"harlequin" poems
. In a costume of conflicting emotion, of crossing diamondic colour, with regal posture in grief, the Harlequin and the King, a display of opposites creating a composite being, that eases her body gently into the waiting water, to float away serene, on her journey to the nether. Midnight blue and emerald green, the regalia of ermine, both ostentatious and humble, robeing the aspects, understated in crowning splendour, the gentleman King bows, and the Harlequin laughs, the bi-polar reaction to the tragedy of misfortune, with a sting in the myth-tale. With the dark hues of mourning, a legend passes on her way, across the streams of time, on a voyage to discover herself, carrying her Harlequin in a purse, holding her King to her breast, owning them both in her heart, the medicine wheel spins, knowing the grapes of wrath yield the wine of spite. The motley speckles of attire, a starry parody of night skies, lighting the decorated funeral barge, gliding along the rivers of space, worn with the mantle of sorrow, and it sails into the sunset, as the Harlequin and King observe, the mandala turns, the bier of the Queen departing, bears their sadness forth. The Harlequin laughs and laughs 'til he cries, his heart grows cold, then withers and dies, whilst the King, statuesque, memoirs his life, lamenting the legend of a Queen, his wife. © Pagan Paul (24/07/18)

Mediaeval Myth Lamenting Legend
Flora and Fauna, the sisters of Season Of Spring and of Summer Allow now our drummer To drum out the beat For the feet of the sisters To glide and to creep Like the encroaching sleep Which may perch on your shoulder if we cannot keep you awake And on the edge of your seat, sir. Now the former, sweet Flora, will finger the flute While the other continues to glide and to slide Like a sequined Venetian harlequin bride; And now Fauna will mimic the movements of bird and of beast As she graces the work of our landscape artiste And all is completely unfeasible Completely lacks reason We guarantee. Presently In the eye of the beholder Sweet Flora seemingly draws from the aether a lyre And with flourishing fingers she plucks from the heavens A song of the seasons, a pagan ode to Pan! Behold! No aid of hoops, no strings The vestal-virgin-harlot sisters sing Of beautiful Persephone And with unseen damselfly wings Ascend from mediocrity All melody forgotten All the drums create cacophony And you will find serenity in chaotic monotony Now let this climaxing crescendo banish all your sorrowing! No more that light; no more that sacred realm Life’s door was dappled gloam; now all is black. A man of wax with saintly, hollow eyes Devoid of sin, devoid of love and light That golden room is lost – you can’t turn back. Now love has lost its lustre - lust lost joy And coy eyes turn to watch the empty man Struck by eternal beauty, and condemned To haunt the broken world of mortal men; And shrilling wind caresses empty hand.

Flora & Fauna

embedded in the most tenebrous corner of my mind, harlequin memories of serendipity, dripping like bittersweet wine, tantalize me, begriming what was once an unsoiled canvas. engulfed in my despondency, I repose homely until my mind's taste-buds savor the saccharine flavors of its own derisive thoughts. aroused to say the least, my mind's libido is now being satisfied. I lie here, welcoming all that my thoughts and epiphanies have to offer. I am unable to disclose what's bestowed to me but that's irrelevant. My mind is here... and open and anticipating the pleasing rush of these thoughts that venture through my head. The pleasure is overwhelming, forcing my chakras open as my ajna awakens from its long slumber. I crave this foreplay and I plead with the universe to make it never-ending but it seems my cries fall upon deaf ears and I'm left open-minded and unfinished.

Harlequin queen she looks like a dream if you count nightmares as pleasant things She comes around at midnight because that's where she reigns she's got memories in her pockets from picking all the brains She'll eat your beating heart with a pulsing cherry on top and when she's finished with the rest of you she'll smack her crimson lips with a pop

