Dawn breaks as the sun appears over the horizon, swallowing the darkness of an insatiable night.

A fresh breeze ruffles the hair, and the heart, with a peculiar spell as the sounds of rattling trees settles in.

The stains of tears are replaced by the shine of joy, as the sorrows of night dissolves in the mist of a promising dawn.

A sight of a dew shining on a flower, like a beautiful Pearl, instills something pleasant inside..

As the eyes travel further, they're pleasantly surprised by the bed of flowers; the spread of meadows; the colorful birds.. Chirping.. Flying.. Playing.. Nothing to bind them. Free spirits.
A heart envies them for a while.

And when looking upon the vast sky - the sheer vastness of it, leaves one enthralled.
Upon closing the eyes, one could hear the silent whisper of the clouds, of the trees, carried by the passing winds. A strange sense of belonging settles in. Leaving one calm. Inspired.

Perhaps, the birds have felt it too. One wonders.

A mind then engages into a divine contemplation, as the mystery unfolds.. Feeding on the pleasure of unravelling dreams.
A sheer bliss.

PS: Just another perfect dream of a blessed moment.

There's an angel I wish to bring alive,
On the canvas of your heart,
Through the brush of my mind,
And the colours of my words.

Be prepared to be astounded,
As she's nothing ordinary,
For even the stars above,
Envy her pristine beauty.

To begin with her eyes,
they are the twin moons,
A single look into them,
And you will swoon..

Her smile..
Oh that gracious smile!
That soft glow of moonshine,
On a dark summer's night!

Her veil of silky hair,
Will leave you mesmerized,
As they dance
To the soft blowing breeze..

Her gentle whisper;
Her cheering voice:
A bundle of innocence,
That will bring you joy!

Come, walk with her a mile,
For she's that butterfly,
That will wreck havoc,
With a bunch of crazy smiles!

Hold her hand,
And you'll witness the eternity fade,
Embrace her heart,
And you'll bow to her angelic grace!

It escapes from the creeks
of responsibilities
of ambitions
tired; defeated
covered in the shroud of
grief

It escapes
to never return
to the barren land
of hollow dreams

It escapes
the charades
of wearing masks
of dreary pretence

It escapes -
the innocent child
of wild spirit
that longed
to be free

The dreamy eye lashes of your eyes
When they meet,

The soft wisps of your hair
When they fly,

The quiver of your lips
When you feel shy,

The spell of your smile
When it comes by

Stirs the void in me.

Resurrects the dream.

And my heart,
Then embarks on a flight
Of myriad conjectures
Only to stumble
And fall
In the abyss
Of lustful hope.
.. Yet again.

Knots of fear
Come undone
When a heart
Braves flight
With the wings of faith
To the alleys
Of dreams.

For a while, I ride my life.
I reflect on my thoughts.
I wander into a different world.
I chase stars.

For a while, I own the dream.
I feel the warmth of the Sun.
I meander on the roads.
I feel the spell.

For a while, I chart my destiny.
I engineer my journey.
I flaunder with joy.
I race the winds.

For a while, I live.
On my wheels.
I'd recently been on a road trip to Goa (India) on Bike. It's around 700kms from where I live. And this came out just as I reached home and reflected on my journey. :)

Nothing beats the power, the beauty, and the purity of those two little innocent eyes that stare at you: that which cries but are not sad; that which smiles and puts your corrupted soul to shame. Its mere glimpse has you surrendered; the masks shattered. There's nothing as powerful a mirror as them. There's nothing as divine as them. Try as much as you may, you shall never defeat them, at least not for that brief period of time. It holds you captive, and you would always want to remain so, such is its power of enchantment.
I had written this a few years back on receiving the prompt. The word was 'Mask'.
Hashim ZK Nov 2014
I better not be foolish,
I better not betray,
I am His creation,
That's what they say.

I'll be punished,
I'll not have a say,
I'll burn in hell,
If I not pray.

I rather not be proud,
I rather not be 'me'
For He will not forgive,
If I not kneel.

I should not suppose,
Who am I to oppose?
Dare I use my mind!
Dare I act free!

I am born here to follow
I am born here to breathe.
My labours are for Him.
Dare I ever live!

So, I better not be foolish,
I better not be proud,
I am just a part of herd,
And I should simply follow the crowd.

The sweltering heat
of a burning desire
singes
the memory
of the long forgotten
souls.

The whispers of time
flows like a wind
raging the fire
of remorse.
of hope.

The undulating smoke
of clueless dreams
dissipates
leaving behind
the void
of colossal emptiness.

Flapping wings;
Uncertain destiny;
Frivolous flight;
Head held high.

