part, the first
hauling through the desert

the passing drum band-

the unending rhythm

taste the dust storm

the thump of my feet raw response

each oncoming moment- the last; but yet to come

following the north star

the answer- an end

what was the question

the soldiers on skeleton camels

to what war do i march forward to

where was my solidarity when the band passed

scorched- exhausted death march

the old man always told- foretold

his stories; old as the desert

or the star which scorched the earth

which burned the roots

his tongue was with the soldiers

the verse rode the wind

part, the second

with the clouds; non-presence

written on scrolls

as old as the sun which scorched the earth

the north star just as old-

but the drum band has passed

with the dust we once tasted
please enjoy. the sahara is a long journey and we all need entertainment

In third grade
I joined my school band
I was percussion,
the only one in my school
Lugging around my giant drum kit
I was different
But,
still an essential part of the band

Now, fast forward to seventh grade
I joined my school field hockey team
I was the goalie
The only one on my team
Lugging around my giant bag of gear
I was different
But,
still an essential part of the team

These parallels stick out to me
Clearly, it's a statement

I desperately crave that team
group
sense of belonging

Yet,
at the same time
...
I want that independence
I want to be different
I want my own little niche
...
It's amazing how much poetry
can give you an insight
into yourself

Slave to damnation

I am a slave to the sound of Audioslave;
I am simply here to say they are great!
Chilled out, rocking loud, slam those drums!
******* hit a **** and just dance a little more.

Slide it on down to the lowest decibel possible.
It’s time to rock, so come on now people!
Let all slowly bang our ******* heads!
It’s time to rock!  We are the living dead!

So every single one of you out there in Wonderland;
It’s time to get down with this funky *** band.
I am a slave to damnation;
I am a slave to Audioslave.
I’m a one way, last ever, concert ticket;
The last show on Earth, the end of days.

Speeding down the freeway with the cops behind us;
They cannot keep up and they know we just don’t give a ****!
150 on the speedometer, it’s time to die in flames!
Welcome to your Hell my friend;
Wave goodbye to your broken life, broken heart
And broken early grave.

Slave to audio…Audioslave.

Please tell everyone your name, grade,
And what instrument you play.
We’re just going to go over some basics.
You can have a break in ten minutes.
Band, ten, HUT!
HUT!
Come to set!
Attention!
I said come to set!
Heels together, toes apart.
Check your posture!
Guide to your left!
No, your other left!
Your steps are too big.
No, now your steps are too small.
You have to stay at set for three minutes;
If anyone moves, we start again.
Restart the time!
Restart again!
Get your feet in time, freshmen!
Section leaders, I need to see you.  Now.
Your water break is still ten minutes away.
Drum majors, go get more batteries for the met.
First competition guys, good luck!
I don’t care if it’s late, we need to learn the drill.
Someone go run and turn on the field lights!
You’ll thank me later.
First football game, good luck!
Drumline, did I say you could put your instruments down?
Trumpets, get your horns up!  To the press box!
You’ll get it, don’t give up!
Last competition guys, congrats!
Give it your all and don’t look back!
Guard, don’t **** anybody with your flags.
GUARD!
Last football game, congrats!
Somebody please let the bass drums through!
Everybody give me your plumes!
Do NOT set your uniform on the ground!
I expect all of you back next year.
Thank you for giving me your best.
I apologize for when I was at my worst.
I love you guys.

The Super Heroes of Rock!

There’s a little person named Gem, with a banjo in his hands;
But he’s too drunk to play.
There’s a guy with one arm and he’s slamming the drums
And I think his name is Dave.
Jenny plays the Bass, with a rash on her face
And she’s going to die today.

The lead guitarist (Jimmy) has no legs,
But he always tries his best.
But his lack of fingers and thumbs,
Is starting to become a pain
And the fact I can’t sing!
Well it doesn’t mean a thing,
Because we’re not even getting paid to play.
No we’re not, getting paid to play.

Because we’re the Super Heroes of Rock!
And we came to save the day.
Yeah we’re the Super Heroes of Rock!
And we came to save the day.

When Kurt decided today was the day
And put a bullet hole in place of his face,
They called the Super Heroes of Rock!
To come and save the day.

And when Black Sabbath crashed the plane
And Axl cancelled the show again.
They called the Super Heroes of Rock!
To come and save the day.

The little person, Gem, he used to sing,
But a girl named Lisa broke his banjo string,
So now he simply comes to our shows
And joins us up on the stage.

He used to be the ladies favorite,
But now he’s lost all of his confidence.
Because he hit the bottle hard
And he hasn’t been the same since.

But we’re the Super Heroes of Rock!
And we’ve come to save the day.
We’re the Super Heroes of Rock!
And we’ve come to save the day.

And if there’s nothing else I can say,
I guess we’ll just rock the show our way.
Because we’re the Super Heroes of Rock!
And we came to save the day.

And ladies there’s no need to fight;
Just come and form an orderly line.
Then come and be the bands groupies;
With us back stage.

And the fact that I can’t sing!
Well that doesn’t change a thing.
Because we’re the Super Heroes of Rock!
And we do this voluntarily, anyway.

We jump into empty gigs slots,
When a band’s singer has lost the plot.
We’re the rehab missionaries
And we don’t get paid to play.

Because we’re the Super Heroes of Rock!
And we’ve come to save the day.
Yeah we’re the Super Heroes of Rock!
And we came to save the day.

And if our music isn’t your thing;
Well we already know we stink.
But we’re the Super Heroes of Rock!
And we only came to save the day.

Could you give us back Jimmy’s false legs?
He only wanted to try and crowd surf.
Things are already bad enough for him,
What with the leprosy and he’s just lost his girl
And I think Jenny has died,
I can see Dave’s put a drumstick in his eye.

But we’re the Super Heroes of Rock!
And we’ve come to save the day.
Yeah we’re the Super Heroes of Rock!
And we’ve only come to save the day.

Yeah we’re the Super Heroes of Rock!
And our music will never be stopped.
Because we’re the Super Heroes of Rock!
And we’ve only came to save the day.

The note.
A high one.
Almost a screech.
Top of the range,
Just barely music.
Always reaching for the edge.
Yet another person comes along,
Five notes higher.
Skillfully mastered,
They get recognized.
I tried my best,
But it’s never good enough.
Is this about an instrument? I don't know, but you should reed this poem.
Too **** drunk to play

I fell into a bottle
Four Presidents ago
looking for the hidden song
Just before a show

Once I thought I found it
I was in about half way
When I took the stage I found out
I was far too drunk to play

Every bottle has a song
somewhere deep inside
I haven't found one yet though
but, ****...i know I've tried

Each line upon my weary face
And scar upon my fingers
is the end result of searching for
the song that always lingers

If it isn't in one bottle
in the next it may be there
so for now, i'll just keep searching
for the song that isn't there

there's songs in other places too
too dark for me to go
some find songs inside a needle
those aren't songs I want to know

I come by my songs honestly
my scars show I've looked deep
But, when I'm almost there and see it
That's kinda when I fall asleep

when I'm sober, I can't find them
once I'm drinking, then I hear
The song calling from a bottle
I'm like an alcoholic seer

I know I'll find the right one
And it just may be today
I only hope I find it
Before I'm too **** drunk to play

I only hope I find it
Before I'm too **** drunk to play
