A fawn - limbs uncertain
Innocence of mind
A mind so trusting
A mind so pure
A mind so naive
Would it endure?

Danger lurks, creeps under
Fawn senses it
And returns on its own
Into safety.

So naive, so naive
With fear it has been borne
Yet it trusts it's own

When the armor falls
The swords strike
The one you thought
would protect you
Is the one
You seek protection from.

Give me your affection,
I'll give you love and protection.
I've built walls in front of me for decades,
Protected my mind for centuries,
And all it does is destroy me.

Nobody get's through,
Nobody really knows,
I'm all alone.

I may feel safe, but I don't feel happy.
Just about this persona I put on to disguise the real truths that make me vulnerable. Getting hurt can do that to you because you get too scared to be open again. Probably many of you relate.

how does this work
you get me as a job
did you have someone else
you know
before me
how did that work out

protection, protecting me
is that what you do
protect me from myself
well that is a challenge
I guess
that is a full time gig

how do we do this
not sure
do I need to ask
the question
is this a one way thing
or will I know, feel your voice

A few drivers,
mid-summer afternoon

lean against the divider,
paint peeling

some perch on it lightly---
indulge in hot group-talk;

the waltzing-shadow
of a banyan tree
opposite side of the
auto-rickshaw stand---

a street-art, delicate, dark-hued;

the phantom arms
hug
the disparate crew
in a tight family-embrace,
its breath tousling their hair

and it---
protects them from
the Mumbai heat!

This tuesday April 25th in the year of the lord 2017
being in a good, good mood & wishing to send love
& solidarity to all innocent living beings upon this
fragile lonesome earth I hereby declare my complete
& undying love for the lowly but almost beyond magnificent
Praying Mantis,

that sweet  & oh so delicate creature,
that green being which rests so tranquil upon twig & branch
legs as hands, as in prayer, as pleading, attentive & so, so
quiet,

All Power to the small green creatures & all recognition of
their undeniable right to walk this earth in peace & joy as
any of us oh so arrogant two-legged blundering creatures
supposedly made in god's image,

I have seen god in the form of the Mantis, & sure enough
its beauty & light is beyond magnificent.

Beam that love now.
who does not like the feeling
that we are all protected
by our guardian angels

however

as the ancient Greeks
    and after them
Benjamin Franklin & others
maintained

God helps those
who help themselves
