I swear
I don't drink

but it's 2:19am and
I'm ******* wasted.

I swear
I've been clean

but please don't
pull up my sleeves.

I swear
I take my meds

but don't look
in the trashcan.

I swear
I'm fine

but do you really
still believe me?
I sent you a bouquet of words,
But you wanted flowers.

I promise they will outgrow any bud,
Into the tallest of towers.

Trauma decides
The fake smiles,
And happy lies.
The broken promises,
And tear filled eyes.
If we’re just fine,
Or if we’re not alive.

I did make
They are mine
I did break
All every time
My mistakes were mine to make
'For heaven sake.

A sky overrun with clouds
Can bring gentle rain
Or torrential flooding

A soldier following orders
Can be the backbone of an army
Or the downfall of a people

A lovers promise
Can be a ray of light
Or darkness itself

The true promise
Resides within our own hearts
With each beat it is renewed

Promises
Are like treasures
They're not meant for those
Who doesn't know how to keep them

The words once spoken,
scattered beyond Mediterranean shorelines,
I can feel them like whispers of the wind
As the sun, the wind, and all the birds carry
Spoken promises in dire need of healing,
And despite my racing thoughts
paralleled to my feet,
telling me to face the other direction,
I still held out my shaking hands,
To put you back together again,
even when my fingers were bleeding

One night
I called you in distress
My hands were not mine
Nor the thoughts nor the mind
My breath was missing
And my room had distorted
And my only comfort
was you
Your voice kept me grounded
And I had to open my mind

And then you said
"I like you more
Than I think I should "
Ignoring my heart
Beating out my chest
You continued to say
"A break is in order
For me and my lover"
And I forbid it
But it stayed in my head
To idea of it all
The idea of you leaving her
for me

But then you forgot
Every word you said
As if it was light
And easy to say
And to forget
But I couldn't do the same

So I'll try something new
But similar to you
I'll tell how I love you
And then move on

I'll make your name
Easy to say
Easy to forget
Words you say like they are nothing more than that
We could've held the stars, yk!
And dance under the gloomy moonlight
We could've fought,
For us, the existence alone.
We could've held on
And not let it slip out,
It wasn't a handful of sand!
We could've simply tried,
Atleast, that's what they've been teaching us!
'Trying never leads to disappointment'
Even a handful of sand would've stayed either...
But...
That's it
We,
We could've...
But!

But we never did!

Time had passed, you started to realize that
We can’t change the past
Present moment **** the future we could have had
You say you’re happy with another
Acting like I’m the one who pushed you out the door
Like I’m the one who killed our present by stepping on your soul
Justifying that I’m the reason that you are gone
Yet, miss me when you are home alone

Baby we both know that I lacked the
words to make you stay
Cause you are the one who chose to go
If my action did not show you how I felt
My words could never change your mind
I care too much to make you stay in a place that might have caused you pain
So I release your love and promises you made.
Sometimes you have to let someone loved or cared for that you let them go because what you had will never fade away.