Harlequin Queen
I last saw her in Santiago ******* drunkenly in a Sub urban taverna parading conceited pride in a twisted union with that ********  heinous maniacal harlequin each in vainglorious throes of their imagined septic mindfuck Debauch celebration of collaboration of succubus and incubus Some days she is saying Haloa in Hawaii adorned as Sainti Maria the ***** now as Madonna spewing words like a dove acting like a Nun in a Convent the fiendess with two faces hiding her ****** like the ace in lace the malignant serpent crawling in the duality of her neurosis I last saw her in Santiago In a sanctity of the poisoned insecures with exiguous minds consumed with flaming fears she begs acceptance for inclusion ******* for percieved reflected glory from her fathers' jailers The subjugated souls of chai wallah lives on in grandchildren So when Santi Maria flirts from honey to beehive Ready to ***** and part thighs and brain for minor pointing gun Feel sorry for a damaged child devoid of a prime core never made only obeisance to past rulers whose discarded cast-offs she wears Her poems  enchants but its virulent tools she takes in her body I last saw her in Santiago A slaved two-faced pretender who sings like a nightingale In sub urban dives she postrates to friendly pats and gropes Melting creeps and hot tigers begging subs for a heady drink Brilliant yet blindsided to **** on knees as her children will too Copyright@LaurenceA20thSept2018Allrightsreserved.

I Call Her Santiago.....
How long will our bewildered heirs marooned in possessions not theirs puzzle at disposing of these three cunning feignings of hard candy in glass- the striped little pillowlike mock-sweets, the flared end-twists as of transparent paper? No clue will be attached, no trace of the sunny day of their purchase, at a glittering shop a few doors up from Harry's Bar, a disappointing place for all its testaments from Hemingway. The Grand Canal was also aglitter while the lesser canals lay in the shade like snakes, flicking wet tongues and gliding to green rendezvous. The immaculate salesgirl, in her aloof Italian succulence, sized us up, a middle-aged American couple, as unserious shoppers who, still half jet-lagged, would cling to their lire in the face of any enchanted vase or ethereal wineglass that might shatter in the luggage going home. Yet we wanted something, something small .... This? No ... How much is ten thousand? Dizzy, at last we decided. She wrapped the three glass candies, the cheapest items in the shop, with a showy care worthy of crown jewels-tissue, tape, and tissue again sprang up beneath her blood-red fingernails, plus a jack-in-the-box-shaped paper bag adorned with harlequin lozenges, sad though she surely was, on her feet waiting all day for a wild rich Arab, a compulsive Japanese. Grazie, signor ... grazie, signora ... ciao. Nor will our thing-weary heirs decipher the little repair, the reattached triangle of glass from the paper-imitating end-twist, its mending a labor of love in the cellar, by winter light, by the man of the house, mixing transparent epoxy and rigging a clever small clamp as if to keep intact the time that we, alive, had spent in the feathery bed at the Europa e Regina.

I slept with her, my rapacious pen, took me in quiet vengeance in full on conjugation raken and taken, me, her overlording me now, her authorship, so long held in my maledom abeyance, a kept imprisonment, unleashing at last, a tongue lashing~leashing, de-spite my un-desirous craven lying supplications, excuses of innocence and accident, coincidence and conflation, ashes, ashes, denials incinerated, all fall down she wrote/stabbed upon my heartless chest, in the cheap crudités colors of a prisoner’s inking, “user of words mine, all mine” gathered up my innards of loose words, speculative notes & titles yet to be, born and kept hid in password protected silent back labor files, now hers, leaving me sputtering, unable to create, a homeless mute citizen, possession-less, helplessly hoping her hovering harlequin might relent, without any shelter, even a glimmering, a single aleph or bet she celebratory cackled and clawed, professed her reclamation ownership of all my poems predecessors, zola j’accusing that I, ripped from her forcibly, with no granted permission, her womanly touché of my scribing, warning of no more global warming for my unprivileged hands, daren’t try for pretenses of stolen legal guardianship, warning of a new, forced caining inscription, a tattooing of  “thief” upon my 5 knuckled right ****** “plagiarist” boldly inked in back & blue upon my left palm I, predator, she, victim, of my now self-professed, admitted confess, she, my single victim, of a decade long serializing criminal coverup her parting poem a threatening, herein issued in this very verse, damning all who would falsely credit themselves, to suffer shame and an unimaginable curse, this, the newborn eleventh of ten commandments parting, she kissing my lips, even my emptied apertures, with warning bitings, she knew all my my numerous noms de guerre, no dead scrolls caves to hid in, and to be discovered some future day, and if ever marked as copyrighted, ’twas no tunneling escape, the exposed truth to be over-stamped upon all, upon each, in every language, ”copied right from the tongue of a woman!” and she would be wright...