Dreams galore;
Clouded vision;
Brightest light;
Hope held high.

Strength anew;
Dreaded fights;
Blessed life?
Sword held high.
Hashim ZK Jan 2015
Let me thrive
In the flames of my unrivaled passion,
Lest I perish in the void of remorse.
Let me die in my journey if I must,
For I may die a thousand deaths if I should surrender!
Hashim ZK Aug 2018
I want to lay bare the fire in me
before the spectators
I want to be the wisps of smoke
flying through their faces
unfettered
unfazed
liberating what lies entrapped
forever.

flame of memory
enshrouds the world in darkness
a melted wax drips
I'd written this a few years back. On 28-03-2012 to be precise. This is the only haiku I have attempted so far.

Anyway, I stumbled upon this in my notes, and thought I might as well share it here.

I'll burn my crackers.
Why should I abstain?
Let the animals whimper
I don't care for their pain!

I'll burn my crackers
The pleasure is insane!
Let the world die a little
I don't care the blame!

I'll burn my crackers
You should try the same!
Let your neighbours envy
That's how you rise to fame!

I'll burn my crackers
Don't you dare complain
Let the old bicker
I'll not stop the flame!
This, like my other posts recently, is also something I had written sometime back and wasn't shared on this platform.

Context to people who aren't familiar with the indian festival Deepawali/Diwali: It's a hindu festival where the celebration involves bursting of crackers, which has adverse effects on environment as a consequence.

PS: I wish a very happy and joy filled deepawali to all my friends over here.

Tell me when the night befalls,
Till then, let me shine through this light.
Hashim ZK Apr 2015
She's there
Smiling at me
From across
the bridge of acceptance;

Hiding
Behind the veil of shame;

Subdued
By the burden of uncertainty;

Yet her eyes shimmering
Under the glow
Of her pristine dreams.
She's there.
Still there.

A billion stars
A random night
I lie on the floor
Gazing the sky

A million thoughts
A random dream
I stare at the sky
Caressing the fear

A hundred defeats
A random courage
I ride on the fear
Chasing the star.
This is not my recent work. Actually, none of what I am posting these days are! I am so uninspired of late. :/

Hereafter, I will post all my previous write-ups with a "a page from my diary" tag. :)

Look into my eyes
You will see a raging ocean
Look deeper
And you will know why.

Come close
You will hear my silence rumble
And any closer
You will have nothing to hide.

Somewhere in the vanity of hope,
Lie buried the ashes of dreams..
And, it is in its sphere,
A castle of life is built.

Flows like the waves within;
Stirs like a storm,
Gathers like the raindrops,
And often drowns the forlorn.

Fragile thoughts;
Fractured dream;
Her graceful smile..
And the wounds heal.

A gentle breeze;
A warm sunshine;
A drop of rain;
A wave of joy;
A shine of star;
A friend's shoulder;
A soft whisper;
A glimmering moon;
A lover's kiss;

.. an eternal dream!

Ek sehmi si khwaish dabi rehti hai palko talle,
ek nayaab pankho ki talaash hai shayad usse..
Aksar khamoshi Ke lafzon Mei pucha karti hai,
"Aye dost, itna bata, kis gunaah Ka illzam hai mujhpe?"

---------
A beautiful English translation by fellow poetess Sukeerti:

A scared little wish stays embedded underneath the lashes of my eyes;
Perhaps, it's searching for a pair of flight feathers- rare and precious,
As often, in lyrics enclosed by quietude, this wish questions me-
"O friend of mine, please let me know, what sin am I a convict of?"

I know there are not many people who understand Hindi here, but I thought I'd share it nevertheless.

Is she the flower I seek?
Or the season I'd want to live in..

Is she the star I yearn?
Or the sky where I'd reflect upon..

Is she the light that prevails?
Or the shadow I'd sneak in..

Is she the virtue?
Or the piles of sin I am drenched with..

Perhaps she is but my missing part,
Or maybe.. mere my reflection!
Hashim ZK Aug 2017
Where do you hide what I seek?
I search in your voice, when you speak..
I probe your eyes, the ocean deep..
I lie at the door of your secured heart..
Holding on to that golden key
Of hope.
Is that where your treasures you keep?
Let this man have them enrich.
Let its glimmer shine through your eyes;
And, drip through your face,
And settle on the lips:
the broadening of which brightens
the seeker's day!
Give this man the joy he seeks..

resting by the door
the bittersweet memory
ruffles at every wind
of nonchalance

breathes the nostalgic
ruthlessness
in the canopy of peace
Hashim ZK Jul 2017
My heart stirs.
in fear.
of nostalgia.

of being entrapped
in the raging winds
of happiness.
of sadness.
of fallen hopes.

of putting together
the fragments
of its broken parts, again.

of instilling the belief
that it is all right, again.

of healing, again.

my heart trembles
at every thought
of moments that
once filled with
euphoric charm.
beacuse now, it wrenches
its every corner in endless pain.

my heart skips a beat
everytime there's rain
of memories
as every drop holds
the power
of drowning me
in the ocean of time
again.
Hashim ZK Oct 2014
Nothing to speak;
Nothing to feel;
An empty mind
Nothing to think.

