Petal
Maia Aug 2019
My love is a flower,
So desperate
To cling to the dirt on her feet-
Breathing the sound of the wind,
Petals reaching
For the ghost of a sun
Long gone,
Sunken under the silhouette of
You-
Are an ocean
I ache to swallow
Afraid I’ll drown-
In your love
Is a drug
Of warmth and light,
It is all I need
In this dark-
Tonight.

Pulse
Maia Jul 2019
I haven’t quite
Decided
Wether these veins that web my heart
Are roots
Or fault lines,
But I’m starting to believe-
That maybe
They can exist
As both.

Edge of my tongue
Maia Jul 2019
If only you could hear,
All these words that I’ve discovered
Written upon the walls of my mind,
Disappearing at the wake of light.
Tell me I’m not alone with creating the best poems at 3am in bed and than waking up to forget it all.

Get through
Maia Jul 2019
Love, don’t be afraid
We’ve all gone places we cannot hide,
Written stories we won’t deny,
But look at us,
Living. Tonight,
Alive.

My queen
Maia Jun 2019
You held me in your arms and whispered,
“Baby, I’ll make you my queen,”
But darling, don’t you get it-
I don’t need your love
To make me something I already am.

Forward
Maia May 2019
If we leave here not knowing
Where life will be going,
Love,
Remember that if all fails
Fall back on the fact
That we are growing.
Always.
Maia May 2019
Was it boredom or curiosity
Clearly the click bait worked,
Look where I am
Staring at the so called “World’s prettiest girls”
Just to see if maybe...

I guess I was too ambitious
Hoping to find myself seen as anything close to
Beautiful. All I saw was
Light skin and blonde hair
Blue eyes that screamed “love me.”

I stare at my mirror
Wonder when I’ll ever see myself,
Enough to be called “pretty.”
Maybe I don’t want that though,
Maybe I just want “enough.”

Future love,
Maia May 2019
Dear love,

Let me in
To the darkness where the sun
Has never once
Kissed the ground,
Trust that I’ll thread carefully,
But understand  that what we have
will grow recklessly.

Let me hold you
When it gets hard,
Carrying the world
Atlas hold steady, I’m right here
By your side.

Let my skin spread across
Your ancient night
Like a blanket of stars
Let me bring back the light.

Let me feel everything
My smoke caressing the air
Our touch fire, igniting each other
Know I’ve burnt hundreds
of matchsticks, trying
To find the one that lights me up.

So let me,
Fall in love
Madly and deeply.
And when it’s over-
I want to be so broken
My pieces will scatter the earth
Like wishes I blow
In search for you,
Love.

Soar
Maia May 2019
The sky has decided to drop me
Into the fate of gravity,
Crashing into you arms
Where you chose,
To let go.
Now I’m free falling
Way past the stars
Into the dark
Where I’m learning to fly
In love with
My lonely

Maia May 2019
You think it doesn’t matter
Maybe I should just shut up and mind my own business
Leave your eyes to stare daggers
And your slippery tongue to burn castles

I’m not apologizing
For fighting back
As you cut apart and dissect
Life into *** and breast,
Measuring beauty on a scale you’ve created out of blood
And buying worth out of bone you pulled from our spines.

How much do we have to give
For our voices to be heard,
Cause you best believe
We’ll give it all we got

No more standing in the corner
Watching sisters fall on their knees
Crying in front bathroom mirrors
Whispering promises you can’t keep.
No. Tonight we are standing
With her.

And your better know that this time
When we scream,
The world will echo back.

Voices
Maia May 2019
I get lost fighting
Against the current
Of these thoughts
Screaming
“Worthless”
And all I can do
Is whisper
“Enough”

Dandelions
Maia May 2019
I plucked a wish from the ground,
Wondering why
It destined to die
Choked in a field of thorns
I guess destiny wanted to play.
So I whispered as I blew
Freeing hope from this reality
“Darling, go
And find my love”

Self care
Maia May 2019
I don’t want
To wait until I love
Myself.
I want to love
Myself
So much
I care.

She deserves more
Maia May 2019
“Why would I
Even like her?”
You asked
Your voice ringing in my ears
Though your words were no more
Than letters on a screen.

**
In case you’re wondering
Your question is still floating
Aimlessly around my mind.
But I owe you
No apology
For being.
Unconventional,
Different,
Fire.
I owe you
No warmth,
Burn.

Searching for your ghost
When we both know
You’ve moved on
Realities away from us

My body
Maia Apr 2019
My body
Is Ocean. Flowing
Back and forth,
Rocked steady by moonlight
Letting itself be pulled
By its current.

It is mass.
Holy
Bread and wine,
Land of mountains and valleys
Rising and falling of the  empires
We’ve lifted into existence.

It is the Air
Breathed
In and out. By life
Flying. We soar
Dandelion wishes and burning fires
Wind taking us everywhere
And nowhere.

My body
Is singing, dancing
Laughing, hurting
Falling, fighting
Loved, loving
It is, human.

It is all things,
And one thing,
But never, is it
Yours

Stop
Maia Apr 2019
Stop
Saying I don’t belong
In your home
Is my home
and your land
Is the earth’s
My mother
Dear sister,
Brother
Why are we fighting
Like fire,
Like water,
Like hate,
Like hurting,
Aren’t we all hurting

Stop
Building walls
Let them down
It’s been so long
Since I’ve seen you
Held you,
Told you,
We are all ours
And that’s all
We’ve got
So we might as well

Stop.

By your side
Maia Apr 2019
Fall in love
With the wind
That holds you steady
Through the night
And flies away
At the first sight of light.
Always is she
Calling,
Singing,
Blowing your name
Like dandelions floating by
Caressing the sky
As you hear her whisper
“I’ll be right here,
By your side.”

Evolve
Maia Apr 2019
On the day that we leave this place,
May the sands of the Sahara shift,
As they turn
Into an ocean of glass,
May the stars up above
Cry streams of light,
Holy be this night
For it is in this darkness
That our life changes,
As the world is growing
Love knows,
that in all our aching
The earth keeps on turning

Icarus
Maia Apr 2019
I love you
Like the day loves the sun.
Darling I know,
I shouldn’t live
Needing you
When you shine
Unaware of my light,
But I do.
So I flew closer
And as you left me
In this night
I burned for you.

Okay
Maia Apr 2019
I promise
One day
The sun will wash away the rain
And the tide will pull away the darkness

Maybe that isn’t today
And maybe,
That’s okay
Because I promise
One day
You will be.

Do the waves
Ever wish to leave
The hold of the moon?

If it could,
Would it
Free it’s spirit
From the pull of a lover
Miles and miles away?

Or would it keep moving,
To the beat of a drum
No one else seems to hear?
Hi, I’m pretty new to this so please comment any tips and suggestions. Thank you!