There's spring and there's summer, there's all that's in between no listless skies of anodyne; now nature flaunts and preens What beauty fills the hungry eye 'neath a sky of blue, serene verdant vales soaked in sun, awash in palettes of green There are pastels that awaken and deep shades that passion brews created hues that trickle...sprinkled with 'chartreuse' There's the green of 'asparagus' and that of 'artichokes' Of 'forest', 'ferns' , of 'moss', a brush of different strokes Fragrant plants of 'mint', then 'myrtle' and 'green tea' 'Emerald', 'jade' or 'harlequin' and 'malachites' that be Off creamy shells, just 'pistachio', 'green apples', then of 'pines' It lies too in 'sap' and 'teal', in 'avocados' and tangy 'lime' There's green of the 'mantis', in 'jungle', 'hunters' and 'shamrock' The lithe 'parakeet' fluttering and the lazy sanguine 'croc' In blessed 'basil', ' pickle', in 'pear', 'olives' in 'bottle green' 'Gourds' and 'peas' that farmers grow in cultivars pristine 'Tis there in 'aqua' and 'seaweed', in the ripple of 'sea green' waves In 'turtles', 'sea foam', 'anemone' and a 'tropical glistening lake' From 'laurel green' to an 'army green' , in 'sage' ( a shade of grey ) The color of 'grass' , the murky 'swamp' , hues in array There's 'neon' and an 'Indian green', a 'Persian' one to mystify A 'midnight green' to bright 'fluorescent', oh, for green rainbows in the eye

Fifty shades of Green
Where are our clowns With baggy waist-coats Filled with promises; Clowns wearing Borrowed crowns. One plucks a rose In his white garden, To pin on his lapel; He's a squirter And it shows. One's in the square With large red shoes Putting on a show. But feet don't fit, Soon he'll trip With tongue-in-cheek ego. One has rhine-red ruffs Around her neck, Her GNP Surpasses debt; Her audience finds They too get wet. A three-ringed circus We're wise to regret. One in the Yuan Has a red nose on, A harlequin clown Asleep in red dawn. But tweak his nose And the tent comes down On the Big Top Shows.

Clowns
. *Gaze ye not 'pon the misfortune of the Harlequin, his dead eyes will see nothing of your heart. Pity ye not the clown 'pon his misery bed of Narcissus petals. Emotion has thieved its own fortune, carrying the weight of bitter experience. The furnace, long cold. Gaze
~ *In her sulking-place alone and naked framed in soft sepia —the vintage, harlequin hue at this supposed faded hour she sits looking back on memory she sits and stares into the boudoir mirror at herself at her embonpoint yes, at these ******* —at their landscape how they fall (like Niagara) where they point (like a compass) what they tell (so fondly) when pressed together about their time —their work and play towers on the precipice of judgment both callous and uncharitable if the mirror truly be her reflection her vision is turned around as illusion —a study of tonality and tolerance for one's own flesh the room an invitation or perhaps a lockaway where she even keeps secrets from herself* ~

Avenoir
I sink, my feet slowly becoming part of the earth softened under the heat of my body and a shy sun rolling evenly on horizon. Lazy sun slowly extends his arms stiff from winter reluctance and expanding them into a hug. I see green meadows, still poor with colors, pale spring messengers and Harlequin's face in the glass reflection. Eyes full of ice slowly melting, just as piles of snow hidden in the spring  shadows. I sink deeper into the trap of needs. My hands have become bare spring branches and wait for your smile to bloom touches. Delicate greenish flowers and young leaves will slowly wake up your eyes from the winter gloom, gentle kisses will tickle your throat and nostrils. My hands are empowered, illusive fingers gliding over your breast. I feel the beauty of the Snowdrop and already lured with memories of Violets. You open slowly like a red Tulip. Tulips are too simple for you. I see beauty of Cyclamen bathed in dew of hidden alley and I think only of sweet kisses you give. As I dive in you the Earth is not just a lump of mud in the universe and the water  is not just a matter which makes it blue. While tears running down your cheeks you say they have decided themselves to come and not knowing why. Then, I stand little before you. The boy filled with dreams. Then I stand bigger than the Earth before you as you are more than water.