Digging deep
Yet lacking depth;
Pregnant muse
Embracing death.

Idle thoughts;
Piercing dreams;
A river of life
With stagnant streams.

Nothing to believe.
Nothing to share.
A burden of time..
Is all that's there.
Hashim ZK Nov 2014
If my words had no repercussions, I'd have confessed how much you mean to me;

If I wouldn't have been tied by the human flaws, I'd have realised my dream;

If you weren't as close to my heart, I doubt I'd have ever lived;

Now come, my friend, until the time truth overwhelms the stupidity, lets pretend that I am your just another friend who's lost in the labyrinth of courage.
Hashim ZK Oct 2015
I watch her shrivel
In her shell,
Everytime the sun shines:
Perhaps the darkness hides her wounds,
And the battle she fights with time.

I watch her shed
Her wings,
Quite often, while looking upon the sky:
Perhaps she wonders what lies above,
Where even the stars happen to die.

I watch her tie
Her dreams,
Like they are supposed to be,
Perhaps she enjoys the absence of joy,
.... Or the pleasure of making it last.

Ringing sound of silence
whispers
a deluge of nostalgia
uproots
the ground beneath my feet
flies
the unsettling thoughts of abandonment
unravel
the twisted knots of ambition
drown
... in the ringing sound of silence.
I have written something after years. So yea, this could be sketchy, but I am trying to regain my lost flair. :)

Be generous and honest in your critique, if you have any after reading this.
Hashim ZK Dec 2014
I wish I could freeze the time
When he unlocks his heart
And takes me to its unfamiliar parts
Holding my hand
Unveiling the treasures
And forbidden paths
While I stare at his joyful eyes
Speechless
A tear does moisten my heart
While he lays bare his entire soul
The truth unravels on its own:
My soul had stumbled upon its mate
And, when I was walking again,
Gleefully, with my
Soul mate.
We have this weird notion that the term 'Soul mate' is limited in its definition to 'life-partners', which I strongly disagree. The definition of a soul mate to me transcends all the barriers of worldly relationship tags, the gender, and all other imposed discrimination. To me it is the most pure and divine bond that stands-out on its own individualistic values of trust, faith and love. And it can be found in anyone - a friend, a brother, a sister, and as in most cases, also a life partner.

A refreshing wind that you are,
And an abyss of void I;
Yet when we both meet,
An ocean of love drains by.
Hashim ZK Mar 2015
In the arms of infinity
Blooms a flower so tender:
Mesmerizingly flawless-
My heart does surrender.

Embodied with ruthlessness;
Its fragrance a subtle weapon:
Captivating the senses-
My mind lies a prisoner.
Hashim ZK Apr 2015
A flower
Once bloomed
In the desert
of a heart:
Beautiful;
Brave;
And engulfed
In the fragrance of sincerity.

How mere the sight of it
Rendered the dreary eyes
A heap of serenity
As the sorrow vanquished
In the spell of its beauty.

A gentle breeze
Would make it sway
Leaving the spectator
Mesmerized
As it danced to the tune of wind;
Lost in its movements of frivolity.

Its vibrant exuberance
Would fill the space
Wherein a mind lay
Drowned
in its adorned tranquility
Devouring
the peace
... of divinity.

That flower
Once bloomed.

In the desert
Of my heart.
Hashim ZK Jul 2016
the drizzle of sorrow
on a scarred heart
gathers in a series of puddle;
whereupon, the disdainful joy
often jumps, splashing
the drops of melancholy
all over.
Hashim ZK Sep 2017
To watch the waves of time appear roaring towards the shore with the submerged dreams of yesterday;

To watch the dried-up land of solitude moisten with the tears of hope once again;

To watch the sea swallow the glowing sun as the feet sink into the sand, disappearing beneath the grains of illusion;

To revel in the dusk while the atrocious winds of nostalgia soothes the absence of joy;

To eventually let the darkness consume the sheer being that withstood the cruelty of the spell called life.. all this while.
Hashim ZK Oct 2017
A feeling
so atrocious
in its yearning:
it longs to win,
and also to be defeated
at the same time.

— The End —
