorry.

just, please. this time
believe me when I say
I gave everything to you I could
I crossed so many lines too many
but here I stood
silently shouting at you
to love me,
to need me,
to adore me again -
shortly before the weight of the futility
of so much past came to light.

you are the poetry in my poems
you brought the fire, and I brought the fuel
we were almost an experimental pair  -
but you were the wind
and I was driftwood
splinters of me scattered all across the bay
and when you turned,
you forgot how to whistle
the tune we always had.
and I lost sight of you
when the waters stilled too much
for me to be able to feel you there
and be carried along with you.

it is said that
“a fox which chases two rabbits will catch neither.”
but I am done with chasing rabbits
and watering tulip and muscari bulbs in the October springtime
I am willing to put the image of my sun-kissed fox
behind me.

I want September sunshine
I need red sunset
I’ll pursue a crashing wave
and fly into the face of a glowing inferno
I want you
I need you
I will let you love me
I will let you love me

as I rip and tear these lifelines to shreds
as I dissect my heart in an attempt
to figure out where it all went wrong
I’ll keep looking for you
between paving stones
I’ll keep searching for you
inside cracks in brick walls
I’ll keep seeking you
in whatever way I know how

that since something so remarkable
does not allow itself to be forgotten
it also does not allow itself
to become part of the past.
perhaps it was foretold months in advance
maybe my snapdragon self is now part of his past
but you have not left my prayers since you chose to leave
and I still cannot bring myself to stop loving you.

I should have known you would destroy my life
But alas, I didn't
I thought you were my best friend
You told people they couldn't trust me
They believed you
You turned my real best friend against me
I found myself unable
To even talk to someone
Without them mentioning your name
I chose to be snippy
And paint you in a bad light
Because I was moving anyway
I got in trouble for being mean
Someone asked how I could be so crude
It's because I didn't know better
But now that I am gone
It turns out all the mean things I said
Were accurate
"Do not make friends with a hot-tempered man, do not associate with one easily angered, or you may learn his ways and get yourself ensnared."

Rumors whispered through the halls
By people with no good to say
She wonders why she must go to school
If she comes home and cries every day
She prays when she gets home from school
After she throws the backpack on the floor
God is the only true friend she has
Her friends call her a bore
The people tease her for the clothes
The bible tells her to wear
Modesty is one of her core values
Being teased for it is no fair
Why must others bring her down
For being a child of Christ?
They are the same, everyone is
But not all of them are nice
Strength comes from knowing that
What you believe is true
The sabbath she holds dear to her heart
Means more than the words they spew
So with a bible in one hand
She can walk through the hall
Knowing that strong girls like her survive
And the weaker ones will fall.
“With their words, the godless destroy their friends, but knowledge will rescue the righteous.”

Many daughters have done well
But you excel them all

You have respect for yourself and others
And act with honor and dignity

Your smile lights up the room
Making people want to smile back

You're always there for others
With open arms and ears

You've been a friend when others need it
And reality at the same time

You bless the world with your existence
And the world blesses you daily

A woman with strength
Is the best type of woman

No matter what you may look like
You are beautiful

For you radiate the light of the world
In a single smile
"Many daughters have done well but you excel them all."
- Proverbs 31:29
Emma Chatonoir Nov 2014
I thought you tried to make me smile everyday
Because you liked the sight of my smile
I had no idea you were just trying
To cement yourself as my friend
So that when the bullying started
You could say anything you wanted
And I would still tell people you were my friend

Truth is, I always admired you
You were easily one of the prettiest girls I'd ever seen
I know you were going through a rough time in life
And I wanted to be your friend
Although I haven't seen you in two years
People tell me that you aren't as pretty as I remembered
Life caught up to you

What blows my mind
Is that you always say you only live once
So in your teenage years
You continue to wreck havoc on your life
It would be one thing if you dyed your hair
And got a few piercings
Those can be removed
But you drink and smoke and call yourself a popular girl
While endangering your child
You say only God will judge you
And you will live how you please
I can only imagine the judgment that will come
In a few years

You say you'll go to heaven
But that is for the people
Who use their hardships to create something positive
But instead
You drink the paycheck that should help your son
Smoke the problems away
And wonder why the people with strong morals
Won't go near you.
"Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the LORD will be greatly praised."
- Proverbs 31:30
Emma Chatonoir Nov 2014
I want to be a famous person
Let fame come to me overnight
I don't want to work to hard for it
No need to have a fair fight
Privilege should come to me just because
I was blessed with good genes
Wanting all the resources to be mine
Living way above my means
I want to do the least amount of work
To get the most amount of fame
Getting stopped wherever I go
I want people to know my name
But apparently that won't happen
As now I stay in school
I should be jetting off to Paris
But I sit here like a fool
Apparently I should study more
I could change the world for good
But with the allure of sparkles and gold
Have fame rather, I would
So as I study late one night
Something finally clicks
What if I invented something to change the world
With just a few simple tricks?
I put in all my effort after that
To make something to impact
Everyone around me, and years later
People wonder why they lacked
Now the fame has come to me
Since the day I started to work
I stopped waiting for fame to come
It doesn't come when you lurk
I may not have wanted to do a lot of work
But someone had other plans
I guess I should be proud of what I did
With my own two hands.
Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails.