Harlequin's Spring
With the box lid closed It's dark inside, There are no colours We can't abide. But a golden sliver of light seeps in, To expose the colours there within. We see red when enraged, And scarlet dancers crowd our stage; A red-blooded male brags virility Through rose-coloured glasses of masculinity. Some grow green with envy, Reveal they're yellow in enmity, Are blue when feeling empathy, Turn blue holding out for sympathy, Are tickled pink with comedy, And white as a sheet with tragedy, Or brown-nosed with syncophany. If your yellow-bellied you may run, And green-gilled after Jamaican *** Write purple prose when versifying, Ashen coloured when you're dying. True colours show outside the box, Use grey cells to colour unorthodox. Our true colours are harlequin, That fade to black at our end.

It's a Crayola Life
stand(ing) here alone in the dark like a head of tack pirouetting away to no music - only acrid scruple of this being with and not being with, one is always alone. space occupies the potteries in the garden as a steady arm of light stills in its mouth, a flowering dark. it is only 3 o'clock in the morning and the heat clambers the wall of the vacuously atrabilious moment of just plainly existing. the slender harlequin of moon, like an old lover having its own way with me, a child's yelp coming home — the hermetic air crushing the light, slivering it revealing all the ensconced phantasms too commonplace like a fork in the road that i know, or the wayward metropolitan that teems with a concatenation of roads and gutters bilious with the squall of day. a figure moves entering a warm miasma, receiving the star of aloneness, vacillating between place and placelessness telling this originary of repossessing the moon with a hand in my hand, pressing a question of where have you been all the raging while.

Night's Metonymy
A birthday party, I turn as I lift this velvet curtain unveil this night for you, Sixty circus freaks unravel down the hill like a coloured handkerchief of liquid laughter, all singing the circus theme. The only tears are drawn on and the smiles cut up to the ears, a tap dance in a bathroom, manic movements, a tumble back up the hill. Cherry liquor is juggled, smuggled around the room to a clown sporting harlequin pantaloons. I laugh, drink, talk, like a mime I copy the idea of human. A sudden disconnection of sometimes weirdness envelops, I become an audience member, able only to watch the show, a speechless mime with my face in shadow. A desire to shout into empty biscuit barrel silences I test ringmaster reactions, to get back in I perform in a freak show. But my eyes catch eyes, a timed grasping on a social trapeze, we swing above a net of old ties.

Circus
The cobwebs were hanging in the corners of the room. While I'll confess I was lost within the masquerade, of a dance full with the intent of death; swirling till we sung with how to die alone. In our ballroom, is what I need; Step by step; unassumingly. I'll wait for you there, locked in our rhythm. I'll wait for you there, till time stands still. And on death row, I will continue on with a smile. My mask molding into my face- Like the harlequin, dancing endless steps- slipping down the path of the pagan. I will pray to the god's and anyone listening. To return me to my heavens. To a place, I'll recall; wasn't I just there--- In our ballroom, is what I need; Step by step; unassumingly. I'll wait for you there, locked in our rhythm. I'll wait for you there, till time stands still. And on I dance, until the days were done. And then, there I sat with regrets... Cobwebs hanging over shattered glass. All the things I've never achieved... For all I've done, for all I've been. In dreams until my death, I wonder on.

