Life Is A State Of Mind
Nasus Dec 2023
Life is a state of mind,
A merry go round of your choosing,
That either brings tears of joy,
Or screams of terror,
Peace,
Or Drama.
One you can never depart,
Until that one concluding breath.
Will you look back on the well trodden path
With recollections of joy,
Or regret?

Space
Nasus Dec 2023
Sometimes the all-consuming intensity gets to me
And I need space
To step back
And reflect
And clear my head
So I can return refreshed
And renewed
And in control of my life once again

Suppressed Anger

Suppressed anger
has a habit
of rearing its ugly head
when you least expect it
and biting you on the ***

Breathe Again
Nasus Nov 2023
Rising above the mire of
Pain
and
Hurt
and
Toxicity,
My mind clears
and I can finally start to
Breathe
Again

I’m Ready
Nasus Nov 2023
I’m ready to release the shackles
That have bound my wings,
And rise like the phoenix
From the fires of hell
To unseen,
Dared to hope for,
Possibilities anew

Courage
Nasus Aug 2023
“I love you”.
Just three little words,
Oft meaningless.
Used to cover up a multitude of sins.
It’s in our actions that truth reveals itself,
In our manner and way of being,
In our openness and honesty.
It takes courage to love,
But even more to tell the truth.

Emotions
Nasus Aug 2023
I didn’t understand emotions,
I thought
They were foreign to me,
Unknown,
Unfeeling,
Unaware.

But now I realise
Inside of me,
All tumbled up in knots,
Lie
Anger,
Sadness,
Loneliness.

It’s the lighter emotions
I don’t recognise,
Joy,
Love,
Happiness.

For there’s always someone
Ready to stab you in the back,
Lie to you to get what they want,
Bring you down,
Kick you,
Till you’re broken,
And bereft.

Regret
Nasus Aug 2023
Ours was a complex relationship,
Full of pride and bitter sweet,
But underneath the fiery rage,
The criticism and put downs,
Were the broken hearts of a
father and daughter,
Who both wanted
Above all,
To love
And
Be loved.

Those Insidious Beasts
Nasus Aug 2023
Those insidious beasts
Surreptitiously winding their tendrils
Through every orifice and vacuum,
Through every artery and vein,
Through every thought and word,
Till those two imposters
Guilt and shame
Are so embedded
One knows not where one begins
And the other ends

Leave the Past in the Past
Nasus Aug 2023
Let go of
The pain
The torment
The anguish
The worry
The times long since past.
Let a new exciting
Chapter unfold
In its own
Unique way,
Embrace change,
Welcome the unknown,
And hope

Love Is The Answer 💗
Nasus Apr 2023
It’s never too late to start,
Every day and every moment,
An opportunity
For a fresh new perspective,
All you need to do is change your thoughts
As thoughts become things.
What is your thought?
Is your thought hindering or helping you?
Is it coming from a place of fear or love?
Love is the ONLY answer
Choose love! 💗

Wild Geese by Mary Oliver
Nasus Feb 2023
"You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting -
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things."
This poem speaks strongly to me - I don’t need to be “good.” I just have to “be.”

Belonging
Nasus Nov 2022
We all long to belong,
To find our community,
Our family,
Our place of safety and refuge.
But feeling different to other people,
An outsider,
Of no fixed abode,
I’m not sure where I belong,
Or who my tribe is.
I feel confused,
Discombobulated,
Wayward feelings and erroneous thoughts
Running around inside my head,
Misleading me down the garden path,
Tripping me up,
Leading me down holes
That are too deep to climb back out of

Destiny
Nasus Nov 2022
As I listen to the sound of the raging sea
relentlessly pounding on the merciful shingle,
Watching the crest’s lip glisten
under the glow of the full moon,
The flashlight from a solitary walker and his dog illuminating
majestic waves climaxing 12 foot high against the sea wall,
Seismic spray scattering far and wide,
I am reminded
Of the power and force of nature
Which will overcome us all
One day

Fire Fire Burning Bright
Nasus Nov 2022
Fire fire burning bright,
Your power and dominion respected,
As you imbibe our offerings of poetry, rhyme,
And ancient storytelling of free men.
Conspiratorial keeper of our secrets,
Mastered by none,
Your red embers and golden flames
Nurture and cajole us
To share our
Deepest
Darkest
Thoughts
And
Desires.

Sins Laid Bare
Nasus Jul 2022
I wonder if I suppress my positivity
And subdue my better nature,
For it is my penance,
My cross to bear,
My guilt exposed,
For sins laid bare
Nasus Jul 2022
They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks,
I’m beginning to agree,
Entrenched in my negative thoughts
And destructive patterns of behaviour,
I seem unable to change...
