Our beautiful disaster
Our greatest master piece
In which the world could see
That we weren't ment to be
Vocabulary so harsh
It cut deep into the seams
Take one more hit
One more mental break
Which only leaves heartache

not all earthquakes
leave you shaken;
yet show you
-you had been standing still all your life.

(you were my earth quake, you shook life into me,and for that,i thank you. )

The needle
The pen
providing fine points
for disasters end
Do you also find this interesting how both the pen and the needle can be both?

It had fallen and all was awash with ash
Burning what was once valued cash
I held on to it, a motion unknown I'd slash,
No time for pity food would be stashed.

I wore my mask in this bleak dead time
All was chaos but I'm no longer in my prime
Survival was an uphill struggle at times a climb.
If they were near the bells would chime.

Could I depend on others, eyes never seen
Masks hiding truths behind shaded screens,
We were survivors a group no more than eighteen
The stupid thing I miss the taste of caffeine.

Random I know but Jesus that taste,
But that was a different time now all erased.
Gone with the ash, now humanity unplaced
I wear this mask, a sign of humanity disgraced.

Don't you ever threaten me
with a good time.
I'll show you I'm the favored horse
4 seconds from the finish line.
Let's see how long it takes me
to upend my life.
     It's been a fun night
but I am just about to freeze inside.

It's the Fall
          and the way years go
Or it's me; just me
hanging promises from ropes
from this living room ceiling.
          in the dark
searching eyes half-closed around me.

I'm just M-80 careless. Short fuse
          about to blow
all these hopes, all these plans
across this carpet, out these windows.

Small man of stained glass
ribbon feet, slashed hands.
Favored horse on toxic lawn,
grazing glue shop grass.

Fall of 2012.
Cold wind, early snow
blowing in from the North
and getting deep and I know
I'm getting buried here.
I'll never see the Sun again.
And I have made my icy bed,
so let me sleep a hundred years.

Don't you ever threaten me
with a good time.
I'll show you I'm the favored horse
4 seconds from the finish line.
The winds have started howling
and the waterline's high,
but I've made my bed on bags of sand
so let me wash out at low tide.

We have caked our wounds with love
And hidden our pain with laughter.
It's the way we cope with tragic disaster.

Those like David McWilliams tried to make us see the light,
but our politicians were quick to tell us everything was all right
It’s grand they said; sure our economy is booming,
though now it appears they knew disaster was looming
It seems the easy credit and ridiculous property prices,
left the banks owing billions, facing a financial crisis
and one night our politicians agreed the bank guarantee,
borrowing billions from Europe, selling our sovereignty.

The billions owed by the banks were to be paid by you and me,
which meant we all faced years of austerity
The money disappeared almost as quickly as Fianna Fail,
we were at the mercy of the Troika, Angela Merkel and all.
We owed billions in the form of a promissory note,
with billions to be paid each year, by rote
The banks and the developers washed their hands of it all,
some even representing us now in the Dail!

Yes the banks and bond holders who were mostly to blame,
did not lose a penny, they knew how to play the game
But for us there’s no help, it’s an absolute shame,
and the politicians reasoning sounds completely lame
We had our politicians and the business world to thank,
but they laughed all the way to the nearest offshore bank
Swiftly followed by developers and entrepreneurs,
all this country got from them was a collective Up Yours!

Twenty-seven pennies drop
One for every week we spent holding on to silent summer nights
To wishes made on cigarette ash
Your name catches in my throat
As you breathe those four words:
It all spells disaster

With your fingers embedded in my veins
**** me until I no longer hate myself
Make me *** to a revelation
Urges and surges, that pain in my chest
It offers me quick release, but I deny myself yet again
Purging my old ways
I shake, I scream
A mirror broken in child's play offers the only explanation
My head is heavy, but still I'll hold yours steady

July Twenty Fourth, Nineteen Fifteen
The river was murky, The weather was seen

The steamer Eastland, firm on her bow,
loaded with coal, port side and sound

A captain, that's ***** and stout in his manner
stands on his bridge with an arrogant cantor

Mooring lines set, stern to the bow
Gangplanks are steady, awaiting a crowd

Employees of Western dressed to their nines,
a picnic awaits, everything's fine

Families with smiles and tickets in hand
looks up in wonder, the Eastland she stands

Boarding commences and loaded up full
Twenty Five Hundred, no more to call

Port side list, a lean to the river
Ballast is leveled, some felt the shiver

Worries amount to settling fears,
a starboard list and beckoning tears

Back to the port, no coming back
tipped on her side, everything's black

Panic in fever, screams are abound
echoes in motion, no silence no sound

The river's chaotic with bodies afloat
Kenosha stands ready and rescues the most

Eight forty four lost their lives
In the armory they lay and Chicago cries

The Eastland still rests in our hearts and our mind
Not a second or hour can turn back the time
Yesterday was the hundred anniversary of the Eastland Disaster on the Chicago River.. 844 lost their lives while the ship was still partially moored to the pier...I went to the site yesterday
