The lighting of streets' corners -
Even those corners that hitherto were dark and unwelcoming.
As the sunset bleeds
on the city's disappearing silhouette.

The shimmering traffic;
The blares of multiple cars as they try to rush home.
As windows smile brightly to passersby.
The return of Santa Claus!

The holiday seasons,
Winter to the snow laden,
Harmattan to the arid lands.
Chilly on all sides.

The warmth of the fireplace,
The joy of the days to come.
The jingles of merry bells.
The bright lights of Christmas trees.

A reminder that all of humanity can still be happy.
That there is still hope.
That we can share in each other's joy.
And always be there for each other.
Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New year...

A closed door is a simple premise
and you should know
That when I do this I'm not being rude
I just need my room to be empty.
If you do decide to knock
Please have something more poignant
Than seeking reassurance that I like you
Or to ask me if I want food
I know that I forget sometimes
And I'm six foot two of bones
Right now I just want to be alone
I'm not swinging from a rope in here
I have rope yes, but no rafters
So respect the distance, act as
if the door doesn't open.
I'm not unhappy, my opus
demands solitude, my beating chest
Is uncomfortable with guests.
Your intentions an unwanted anchor
sinking the sofa I'm sailing
to nowhere special
in my own good time.
I'm not being crude,
But I swear I might be ****
******* to pirate ****
or watching Pokemon
These are things I do
and I don't need you for them.
If you must come in, don't hover
like a beast without thumbs,
at the edge of my awareness,
I can hear your footsteps wanting
to talk, please just keep walking.
I mean I DO like you,
probably,
but understand that I don't need
to say goodbye and hello,
to stand at the door and watch you go,
The demands for connection
undermine my withdrawal.
I don't need help,
to be dragged with the herd
I'm an introvert and I like,
unobserved, quietly judging you
without needing to actually be at the party.
Contrary evidence might suggest
That you're welcome
Because I invited you here
Or promised you dinner,
you can stand to be one meal thinner
Because the door is closed;
I'll see you when I come out
And I'll come out when I'm ready
The Christmas season
Is the reason
For everyone is in a state of elation
Upon this special occasion
Filled with gifts and great cheer
It is once again that time of the year
Sitting near the yuletide log
Sipping on some good ol' egg nog

I’m not sending festive wishes.
Well I have, but that’s not the point.
What good is being good at Christmas
And the New Year,
Only to be a *******
The rest of the time?

What use is a holiday peace
When your working day
Is spent killing…?

No
What I wish for you
Is Peace and Happiness all Year,
Every Year.
I wish for Peace and Prosperity
Set in stone for ever –
Nobody starving
No-one excluded
From Society’s camp-fire.

We need a Human Race
United
As One,
Respecting All
As Equals.

We need this all the time,
Not just in “The Season of Good Cheer”.
We need a Better Way
Forever.
Amen.

Something I've thought many times!

All is still.
No more “Chase” or “Eggheads” from Tuesday.
Everything is shutting down.
The Winter Break is soon upon us.
Our “Festive Season” it is called.

Even Winter is having a rest this year.
Sixty Fahrenheit outside now.
I feel like hibernating ‘til the Spring.
Yet some brave blossoms think the Winter over
Already!
Foolhardy flowers indeed.

Our services are stumbling to a stop
Like a long Bank Holiday.
Sports facilities are shutting their doors.
Cafes shutting soon.

If only this stillness could pervade
Those warring factions
Throughout the world,
All through the year.

Peace to All Men
We say.
Amen to That.

"Chase" and "Eggheads" are amongst my regular TV programmes: all stopping for Christmas and New Year....

Shop lights sparkle, dance
Making pretty patterns
in the winter twilight
Small change in a plastic cup,
Never shaken, just held,
By cracked nail adorned fingers
***** and blue from cold
Unnoticed a body perched
Silently upon a ***** blue
Carefully folded sleeping bag
Old worn grey coat
Wrapped tightly round
Thin drooped shoulders
Dull spark less eyes
Look out at a world
That rushes on by
Carrying boxes, paper bags
Of material purchases
To make the warm giggle
With delight come Christmas morn
Too busy, too fast to see
The plastic cup held steady
Enough for a cup of tea is all
That’s ever needed,
To reach Christmas morn

Buzzing through the past-sunset canyon
looks like a reflective Christmas,
but it's the tail end of march;
how can you celebrate
such religion so long
as there are tragedies striking
and no one trying
to heal at least what is worth it?

They float and flit from nether to hither
Thither and thereabout they float
Watching our attempts to cope.

They are the ruling emotions
The guiding wise mind
Guide ropes of the ocean

The ocean of life.

Today feels like November.
Not quite the festive November, however the post exams should-be-happiness may be causing a
small sense of internal gladness,
but the November which
foreshadows-  Time's eerie hourglass is long and hangs in the gloom
and you wonder
where the light is.