*        *A tear is shed For those who are blind to the beauty of this world Who can only feast on sarcasm, writhing in irony * *It soon evaporates. Pictures of a future dressed in ribbons and lace, cast off and burned Pictures of the future carrying disdainful dystopia, infamous for invalids Hung to admire in sublime distaste by those that seek knowledge And see the repetitious antiquities of time that come to pass         But others care not for plans and the imminent Those that keep to the light of the gas And carry the past to the present Hoping for trends to try again, reliving what they had never lived Laconic and loquacious in emotions and words Against the gossip, but paradoxically Pushing for the creation of their “ritualistic social Golgotha”. Those who abuse the glory of their munificent, malicious mentality Pathetically unable to procure authentic happiness        A tear is shed. Inside the recesses of the soul where emotions dare not dwell.        It too evaporates. Trapped in fear and the “cliched harlequin speech of suicide” Begging for the masses to cast them out and find each other        A tear is shed. Never seen but felt as it evaporates. "io sol uno." -Dante, Purgatorio There I was, the comic-tragic star of my own motion-picture, bold beneath the springtime Italian sun hung high --a heavenly fixture, illuminating the gold-leaf enframed frescoes in kaleidoscopes of colours, baking dry the pigeon droppings upon the flagstones they smothered, where I, in all my self-serving recreation, posed proudly in a costume of my own creation, an operatic villain clad in a billowy blouse of black, the Campanile Tower like a sentinel behind my back, as movie cameras panned and zoomed, paparazzi photographers capturing me and freezing me, in all my wicked, medieval glory, floating and gloating in the dank aroma of the Venetian seas, *"I'm the shining star! --Look at me, look at me!"* -the super-special star I always knew I'd be, a painted parody, a harlequin of displaced passions for all to laugh at and see, before slipping silently into the ornate basilica, dim and dark as night, thanking Mother Mary (for nothing) as I sparked a votive candle's light, not really sure or caring where my life would lead, just as long as the Azure Queen shed Her Grace on me,      me,              me, ...until I fell and fell to the mockery of a home I made in Hell, hard and forever and fast, the only fool left alone in my solo cast, adrift with no direction, ****** and lost, me and my frivolous theatre, squandered an an extravagant cost. _____________ "io sol uno" means, "I, myself, alone." Something Like Pulp Fiction
For those among us who lived by the rules, Lived frugal lives of pubis-scratching desperation; For those who sustained a zombie-like state for 30 or 40 years, For these few, our lucky few— We bequeath an interactive Life-Alert emergency dogtag, Or a dog, a colossal beast of a pet, A humongus Harlequin Dane dog to feed, For that matter, why not buy a few new cars before you die? Your home mortgage is dead and buried. We gave you senior-citizen rates for water, gas & electricity— “The Big 3,” as they are known in certain Gasoline Alley-retro Neighborhoods among us, Our parishes. Our boroughs. All this and more, had you lived small, Had you played by the rules for Smurfs & Serfs. We leave you the chance to treat your grandkids Like Santa’s A-List clientele, “Good ‘ol Grampa,” they’ll recollect fondly, “Sweet Grammy Strunzo,” they will sigh. What more could you want in retirement? You’ve enabled another generation of deadbeat grandparents, And now you’re next in line for the ice floe, To be taken away while still alive, Still hunched over and wheezing, On a midnight sleigh ride, Your son, pulling the proverbial Eskimo sled, Down to some random Arctic shore, Placing you gently on the ice floe. Your son; your boy-- A true chip off the igloo, so to speak.

Exhaustion
your symptoms are mine. we attach dead cells to living gods, you and i. Golgotha spawn, writhe in leather trousers to harlequin the marrow of our dire pipes ! to leap and jeer in tandem that's how love does the impossible with your mundane. we are the abattoir of our stoic cow your symptoms are mine. i see how you might think me mad; you not i. but this is the dream fleck of your unkissed a sweltering bloat of frozen hope flogging the wolf in a gleam of campfire exodus and dust. your nexus is the heart of the most free, a slim gorge of Krakens yawning fresh hell and fjords of unconquerable silence. yours is the tomb I am used too. where we resurrect we die laughing.

Flogging the Wolf in a Gleam
Moths—they are nearly all comprised of the same tender characteristics: empty colors that've somehow been ****** away like the nectar they digest, fuzzy abdomens that crumble within the softest pinch, and powder encrusted wingspans that fray with countless beatings from the wind. I have come to recognize that there are people like Her who dwindle within themselves among all of us, unheard; enthralled by color that doesn't exist to the naked eye, but rather to an imaginative mind and a battered soul. She is The Moth Girl and she, too is the epitome of simpler things. With Her fair skin and enchanting, grey eyes that **** you in with a single glance; lips so chapped and brittle that they're nearly as drained of pigment as the rest of her. I've decided that She is the reason oblivion hasn't doomed us all and obliterated our world to dust. I've imagined Her as oblivion itself, annihilating other galaxies and collecting the discolored soot from each explosion to sift it over the wings of every moth that has ever been criticized. With this, I have concluded that every moth must be a victim. ⠀ But, if given the chance, would they transfigure? ⠀ I've undergone the thrill of witnessing these moths revolutionize into harlequin humming birds that thrive at Her will. Wings that were once littered with dust are now far too rapid and swift for manifestation. The Moth Girl — She remains a flower of a woman, though now She is sprouting with petals that burst with color; filled with nectar sweeter than She. They are all rich with vibrancy. ⠀ With it, they have concluded that it's not much different being evocative. ⠀ After everything, I have decided that they were blooming with color all along, and it was the rest of us that simply couldn't see it.
